Steve Smith a Raven!

384 posts in this topic

With that contract size, he'll cost us probably around 2M on the cap. Should still have room for some moves.

Mack would likely consume almost all of that (and Cleveland would probably match it). I still think De La Puente or Dietrich-Smith are the more realistic options.

Perhaps the front runner is Dietrich-Smith ... because of his last name (it is at least 1/2 a "Smith") :-)

Already signed with another team. :)

1. The owner(?) of Walter Football is a Patriots fan (and, unsurprisingly, gave the Darrelle Revis-to-New England deal a perfect A+). That's all I have to say about that.

2. I recall, during the 2013 free agency period, going onto Walter Football to look-up all of the potential free agents. I get to the WR list and, I kid you not, their owner(?) used the word, "overrated", in every, single write-up for those receivers.

Lmao, I remember that!

Wes Welker=overrated

Mike Wallace=overrated

Dwyane Bowe=overrated

Greg Jennings=overrated

I think he'll be an okay contributer.  I'm just not sure he gives the Ravens anything they don't already have.  And this definitely isn't for the future.  It's a win-now move.  I think this sets back Marlon Brown's development.  I thought the Ravens would be better suited getting a bigger receiver that can be that red zone target, or a guy who can go up for the ball on must-convert 3rd downs.

The Ravens already have two very fast/speedy receivers in Torrey Smith and Jacoby Jones.

But hey, I'd rather the Ravens do SOMETHING than sit back and do nothing and expect things to change.  So I guess at the very least, I'm intrigued to see a new face out there that's been a known peformer for the last decade.

Safe bet that the home game against the Panthers will be a Sunday Night game.  So for all you who like to complain about night games.... get a head start on selling your tickets to that game.  haha.

Torrey gunning deep, Marlon on the outside, Iceman in the slot, Pitta at TE. Health permitting, we have an adequate group for Flacco to work with. Let's get a Center and RT and get our trophy back from the Ravens out west!!

With Jacoby and Torrey using their speed on the outside, Steve Smith in the slot and Pitta working the middle, Flacco has no excuses

Fix the line and draft him another weapon and his margin for error will be very thin if he has any sort of season similar to last year. but thats the last thing i see right now as long as Kubes is here. He and Dennison will not only fix the scheme, but fix Flacco as well.

you see..marlon worries me..hes got potential but i wonder if he can truly take that next step. Beefing up a bit this offseason might be a good idea

A healthy Rice and improved line. Not making the playoffs will motivate em this year....

Hopefully

Yeah man, who knows what Steve still has left in the tank; but for such a low price for such an accomplished player, it is certainly worth finding out! Beats the heck out of maintaining status quo.

Steve brings us sure-handedness, and the ability to attack the ball regardless of who is around, and awesome after the catch potential -- all things that we are sorely lacking at WR

Why does everyone think this stops the Ravens from drafting a receiver early? The Packers had James Jones, Jody Nelson, Donald Driver, and Greg Jennings, but they still drafted Randall Cobb (I realize Jennings would be a free agent, like Torrey, and Driver was at the end of his career, like Steve). Why would this stop the Ravens from drafting an OBJ or Marqise Lee? Think of how Roddy White and Dez Bryant took three years to develop. This is likely a move to allow the rookie to develop, which is really smart. It lets the rookie develop and not be rushed. This is a position of confidence and not rushing the rookie will keep his confidence in tact.

I respect Steve Smith but wasn't excited by the idea due mainly to the perceived lack of upside potential. Now he's here, so "Welcome" Steve Smith.

Me too HoldingCall.  that and attitude.

I hear that....if I were 100% sold on Marlon, I would say we have one of the best WR groups out there. For now, I think it is above average (that's including Pitta as a WR). But if we fix the OL, we dont need three All Pro's; this is more than good enough

We didn't trade Boldin because he was old, we traded him because he had a bigger cap hit than Joe Flacco.

There's also far more room for hanging onto Steve Smith - different years, different cap values, different situations.

WE ALREADY ARE?!?!?! CONSPIRACY, THIS WAS PLANNED

i hope we take OBJ or Lee, they are both a lot like Smith and could learn alot from him, even Landry would be about the same kind of player just not as fast

Agreed! Would love them all here along with Smith

Don't fix what isn't broken. Flacco's performance last year was much more a reflection of the offense around him than anything else.

Walter hates WR's in general. He also takes age into account way too much. If he is over 30, he must be washed up.

Who do you like in this draft.

WalterFootball is terrible.

Everytime he changes his picks, he keeps the same paragraphs on the updates. I look at it for fun but he doesn't know our needs at all.

I am very disappointed in this year's WR draft class.

Tim Smith            WR    95      Virginia    rSr    6-0    195
Rashard Smith    WR    128    North Carolina State    rSr    5-9    177
Jamil Smith         WR    140    Ball State    rSr    5-6    140
Devon Smith       WR    150    Marshall    rSr    5-7    155
Daniel Smith       WR    116    Notre Dame    Sr    6-3    213

Best rated Smith is only 95th.

He (WalterFootball) probably just pulled out the star sheet and didn't watch the games. Steve Smith still has great speed and his route running is among the best in the NFL. He's extremely tough and gritty....

The dude is an idiot

Newsflash Mr. Walter Football, I'm really not that interested in his speed anyway. We've got T. Smith and Jacoby ... we don't need speed, we need toughness (as you said). And when you are looking for a guy that can make those key catches, I am not going to judge value based on yardage stats. I'm not concerned about his value on your fantasy team, Mr. Walter, I'm interested in his value getting my REAL team wins.

I think if a play making /centerfielder type safety falls to them in round one he's the pick.

There isn't a good enough one.
