Steve Smith a Raven!

I say we trade back in the draft now the wideout is not a code red any longer, unless someone like Ebron or one of tackles fall.

It's doubtful that the departures of Art Jones, Graham, or Oher will yield us comp picks higher than the 5th-round, though, right?

Jones may be a 4th.  I haven't exactly gone through all of the contracts, but it seems like a lot of big ones were given so I'm honestly not sure right now.

I can see Art garnering a 4th.  The others definitely not over a 5th.

Art signed a big contract, he should have a good season and the Colts will definitely make the playoffs again. He'll net us a 4th rounder, without a doubt.

if art has a year better then last then even a 3rd is not out of the question

It's definitely not a 3rd.  The contract value isn't close to what a 3rd round comp is for.

I want to hug Ozzie.

It really was an Anti-Oz signing wasn't it?

He takes a 35 year old receiver. (Read not confirmed) And pays him pretty dang good money with the signing bonus.  Really Un-Oz like.  But he's clearly feelin the heat from what precipitated this.

What do we get?

We get a veteran that knows the game. Knows the Hot Reads...Knows his routes.

We get a athlete who really keeps himself in shape.

We get a veteran to impart the smarts to the young guys like Mellette, Brown and even Torrey Smith.

We get an attitude that we seemed to have lost last year.

We get a lot.

We get hope.

Make no mistake he is not Anquan Boldin, but he may bring intangibles to the table that make him even more valuable than would initially appear.

I'll give Oz kudos on this one.  He broke the recent mold and Raven fans have to love the gamble.

i really think you underrate steve smith....steve smith has always been a higher ranked WR then boldin

Smith was dealing with injuries last year..the previous 2 years he was epic. Boldin and smith are of similar ability right now..but in their primes..comon..its not even close..steve smith was BIG TIME. he can make plays for us like boldin did but in different ways.

Steve Smith in his prime was a beast.. A much better WR than Q ever was, and had crappy QBs to go with it..

Now, Boldin and Smith are about neck and neck. But Smith gives us more of what we need. A shifty slot WR who LIKES big hits and physicality. He still has enough speed.

Everyone remember that game where we just couldn't stop Steve Smith and he destroyed us?

Smith was an all pro for a reason..

If he stays healthy, this is a great signing.

Considering Nicks got a 1 year deal we honestly got the better player for less considering both are short term arrangements. Only way you could argue Nicks was the better signing is if it were a long term deal. Heading into next season I would much rather have Steve Smith. That's why Ozzie is the man. Out maneuvering a competitive AFC team who is just as desperate for wr's and has like double the cap room.. now that's a good GM.

Art and Oher should get us a 4th rounder each, considering the contract amounts and playing time they should get

Oher is probably a 5th.  Based on contracts, the 4th round cutoff should be $25M or so.  A lot of contracts fell in the $30M range this year so $20M falls too short.

Q was every bit the game breaker in his prime Smith was. And he could block as well. I think you have to pick knits to declare one better than the other.

When will the compensatory picks for this year be released? We should get two 4ths for Ellerbe and Kruger and a 5th for Ed Reed.

Agreed, @ 35 yrs old, would've preferred 1 or 2 with less money.

Don't look at the years... that's done to spread out the bonus money and reduce the cap hit. In reality, it's probably a 2-year deal at most, but we'll see how he plays! I'm expecting him to be a huge asset.

Yep yep, can't argue with that logic. He certainly brings the attitude and hopefully the field generalship I think we lack on offense. The home game vs CAR will be a blast!

Guys, I want to say you're getting one helluva player. Many Panthers fans have so much respect for Smitty. Dont let him get away like our idiot FO did. He will play his heart out for you, he's a smart butt but so what, he will only say what other people are really thinking. I cant think of a better place for him to be than here, after I saw how you guys treated Ray at the end of his career. I am actually thinking of becoming a Ravens fan.

Hey, we get rid of Oher AND we get a draft pick for doing so? I'm not gonna complain if it is a 5th, 4th, 17th :)

He'll fit right in over here; I feel for Panthers fans, I remember the feeling I had when Ed Reed officially signed with Houston....doesn't feel good to lose an icon and local hero, even when you know his best days are gone.

And you don't think Steve Smith could block? Not to mention Boldin had Larry Fitzgerald taking massive attention away from him all but one year in Arizona

I'm a new Ravens fan.....I've always watched some of the games, but I will follow Steve Smith wherever he goes. I never watched football much until I saw Steve play and he is amazing to watch. The passion, the moves and the fire he brings to the game. I love Smitty. He is very caring person and lives for God 1st and his family 2nd. He loves the game of football so much and he cherishes his fans. Oh, and Steve Smith Jr. will arrive this year. Congrats on a fine choice for The Ravens.

Well it was a little different with Reed. Baltimore would'nt match the Texans offer. We had Smitty under contract and released him for no reason.

Can debate the topic all day long, point is that neither is clearly better than the other, not to mention they are completely different players

I think I can say with confidence that Steve Smith is the better receiver and always was.

Not sure if I like the signing of S. Smith or not. 35 yrs old WR is a scare to me but I will hold judgement till September.

Yeah, and he has more heart than Boldin ever did.
