Steve Smith a Raven!

384 posts in this topic

Speed is what Torrey and Jacoby are for.  Steve Smith brings his toughness, grit, scrappiness, and ability to get separation and make plays to the table!  Now, I just hope that he and Flacco and get on the same page quickly before the season begins!

Scary thing is, Smith is still pretty fast, especially if you account for his age....

My sister who lives in Charlotte and is a season ticket holder for the Panthers was pretty upset that they released Smith but is happy he came to the Ravens. Hardest part would be seeing him in purple and black according to her!

I'm hoping he can teach some of that separation & route running to Jacoby, Marlon & Torrey! Or at least that perhaps they'll gain some from osmosis!

i do believe that all pro vet players do well in Baltimore.  When you have other players that are equally as good it creates some internal competition it forces the veterans to go harder and tougher and he is going to do well in Baltimore.

Gotta love the excitement Steve feels for his new team:

“To get 1,000 yards, I don’t think it’s impossible,” Smith said. “But for me to get 1,000 yards, Torrey [smith] to get 1,000 yards and Ray Rice to get 1,000 yards and maybe Jacoby and whatever wide receivers, I think it’s doable. Obviously with [Dennis] Pitta, I say why not all of us? Be the 1,000-yard club back when they used to have those clubs.

You heard it here first! Joe Flacco will throw for 5000 yards easy.

Yeah, I don't see how Joe doesn't break 5k. With Smitty and The Weatherman in the Flock along with Torrey, Jacoby, Marlon and Pitta it seems that this may be the best group of receivers ever for the Ravens. And it also seems the O line should be at least respectable.  Should be a wholelottafun to watch!

Ha, let's start with 4k.

eh, nothing wrong with being optimistic.

True...but I prefer being realistic. Would love a stat riddled 4k season. As much as some think stats dont mean anything, well, if you have stats you've generally performed well.

Steve Smith is gonna be a beast. I've suddenly become super excited for this signing. Thanks, YouTube.

Well, considering Joe was just shy of 4k last year with a pitiful O line, 0 running game and a depleted receiving corps, I don't think 5k is unrealistic at all.

Smitty is a beast.  can't wait!

guys like Stafford and Dalton are perfect examples of stats being unimportant. it's one thing to stack up numbers in garbage time or when you're forced to throw to bring your team back in the game, but I wouldn't want them anywhere near my team if my life depended on winning the game.

I doubt Kubiak's system will allow Flacco to reach 5k, but 4400 is a realistic goal. If our defense plays poorly this year, then maybe I can see 5k happening

I actually think 4335 is more realistic.  4400 is just pushing is too far.

I'm going 4336.

True, but big yards may just end up being a bye product of having what seems to be such a well rounded and talented receiving corps. It would be nice to see a solid run game as well, but that's a little iffy right now, wouldn't you say?

And bite your tongue! There shall be no poor defensive play in Bmore.

And guys like Brees and Manning are perfect example of stats being important. GENERALLY stats = good game play. Howver, there are exceptions to all rules, as you've shown. Is it more probable to have great stats and poor play or have poor/average stats and great play? Pretty obvious.

I'll bid one dollar, Bob. Winning!

But if you are with in $100.00 you win both showcases.

I actually think the run game will go back to normal this year; getting KO back, getting rid of Oher and going from Gino to Zuttah are significant. And of course, Kubiak should help too. However, I do think that Flacco has a great chance of throwing a crap load of TDs; I can see a 4400 yard / 30 - 35 TD season -- if all goes well.

I know what you're saying, but I bolded that part because it is pretty much my point....look at guys like Flacco, Kaepernick, Wilson and Ben. They don't put up big numbers, but no sensible person would base their play on their stats; if people did that, they would say asinine things like guys like Foles, Stafford and Dalton are better than the first group. ( Oh wait....lol )
