Yes, we very well likely need an upgrade.

What we don't need, however, is to pay a large amount of money for the best possible upgrade. Centers just aren't that important. You don't need the best one.

I've never once recalled any SB winning team who specifically won the SB because they had the absolute best center in the league. In fact, I know several who won a SB with a pretty bad center on their team.

Well Matt Birk to Gino was the biggest change on O-line this year and O-line is most definitely a team effort which means that you could potentially blame one of our worst running seasons ever at least partially to him.  You can also argue that not any position is vital to a Superbowl, first time the ravens won we had one of the worst quarterbacks in the league, last season the broncos had one of the worst defences in the league.

First off I would like to say one thing before I continue....I am a Panthers fan and have been from the beginning. I am happy Smitty when to a team that obviously has the goal of WINNING a Super Bowl, unlike whats going on to my hometown team right now. I am happy he found a new home, he was the lifeblood of our team and you guys have picked up THE greatest Panther of all time. The way the Panthers organization, namely [profanity deleted] Gettleman, treated him was deplorable and I hope that Smitty lights it up when we play you guys, has a career game (maybe 300 yards and 5-6 TDs) and shows Mr Richardson here what a complete moron Dave Gettleman is and immediately fires him after that game. Steve Smith is a class act, we here in Carolina are happy he found a new home and wish him the best, hopefully he can get a ring before he retires because it is OBVIOUSLY NOT the goal of our current GM......maybe it's time to switch teams, or atleast grab a couple Smitty/Raven jerseys.....good luck next year

1st...just returned from my cruise celebrating 30 years of marriage to my wonderful wife and heard the news that we signed Steve Smith! Whaaaaaat? WOW! Yes Sirrrrr!! Great pick up!

 

2nd..why the hell are these writers STILL bringing up Boldin.....who just resigned with the 49ers? Why? LET BOLDIN GO! Damn! Cause the Ravens are definitely in his rear view mirror. Smh!!!!

Elite? Does Smith have to be "elite". Was Mason elite? No. But he was reliable and a mentor for our younger receivers. I have no issues with Steve becoming a possession receiver the offense can count on. No issues at all.

 

The Ravens would have never won a championship with Mason/Flacco.  Mason was never really that great he was just all the Ravens had at the time.  Anyways I have been a fan long enough to remember when the Ravens had losing seasons like it was yesterday.  Steve Smith isn't the answer and Ozzie makes mistake signings from time to time.  I think Steve Smith is one of those mistake signings.  I doubt Steve Smith goes over 500 yards receiving this season.
