[News] Ravens Sign WR Steve Smith

306 posts in this topic

We could sign Mack. But if we did, we would probably be done in FA. And everyone knows Ozzie gets the most out of his money. No harm in making an affordable offer, but the Browns will probably match it. I'd rather sign De Puente. He's a solid stop-gap guy. I have a bad feeling that their gonna give Gino another chance, with AQ and Jenson pushing him in camp. Please, someone tell me it's all in my head.

I don't think any of us can complain about the Free Agency moves this year !

Outstanding job and we keep our own and add an intergral piece to the puzzle, with Steve Smith. He's going to be the perfect fit in the slots !!!

The Ravens could easily give Mack a deal similar to Monroe's. His SALARY CAP number this year is only $3.2 million.

The Ravens had $15.6 million. I would guess that The Smiths take up about $5 million of that. The Ravens draft picks will take about $3 million. That leaves about $7 million. Easily enough to get a Mack deal done. The Ravens can free up another $1.6 million when they bring in another punter and release Koch. (That probably won't happen til the end of pre-season)

Best part of all this is that the Ravens do not lose any comp draft picks - should still get a 4th for Jones and a 5th for Graham.

Your right that we have enough to sign Mack, but the problem is the Browns will have a chance to match that offer. Given their cap space, the contract would have to be very front loaded, which would take basically all of our cap space, and the Browns could probably still match.

this armchair GM has said this before and the Ravens have done this before, I shouldnt have to mentoin any names. Draft a 6'5 - 6'7 tackle in later rounds and move him inside. Ozzie are you still looking for an assistant?!!!

Honestly the things we do...

Re-sign Pitta - JJ - D. Smith - Monroe and now add Smitty... sometimes you have to wonder - does our front office laugh at the rest of the league because they are by far the best? All of this while not putting future comp picks on the chopping block?

Amazing job - I hope all of you stick around for awhile because Joe's run will produce 3 rings when it's all said and done.

Now: Safety - OL are next - in the draft we either trade back and get more or stay and just draft best player available.

Ok I'm going to retract my last comment. At the sake of the salary cap, I guess we're done. You have to think of the huge cap number Flacco will have next year. Gotta have some cushion for that unless he 120 million dollar man will restructure his deal.

His cap number actually isn't to bad this upcoming year and in 2015. I think in the 4th year of his deal, which will be 2016, his number jumps to 29 million. That is when we will restructure. Joe's cap numbers are pretty fair for the next 2 years.

We got a faster version of Anquan Boldin back. I love it.

I would say a faster version of Derrick Mason, but I still love it.

Never bought into the "we are going to go after Alex Mack" hype train. Its a classic fan overreaction. We had a pretty bad center last season. So what do fans want? Us to go after the best center. While its a classic thought concept, its also an irrational one. We don't need the best center in the league, and we don't need to pay top dollar for him. We just need a better center. If we had the 15th best center in the league (which is about what we had when we had Birk), I guarantee no Ravens fan would even be discussing Alex Mack or any other center for that matter.

I just want them to at least try to get Alex Mack somehow it would make our offense fantastic c'mon Ozziw work your magic for me.

I think Ozzie should start looking at some Safeties....we need one. Or possibly a RT. Other than that, we should be about done in free agency.

I think the draft is and should be the plan for both of those spots.

why is everybody giving up on gino at center the guy only started 1 year if you know football and watch him play yes he played bad at times but also played good at times against very good competition I guarentee you he'll play better this year at the end of last year you could see him making more last minute adjustments at the line

The Browns have more than enough cap room to match any front loaded deal. The key is not to front load the offer but to make most of the guaranteed money come out next year (and the following year) when the Browns will have to try and resign Joe Haden, Phil Taylor, Jordan Cameron and then Josh Gordon

Every year, when Free Agency ends,... the Raven FO is graded out "Above Average" at the least and typically, "Outstanding"!  :190048:

I am hoping that Steve Smith has matured from the player who squared off at team mates in the locker room because that issue, and his age, - this is a gutsy move by Oz & Harbs!  :sherlock:

By season's end if Steve Smith is as Tenacious as he's been in the past, and IF (a big "IF") Joe Flacco can find him consistently, this duo may be the connection that moves chains (like Mace did) and opens up the rest of the Offense!   :oldwiseman:

I couldn't see him him here but Steve's a Raven now so I got his back too! :th_baby:

And the franchise will be better for it...

How'd you work that out, I hate the other AFC North teams as everyone else but Alex Mack is one of the best centres in the league and that's probably our weakest spot on offence.  The Franchise would be MUCH better if he was here.

Really Steve smith is good but ancient Nicks , Edelman would have been better younger if Steve smith really is going to help us why on earth didnt we just try more for Boldin stay in Baltimore I don't understand why should we happy about this all this says to me is that ravens admit they made a mistake on boldin nothing new there signing Jacoby way more exciting than this news.

Draft Pryor in the first and a RT in the second with Oher gone. No need to draft a WR now with Smith, Smith, Jones and Brown here for awhile together. Maybe a tight end in the third. One that can block and catch decently. Or sign Owen Daniels and take care of that problem right there. We still have around 10m in cap space not counting what we have to give to the draft picks so probably more like 7m.
