Steve Smith a Raven!

384 posts in this topic

Not sure if I like the signing of S. Smith or not. 35 yrs old WR is a scare to me but I will hold judgement till September.

Smith is no regular 35year old. Hes a freak athlete. But the reason why hes been so good for so long is his route running and hands along with his epic speed. He might not be as quick as he once was but Did it stop mason?

I think I can say with confidence that Steve Smith is the better receiver and always was.

I agree with you here. Anquan Boldin was a great WR but lacked the elite 4.3 speed Smith had throughout his career. Steve Smith is a great route runner, has great hands and is extremely physical for his short stature. He plays like a mini Boldin. You watch some of the big plays Smith had throughout his career and a lot were of the Boldin variety...those physical jump balls or traffic collision catches.

To me they are similar in alot of ways but Boldin's lack of speed is what makes Smith the better WR to me...and Smith is a slightly better route runner.

But both were great WRs none the less.

Smith was top 5 undoubtedly. If not higher for several years. Boldin was never that. I honestly don't get how boldin is viewed in hindsight as a great receiver. He played well in one playoff run durring his time here. He was a big disappointment the rest of his time here. Also don't forget his crucial drop in the Pittsburgh playoff loss. Steve smith carried the panther offense to the Super Bowl vs the patriots. Don't forget qb'd by jake dell home.

I think I can say with confidence that Steve Smith is the better receiver and always was.

That's why I like Steve more. He can do everything Boldin can, but also has speed to take the top off a defense, making him more well rounded. Plus, he never had Kurt Warner throwing to him or Larry Fitzgerald next to him

Boldin was great for the Cardinals and an awesome possession receiver, but Steve Smith was always better with less to work with

I'm excited by this signing. Been waiting on pins & needles all day.

Smith might have lost some speed but he has great hands, is physical, knows how to block & is a good route runner.

It will be good for guys like Marlon & Mellete (and even Torrey) to be around a guy like Smith. Hopefully, they'll pick up how to run some crisp routes.

Agreed! I've been wanting this guy to be a Raven for over 10 years now. Everything about him has always been Raven-like. The best thing about his game to add to what you've already mentioned is he is the NFL equivalent of a "gym rat". He is a true student of the game, football 24-7 and one of the most cerebral players in the league. Gotta' love it!

Lmao, I remember that!

Wes Welker=overrated

Mike Wallace=overrated

Dwyane Bowe=overrated

Greg Jennings=overrated

But.....But....Kembrell Thompkins and Aaron Dobson=Issac Bruce and Torry Holt reincarnated.lol.That site is a joke.

Yeah, and he has more heart than Boldin ever did.

That I'll have to jump in and respectably disagree strongly with..

I feel like people commenting on Steves age.. have never watched Steve play.

Its getting really annoying how many mention that. his numbers dropped but we don't need the 1,000 yard Steve. Convert 3rd downs, be willing to block, and open up the field for the rest of the guys. Thats all i ask.

Panther fan here.

As hurt and angry as I am to lose Steve, I can tell you that you're still getting a great player.  Don't pay attention to his numbers from 2013.  Our offensive coordinator is a complete idiot who had no idea to use him.  Kubiak won't have that problem.   He's the perfect fit for what the Ravens need.  This is a steal for you guys.  I will continue to root for Steve and I will also cheer for the Ravens as my new second favorite team.

Congratulations and good luck in 2014!

Naw...... they both play with passion and fire so I wouldn't say one has more heart than the other.

I like Steve Smith. Tough guy who will help us most on third downs and fighting for extra yards. I still wouldn't be surprised if we drafted a WR early though. We need a high caliber young guy next to Torrey for the long haul. Let's not forget about Marlon Brown either though.

Anyone else thinks he looks good in purple?  Quick photoshop job.

(I could only find an old Reebok jersey from the Mark Clayton days)

Back in 2010 when I wanted S.Smith many talked down, quite curious how many praise now, although he's only shell of himself it's still a solid pick-up in my opinion.

If I would've seen this I might have agreed with you. The only reason people may have rejected it was cause every wr on the 10 team was slow. There was no speed and people probably wanted a faster guy.

i am not sure how people cant get down with this move.  it allows smith to play the slot, something he couldnt do in carolina because of their scheme/personnel, and he keeps himself in incredible shape. hes gonna kill it for us.

if art has a year better then last then even a 3rd is not out of the question

It is unfortunately. The picks are largely based on contract size and what somebody averages annually. Guys like Verner or Talib that got 10+ mil. per year will be in the 3rd round range. But Jones is definitely a 4th. Ihedigbo might be a 5th if everything goes well. Oher signed a hefty deal, he might net us a 4th but I doubt it. Cody probably a 7th. Graham probably a 5th and Dickson maybe a 6th or 7th. Just my guesses but it's gonna be in the ballpark.

God I hate that number. Travis Taylor, Mark Clayton. Ugh. Hope once and if Steve rocks it he'll help me forget about the past.
