Reports: Ravens Re-Sign Daryl Smith to 4 Year Deal!

They either pay through their noses to keep him, or we get a critical piece to a dominant offense. Either way, we win if we make Mack a nice offer

I think if we have the money (and are willing) to spend on Mack which is more than the Browns are offering, then its a no brainer to give him an offer.  As you said, worst case scenario is the Browns pay more for him and we still have to look for a center.

That being said, we have made quite a few moves that have greatly diminished our cap space.  I don't know if there is enough room to put together a solid offer for Mack that is more than what the Browns have already offered him.

When do teams have to be under the cap?  Because we could just offer him a ridiculous contract with no guaranteed money and release him from it.  That would take out the browns cap and negate the Transition tag.

Not sure if that's at all possible just throwing ideas out

We have to stay under the cap. The only difference between now and the start of the season is that currently only the highest 51 count against the cap. The "JAG" players don't count.

If you look at Monroe's contract vs. his cap hit for this year - it's very feasible that we could offer Mack a decent contract and still have enough room for a Steve Smith or some other mid level FA signing as well as sign draft picks etc...

Something like 5 years $32.5 mill with $12.5 guaranteed. Could potentially only be a $3.2 mill cap hit.

Brought in Kubiak.

Got Monroe for even less than what I wanted us to pay him.

Brought Jacoby back for peanuts.

Locked Pitta up long term.

Brought Daryl Smith back.

Still have at least $12 - $13M in cap room and the draft to go to fill the rest of our needs.

Could this off-season possibly have gone better so far???

No, it could not. Ozzie is killing it.

I was absolutely heartsick yesterday when I read that Elway was targeting Daryl as his next move, and trying to have faith our FO was committed to getting it done.

Sooo glad he's going to stay a Raven.

This is the best offseason we've ever had and we're 4 days into FA! Every move has been outstanding. What went wrong? i can't think of anything... losing the coinflip? Thank god we got both smiths here. Great leaders on both sides of the ball.

This has been a great off-season. I'm really happy with these additions. Smith is a big addition because he could play SAM in the 4-3, a trait which I feel is overlooked. With that, we only need a MIKE and we could run a 4-3 system very effectively with Brown & Smith.

I'm loving this.

The cap number is probably only $2-2.5M though.

How much Cap space do we have? Also Do you think Chris Clemmons Safety Miami would be worth signing. Also how much cap would we have if we cut our underwhelming punter koch ?

Yes sirrrr!  I'm so glad that they got this deal done.  Daryl impressed the hell out of me last season.  Going back and watching Ravens games this past season and seeing how he got defenders in their proper places was awesome to see!  Now, I can go get his jersey!

Go Ravens!
