[News] Ravens Sign WR Steve Smith

306 posts in this topic

The Browns have more than enough cap room to match any front loaded deal. The key is not to front load the offer but to make most of the guaranteed money come out next year (and the following year) when the Browns will have to try and resign Joe Haden, Phil Taylor, Jordan Cameron and then Josh Gordon

The game changer for Mack may come down to our penchant for going to the Playoffs regularly! Let's hope!

BTW that is one bully av, Worm! :banana1:

Ozzie didn't plan on Pitta getting hurt when he got rid off Boldin and his 6 million salary. No way we sign Canty and Domerville if we kept Boldin. Can't have it all.

you guys realize players improve right we dont have to spend all this money for mack Gino only had one full season as starter. he can get better and be a decent center. give him a chance

To me I don't know if Ozzie will do this but in the Draft when we pick get a Mike Evans/Ebron then move up and get a trade to get another 1st round pick later in the draft it might cost some draft picks and get Calvin Pryor then it would be a good draft to me just my opinion.

OMG, that's hilarious!!!

Love how Smith will just go out and fight for the ball instead of laying in the turf whining for an interference call (umm...Eric Decker anyone?)

Nothing but love from Panther's fans who really know him, that's awesome.

Soooo excited by today's news!     :229031_cheer:

How'd you work that out, I hate the other AFC North teams as everyone else but Alex Mack is one of the best centres in the league and that's probably our weakest spot on offence.  The Franchise would be MUCH better if he was here.

Sure... if you're running a franchise with monopoly money and have no concept of what it costs to bring somebody here.

Just more typical fan overreaction. Got a bad center? Throw a ton of money at the best one and hope it sticks.

That's why Ozzie is Ozzie and fans are fans.

This just out on API.... Joe Flacco, Ray Rice, Marshall Yanda, Eugene Monroe, Kelechi Osemele and Dennis Pitta have changed their last names to Smith. Rumor has it they want the ball to always be in "Smith's" hands. That way the defense will never know which Smith's hands the ball will be in....

Really Steve smith is good but ancient Nicks , Edelman would have been better younger if Steve smith really is going to help us why on earth didnt we just try more for Boldin stay in Baltimore I don't understand why should we happy about this all this says to me is that ravens admit they made a mistake on boldin nothing new there signing Jacoby way more exciting than this news.

There was no salary space last year, so even the relative salaries don't matter. We could afford Steve Smith now, so why not? He can mentor our younger WRs such as Marlon Brown and Aaron Mellette (plus maybe a drafted rookie) and he can play. From what I understand of what has been shared on this site, Ravens are aware all along that Q was a huge loss, but they just could not keep him for the money they had to offer. What would you have them do? Stop crying over spilled milk and move on. We have a season ahead of us.

Remember when we were the Baltimore Lewis's? and we won the super bowl in 2000, now we are the Baltimore Smiths, time to repeat that in 2014

nevermind you guys are right if a player struggles their first season as started they should be deemed unplayable and should be on the bench.

How come I'm seeing different numbers with Smitty's contract, here it says 11, Ian Rapopport is saying 12 and another source says 10.5. I'm confused

I live in Carolina, but was born a Raised in Baltimore. Smith is a good Wr. He had absolutely no help, besides and old TE by the name of Greg Olsen. He will have a ton of help here. My Question is, how do we fill the rest of our holes now? FS, CB, C, RT, TE, and we still need another WR, because Smith may only play 1 or 2 more years due to his age. If we don't draft a WR out of this Class, we are Insane! We can't have much money left now, and we still have to sign Draft picks. We can thank Haloti Ngata chance I'll take a few million less for the sake of the team! I'm going to say my prayers that Ozzie can work his magic again, and find us some bargain's to help fill these holes.

Super excited to having Steve Smith join us. I live in SC and have a lot of Panthers friends, and most of them were excited to see him go to the Ravens if anywhere due to the class of our organization. The Ravens are special!

Ummm, Daryl Smith who led the team in tackles, second in interceptions, team record of passes deflected by a linebacker and the quarterback of the defense. I would say that's a little more than absolutely nothing.

why on earth didnt we just try more for Boldin stay in Baltimore

Oh my, here we go again...

Some people should really excercise some self-restraint and refrain from commenting on contract issues until they understand the cap system and why/how it makes it impossible - or highly impractical - to keep some palyers that would otherwise be golden to keep...

Really, for heaven's sake, really? Boldin? Still?

Guys were SOOOOO lucky to have an owner & GM like we do. It all starts from the top.

Have a great draft and be in the hunt once again.

Il answer that. Coz boldin would have cost 7.5 million last year and 12 these next 2 years. I would have loved boldin to stay but it doesn't make sense

... and, my fellow Ravens-fans, just think about how much this signing may mean to our young receivers, like Brown, Mellette, Thompson and the ones we may draft in May... If there was something they were missing, it was a real veteran mentor - like Boldin for Torrey. Now they have one. I'm more than sure even Torrey will learn a lot from Steve Smith, just imagine how much the young ones are gonna learn...
