Reports: Ravens Re-Sign Daryl Smith to 4 Year Deal!

105 posts in this topic

After the way the OL sabotaged our season last year, we dont need to bring in any more "reasonably priced" players....we need impact players at C and RT (our two biggest weaknesses last year) to turn things around. Let's give Mack his money, and draft a stud RT and get back to the SB.

Yes you are the only one. This is an all pro player at the weakest position on the team. And the second most important.

Aa for price. Ozzie will structure a smart contract that won't kill us.

Fun fact... The only injury outside of quarterback that will move a line in Vegas....not wide receiver or left tackle or any defender... Center.

Matt Birk worked out pretty darn well for us and was fairly inexpensive. Then you look at that center the Steelers signed off the street last year who played so well for them. I just think we can get better bang for our buck elsewhere. Both the Bengals and Packers starting centers from last year are free agents after being cut. Ozzie likes to target guys who were cut from other teams.

I don't want Gradkowski to be handed the starting job next year but Birk has vouched for him. Signing a mid level free agent center will allow us the flexibility for an open competition. You also can't discount the impact of KO returning, Yanda being healthy, and a year of experience will have for Gradkowski.

Whats that old saying? Trust in Ozzie? Yeah, seems about right. We've done such a good job at keeping our own Free Agents on reasonable deals. Who would have ever thought we'd find Ray Lewis's replacement in a 32 year old LBer from Jacksonville; Especially after all those years of speculation of "Drafting Ray's Heir".

I don't like this signing, he played well for us but he's not physical enough in the run game and thats only going to regress as he ages. I would be very surprised if he finishes out all 4 years.

Brought in Kubiak.

Got Monroe for even less than what I wanted us to pay him.

Brought Jacoby back for peanuts.

Locked Pitta up long term.

Brought Daryl Smith back.

Still have at least $12 - $13M in cap room and the draft to go to fill the rest of our needs.

Could this off-season possibly have gone better so far???

If Ozzie would've used his Jedi mind tricks to sign, Batman, Superman, Jesus, and THE NFL ROBOT he might still keep his job ;)

Getting packers Center Dietrich Smith and Bears guard Britton would solidify our line. I expect us to get at least one solid vet lineman before we head to draft :)

Hey, we're just fans (loud and obnoxious), focus is for Ozzie & the FO.

LOL...  I know.... it's just that everybody is getting so excited over this guy....  SMH...  He's gonna play "Let's make a Deal"...  visiting multiple teams and such.

Thank you. One place I dont mind spending is the o line. I dont think people realize how DOMINANT our line would be with this pick up. Not only that but they would be together for a while. The oldest guy on our line would be Yanda who I think is 27 or 28. I honestly wouldn't even care who the right tackle is at that point cause there is no way that could be messed up. O line is essentially the lifeline of an offense. Run game and passing game would be superb. We've seen what Joe does with time and Ri.... Pierce does with holes. Our weapons on offense will truly shine once the guy getting them the ball isn't scrambling cause 2 guys come free on a 3 man rush.

Any interest Ozzie has shown in Mack is simply him doing his due diligence. Do you have any idea how much money we would have to spend to pry Mack away with all the cap room the Browns have? Do you really think they would let him leave and go to a division rival?

Thought the contract was kinda long as well, but like you said, probably doesn't see the end of it. If Rolando comes back though, our LB core is top 5 (if he's even remotely what he was prior). He does fine though in his role and excels in pass defense so I'm good with him. I really hope McClain decides to come back with his mind right.

Exactly, it's a pipe dream. We'd have to offer something stupid that would hurt us to pry him out of there, especially with all their cap space.

They have the option to match any offer, but if I'm right doesn't he have to ability to refuse theirs? It was dumb of them to put that tag on him cAuse he's probably gone next year anyway.

And by refuse I mean just play under the tag for the year.

I was kinda lost when he said Fall Out Boy

its a lyric in their song "I'm Like a Lawyer With The Way I'm Always Trying To Get You Off (Me and You)"

It goes like the this

And the best way o make it through

With hearts and wrists intact

Is to realize

Two out of three ain't bad

its a cool song you should check it out, but now I kinda prefer Blink 182,Green Day,Queen, the Romoanes,Emily's Army etc.

I think the real problem with this contract is we have more important holes to fill in our offensive line and secondary.

6.1 million for daryl smith this year officially puts an end the mack coming here. Sigh

The cap number is probably only $2-2.5M though.

If that's the case then we're still in the running....

We just have to wait until Browns can't afford him anymore

I'm sure that's through signing bonus, and the cap hit is likely around $2 million

I don't see it happening.  I think the Daryl and Jacoby moves show that we're aiming for the B level players throughout the rest of FA.

They either pay through their noses to keep him, or we get a critical piece to a dominant offense. Either way, we win if we make Mack a nice offer

I highly doubt anything that may or may not materialize with Mack and us happens anytime soon. I'm thinking it's a post-draft move if anything.

With the age of out DL, I would of liked Art to stay but I knew it was a long shot. Glad to have Monroe, Daryl and Pitta back

Good to see Daryl back. It's starting to look like BPA in the draft.

It's that every draft but we still have holes to fill on OL and an offensive weapon as Pitta and Smith don't cut it
