Steve Smith is now a Baltimore Raven!  Awesome, except for one thing.  We already have Torrey Smith, and Daryl Smith, and Jimmy Smith.  Time to hash out a nickname for Steve Smith if he doesn't already have one.  From what I can tell, they just call him Smitty in Carolina...which is lame.

My vote is for Venom.  Per Wikipedia, Venom's powers and abilities (with my comments) include: "greatly enhances physical attributes of current host" (strengthens our team!), "Superhuman strength" (no doubt Steve Smith is strong), "ability of the Symbiote to fight and defend itself when either the host or it is in danger" (we know Smith is a fighter, ahem Ken Lucas), "shapeshifting" (nice!), "invisibility" (Smith doesn't have over a 800 receptions because he is easy to find), "can expand size" (good for catching those high throws from Joe), "also exhibits telepathic abilities, primarily when it needs to communicate with its host" (really good for audibles), "capable of producing webbing similar to Spider-man's" (and you thought Smith had good hands...it's his webbing!)  And the list goes on and on.

The downside, apparently Venom is vulnerable to FIRE (keep him away from our game tunnel / no pryo works at game intro please!) and SONIC WAVES (uh oh, crowd noise will be a problem for him in the dome games this year...Houston, Indy & New Orleans).

Any takers?

Haha so I guess I brushed up on comics lore for nothing!

"Smitty" sounds weak to me.  Doesn't fit Steve Smith at all.

His nickname is Ice Up Son?  What's that all about?....

Oh nevermind, it was that shot at Talib.  I thought it was just a saying, not a nickname.

Isn't Agent 89 his nickname?

Yea, it's Agent 89 or just 8-9.

Steve still hasn't had a nickname that stuck yet. He's been called "The Knockout", "Man", etc. But all the way up through the playoffs - still nothing fit.

I'm cosidering "The Smithsonian" because he takes them to school every game. And (Ice up son) would be a great sound from 70,000 Ravens Fans after every catch he makes.

He's not a kid anymore, let's leave it at Steve Smith. No nicknames please, they're silly. Especially the forced ones.

Well, Steve is actually his nickname. His full name is Stevonne Latrall "Steve" Smith (wiki).

Dude is a 13 year veteran, don't think he's looking for a new nick name.

In reading the good bye posts on the panthers boards it seemed that most called him, oddly enough, either Smitty or Steve.

I've never understood this obsession with nicknames. "Steve" works for me.
