Reading about the Cowboys' offseason miseries, I've come across a few statements mentioning Demarcus Ware is a "future Hall of Famer," and that the 'Boys are sorry to see him go.

So my question is, why is he considered a future Hall of Famer?

I'm not saying he's bad or not worthy. I'm saying I'm almost completely ignorant on the subject of Demarcus Ware's career. I know he's a sackmaster, and I might recall that he's led the league in sacks a couple times. Did he break the sack record? I think he came close....right? I could look up stats but I don't want to. It's not like I care about the Cowboys or anything.

So please, enlighten me as to why Demarcus Ware is considered a "future Hall of Famer."

The question regarding the hall of fame is whether the history of football can be written without you or not. It is close, maybe if Ware has success in Denver and leads them to a Super Bowl that would put him over the edge although I hope he doesn't do that lol

Right now, I don't think so. As mentioned by someone else, has he elevated the play of his team?? To me, that answer is a no. The Cowboys haven't really done so well, even with Ware on the team. Of course, if he adds a super bowl or two to his resume (very possible with the Broncos), then he should be in the HOF, provided that he continues to notch sacks.

demarcus ware > suggs

If he were playing for us, he might have been even more of a beast. the eye test tells me along with his stats, yes he is a hall of fame player and also like suggs a great run stopper but people only care about sacks

so i did read a little bit about him, and he does seem truly beastly, but his team seems to hold down his status most of all. i guess that's why i never noticed how great a player he really is.

take, for instance, Ed Reed. before we won the super bowl last year, Reed was always talked about as a future hall of famer. i would think that his impact was obvious and league-wide revered. sure Reed was on a some bad ravens teams, but he obviously won games for us.

maybe it's the nature of the position. at D-end, you mostly rush the QB with very few sacks per attempt. sacks are sexy sure, but linemen are grunts for the most part.

I won't pretend like I watch every Cowboys game, but I've watched more than my fair share, but Ware is not a great run stopper like Suggs.  Ware continually blows holding the edge to get after the QB.  Ware would be chastised here in Baltimore if he played like he did in Dallas.

Suggs > Ware... I think Ware could get to the HOF, but right now he's no lock to be a 1st ballot HOFer.

Ware has some more work to do, IMO.  He's basically known for rushing the passer, and in an era where getting sacks is easier he's a long way down on the list.  I don't think he should be in before Kevin Greene, for instance.

6-7 players make it every year, so make it easy on yourself and assume every draft class retires all at the same time. Would Demarcus Ware be a top-6 draft pick in his own draft class? Then odds are he'll be in the Hall of Fame.

Agreed. Both of them in their primes I think Suggs is the better overall player. Ware the better pass rusher. Although Suggs has pretty much always played on better defenses

Suggs and Ware are different types of players.

Pass Rushing: Advantage Ware

Run Stopping: Advantage Suggs by a good mile

Coverage: Ware(but most wouldn't know that.. Hard to tell).

Athletic Ability?: Ware.

Ware vs Suggs at their very best? Suggs, more well rounded and he is a better run defender. Neither go into coverage all too much. He won DPOY. Ware has none. Suggs is a better overall player but Ware is flashier

Both are hall of famers though

Do people think Suggs is a future HOF? He's got some nice accolades but I think he's borderline.

I think he needs a couple more productive years, but I do think he's a future HOF

Yeah he is

Suggs has been better though, but Ware is no slouch.

Says nobody else in the league.

It speaks volumes to me that only Sami and NFLfan123 think Ware is a great run defender. Lol

I think Ware can be considered for the HOF if he has a few more productive years and some playoff success, but right now, I say no.

Yeah you have no idea what you're talking about. Watch the tape.

He proved he was good against the run when he switched to a 4-3 DE and was stout against the run last season.

To further prove my point Ware is a good run defender, he was the third best run stopping 4-3 DE in the NFL last season in terms of run stop %

still, "Defense" is not something you'd associate with the Cowboys this era. Ware is probably better than most at run defense as well, as should anybody with great athleticism and smarts, but I'm sure it's too easy to overlook that part of his game.

Based on the Fact that Kevin Greene was a sack master and good linebacker too and hasn't made the HOF yet. Leads to me think Ware would be judged in a similar way. Nice stats. A few double digit win teams but team and him never performed af their best in the playoffs.
