NFL may expand replay to personal fouls, and more

I don't mind the idea because they come under the challenges umbrella. I'm getting frustrated enough with the current level of stoppages, and don't particularly want any more.

Great news to all Season Ticket holders...... The Owners voted to prohibit teams from charging for playoff tickets before a playoff spot is even clinched. In the past, you have to pay for them and only got a refund if the team missed the playoffs. Now Season Ticket holders won't have to pay for games that may not happen until it is indeed going to happen.

Daniel Kaplan of Sports Business Journal reports that owners voted today to prohibit teams from charging in advance for playoff tickets. Fans now cannot be billed for playoff tickets until a team is sure that it will play a playoff game at home. In the past, some teams had charged fans for tickets to playoff games that they ended up not actually hosting, and then either refunded the money or credited the money to the next year’s season tickets.

They added a 14th rule change. You can only fingeroll a ball thru the goalposts now. Dunking has been banned.

Rule#11- Did the clock actually stop on a QB sack? I don't remember that.

I'm behind rules 2,3,6,11? and 13. The rest? Nah!!

Rules 8&9 have already passed.

one of the bylaws I hope passes is the game day roster increase from 46 to 49

I thought the no dunking was just more of the No Fun League, but then someone reminded me that Jimmy Graham broke the goalpost doing it.  The writing was on the wall when that happened, and I understand why they did it now.

Didn't know finger rolling as still allowed, so really this is a non issue.  They don't want guys hanging breaking the equipment.

Dunking Banned... no problem for Jimmy Graham who vows to be the most penalized player in the league this season.

“I guess I’ll have to lead the NFL in penalties next year!” Graham said on Twitter after the NFL passed a rule banning the goal post dunk.  Graham’s tweet was accompanied by an image of Graham dunking over an official.

Even if the rule is in place because Graham broke the goal posts, you still don't have to ban dunking to eliminate that problem. Why not just ban hanging from the goal post?  That's different from simply trying to dunk.

I have to admit, make all the "No Fun League" jokes you want but this is one rule I'm in favor of. I'm all for celebrating and players celebrating a TD. Though sometimes it is just unnecessary, as is dunking the ball. Never been a fan of it. Though I would like to see the NFL in return allow some leeway in celebrating so they can celebrate but just not dunk the ball.

Saints probably aren't too happy he said it. Saints probably thinking, Ebron, Amaro, ASJ can all catch the ball from Brees on a cheaper rate long term, plus they aren't "me, me, me" players(Graham by doing this is making it all about him and not the team). If Brees made Graham the TE he is, then Brees can do wonders with more talented TEs like Ebron, Amaro or any TE quite frankly.

I like cheap shots in contact sports and dirty hits to be honest, it adds that niggle to the game and rivalry between players and teams and fans that makes it special. Like when jack tatum would blindside a receiver who hadn't even caught the ball yet or in ice hockey when that goon from the stars who's actually pretty talented will board you and then start a fist fight.

Death of this thread lol........ League voted NO to allowing coaches to challenge any call on the field.

But the owners voted down a proposal brought forward by Patriots coach Bill Belichick to allow coaches to challenge any call they want. Belichick argued that if there’s an indisputable replay angle that shows a call was clearly wrong, and if a coach wants to use one of his challenges to get that call right, he should be allowed to do so. But the owners have decided to continue limiting replay only to certain clearly defined plays.

Update on Rule Changes, per PFT:

1. Move the kickoff to the 40-yard line. FAILED

2. Expand instant replay to include personal foul penalties. FAILED

3. Eliminate overtime in the preseason. TABLED

4. Extend the uprights to make them five feet taller. PASSED

5. Move the line of scrimmage for one-point extra point kicks to the defensive team’s 25-yard line. Two-point conversion attempts would still be snapped from the 2-yard line. TABLED. (League will experiment with longer extra points in the preseason.)

6. Put six cameras on all boundary lines — sideline, goal line, end line, to guarantee coverage for replay reviews. TABLED

7. Permit a coach to challenge any official’s decision, except scoring plays which are automatically reviewed. FAILED

8. Protect players from getting the sides of their legs rolled up on — the rule already says a blocker can’t hit an opponent in the back of the legs, this proposal will add “or side” to the rule. PASSED

9. Allow the referee to consult with members of the NFL officiating department during replay reviews. The referee would be able to speak with the command center in New York to help in reviewing a play. PASSED

10. Re-organize the rules about what can be reviewed and what cannot be reviewed, including making the recovery of a loose ball in the field of play reviewable. (This is referred to as the NaVorro Bowman rule, after a controversial call in the NFC Championship Game.) PASSED

11. Don’t stop the clock on a sack. PASSED

12. Modify pass interference so that it can be called within one yard of the line of scrimmage. TABLED

13. Enforce defensive fouls behind the line of scrimmage from the previous spot, rather than from the end of the run or from the spot of the foul. PASSED

Bylaw proposals:

1. Raise the number of active players on game day from 46 to 49 for regular-season games played on a day other than Sunday or Monday, excluding Week One.TABLED

2. Raise the practice squad limit from eight players to 10 players. TABLED

3. Permit clubs to trade players prior to the start of the league year. TABLED

4. Eliminate the cut-down to 75 players during training camp and instead just have one cut-down from 90 players to 53 players. FAILED

5. Permit more than one player to return to the active list from injured reserve so that any player on injured reserve could return after six weeks. FAILED

6. Permit each club to time and test up to 10 draft-eligible players at its facility, and allow any club that wishes to attend timing and testing at another team’s facility.TABLED

7. Adjust the time of the roster reduction from 53 after the fourth preseason game from 6 p.m. Eastern to 4 p.m. Eastern. All teams would have to have their list of final cuts in by 4 p.m. PASSED

Resolution proposal:

1. Permit a home team with a retractable roof to open or close its roof at halftime, instead of having to determine at the start of the game whether it is open or closed. TABLED

Jeff Fisher had an interesting response to the criticism of no dunking allowed in the NFL.

"If you want to see a dunk, watch basketball".

Fisher has a good point but it's interesting because this was his response to a fan who was spewing "No Fun League" and yelling at him at an airport.
