Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet 1m

How good a selling job did Ozzie Newsome & John Harbaugh do? Source says Steve Smith cancelled flight to New England to stay in Baltimore

Damnnnnnnn right.

Ozzie does have a reputation for not letting guys he wants leave the building.

I can picture Steve Smith trying to walk out of Ozzie's office trying to go to the bathroom, and Ozzie shutting it, locking it, and handing him a pen telling him to sign first.

I have a feeling we'll play the panthers next season. The nfl likes drama lol

We already are. I bet they make it prime time, MNF. It's in Baltimore.

It ain't official unless posted on our front page.

I got the text, does that make it official lol.

Even with a low salary cap, Ozzie is dangerous. Give him more cap space to work..... even more dangerous.

I was reading on Twitter we convinced Smith not to go visit the Patriots... if ever there was a time the phrase "In Oz We Trust" was more true, this is it.

Much needed since someone said Boldin wasn't worth 6 million.

I like the signing, the hands, the intensity.    Ozzie and the staff has had a great offseason so far. Kudos!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It doesn't.  Only external UFA who's contracts expired with their previous team.

even better. Thanks for the info. so basically all of our signings thus far do not count against us. Since Smith was actually cut

He's getting $3.5 a year, that won't kill us. I just hope Ozzie realizes he still needs to take advantage of this draft class and draft someone in the first two rounds at that position.

To me this is a sign we go wideout rd one or two. If we had signed a younger guy like nicks we would wait.

3 yrs of smith. Rookie wr 3rd year. Ideal fit for a transition.

steve smith was the best reciever in the league for a couple of years..something neither boldin or mason were. He is also a fitness freak. Great signing but I feel a center is NOW the biggest priority

This is simply not correct. Boldin was probably the best in league for two years, and excellent for a third. how soon we forget...

Wow - obviously we were very motivated to get him - not letting him get out of the building without a signed contract. I think the fact that he signed without any other visits and signed for under 4M per year speaks to the fact that he really likes the idea of being a Raven.

I am rather surprised (pleasantly so). I didn't expect to hear this news until tomorrow.

I think if a play making /centerfielder type safety falls to them in round one he's the pick.

Yes we learned from the mistake of letting Boldin go.

WE ALREADY ARE?!?!?! CONSPIRACY, THIS WAS PLANNED

i hope we take OBJ or Lee, they are both a lot like Smith and could learn alot from him, even Landry would be about the same kind of player just not as fast

Let me guess....this had nothing to do with Harbs because he can't handle big personalities  :P

Anyway, three years is longer than I expected, but he certainly brings an attitude to the team and offense more importantly.

if Dix drops I can see us nabbing him at 17. but at the same time. That puts us in a slight bind 4/5 years from now. since last years first round pick was Elam. Would put both our starting safeties on the table for a new contract.. about the same time. So I dunno if we would grab a safety in the first.

Mark My words, if the ravens make it back Into the playoffs next year, Steve Smith will have a bigger run than Q did. You need that clutch veteran in the playoffs, and Smith fits that bill.

Wow that was quick. I am excited to see what he can do. Hopefully we can get some o-line guys now so Joe can have some time to get some good passes off to these good receivers.

Mod Note:  Can we remember that there is a draft thread, and stay with the signing of Steve Smith here please?

Thanks

Mom

What years are you referring to? Boldin played with guys like Marvin Harrison, Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, etc., and so did Smith, so I'd say neither were ever the best
