Steve Smith a Raven!

$10.5M with a $3.5M signing bonus.

Absolute Steal - a little over 4 million for a guy who's still a starting caliber receiver.

Great day today. Signed two awesome players, two of my favorite players at that. But do we still have enough money for an OL player?

For whatever reason, WalterFootball hated the deal:

I personally thought it was a good signing, well done.

Who are we to trust, Walter football, or our front office? Hmmm ... some self important self anointed dweeb experts or guys who are sporting SuperBowl rings?

Yeah, kind of a no-brainer there ...

So our WR group is now Torrey, Steve, Marlon, and Jacoby.  Hopefully an early draft pick in there as well.  Big improvement over last year in the depth department.

Mark My words, if the ravens make it back Into the playoffs next year, Steve Smith will have a bigger run than Q did. You need that clutch veteran in the playoffs, and Smith fits that bill.

If I had a choice I'd prefer Boldin but this is good. Good thing Ozzie got it done.

He probably just pulled out the star sheet and didn't watch the games. Steve Smith still has great speed and his route running is among the best in the NFL. He's extremely tough and gritty. Cam Newton also had his lowing passing total of his career, and so obviously Steve Smith wasn't going to get lots of yards. Not to mention who did he really have to take attention off of him?

My favorite part was talking about him not being a number one receiver or a starter. The Ravens may ask him to start given the prevalence of three receiver sets, but he won't be the number one- that would be Torrey. Smith will also be in the slot, and not many teams are like the Ravens and have one of their top two cornerbacks cover the slot, so his job just go easier.

The dude is an idiot

As a regular on WF, trust me, no one really pays attention to those grades from what I can tell.

I am too, and i can say nobody likes anything he does at all. I guess he is just a good troll. I have no idea why he was expecting smith to receive vet minimum. thats ridiculous.

Walt and his site can shove it. Calling a transaction the worst ever in March; not presumptuous at all... -_-

Steve can obviously still play. He never needed elite speed to move the chains, he's a willing blocker and he brings much-needed toughness and fire to the ofense. Can't wait to see him unleashing plays like this on the Bengals and Steelers.

With that contract size, he'll cost us probably around 2M on the cap. Should still have room for some moves.

Mack would likely consume almost all of that (and Cleveland would probably match it). I still think De La Puente or Dietrich-Smith are the more realistic options.

Perhaps the front runner is Dietrich-Smith ... because of his last name (it is at least 1/2 a "Smith") :-)

I agree completely. It would be great if we still had Boldin, but this move makes sense for us now. Good move by the Ravens.

I respect Steve Smith but wasn't excited by the idea due mainly to the perceived lack of upside potential. Now he's here, so "Welcome" Steve Smith.

Walter Football is a joke. They said Marlon Brown shouldn't be a receiver in the NFL.

With Jacoby and Torrey using their speed on the outside, Steve Smith in the slot and Pitta working the middle, Flacco has no excuses
