Reports: Ravens Re-Sign Daryl Smith to 4 Year Deal!

My new favorite phrase: "The Ravens and [player] are far apart in negotiations." Seriously, haven't they said that about everyone we've re-signed this year?

If we do nothing to our O-Line.... THAT will be a disaster. Everybody is soooo excited about the WR's. All this WR stuff.... Focus people... Focus.

I think we still make a move on a center and are still interested in Mack. With that said, the line will be better already. Monroe back, KO back, a year of PT for Gino and a healthy Yanda. That and the change in OC will already have us more productive, combined with the fact there will be continuity and Pitta is healthy. Honestly, even if another move wasn't made, I'd be comfortable heading into the draft as is. There are still moves that will be made before and during camp.

The line will be focused on in the draft.

All we heard last year was that our O-Line sucked.  Well, if we are focusing on that in the Draft, we are again opening ourselves up to inexperience on that line.   Criticism came last year because Gino was new and inexperienced...  Osemele was out injured, and so was Yanda...  We need experience there as well to fill in those holes.  Otherwise, our message boards will be O-Line conversations again next year.

We've been having steady negotiations with Daryl for a while, and similar to Eugene Monroe...Daryl Smith lost out to the market after Dqwell Jackson and Karlos Dansby got their contracts.

Another solid resigning by the Oz man....now lets get Smiff signed up next.

Thanks Redrum...  made me feel a little better already!  :)

Ain't that the truth. I'm going to start assuming that means the player is on vacation far away and unable to sign the contract at the moment.

I have to wonder what the disconnect was in price that got bridged so quickly. 4 years 16M ... that's pretty nice - it feels like the FO had to move in his direction pretty significantly. I can't imagine he was expecting a whole lot more than that.

This is another important signing. Yet another move that removes another position from being a glaring need as we roll into the draft. Still have a few, but still plenty of time.

The sweet spot in Free Agency is upon us, now that all the teams with money burning a hole in their pocket have shelled it out.

There is only so much money to go around. We can't make it rain to bring people in. All our holes will not be filled in FA.

Agreed. You can have scrubs at WR if your O-Line is great.

Yes!  I was holding my breath on this one.  It had been so quiet I figured Oz was working his magic.

Now let's go get another Smith. :)

If we can just sign Steve Smith now we will be set heading into the draft and just take the best player available.

I don't know. We still need a center, and preferably not a rookie. So Steve Smith and a center, then we can head into the draft.

We are going to make O line moves, both in FA and in the draft. As I said in a previous post, the sweet spot in Free Agency is upon us. There will be the potential for some significant moves.

Absolutely #1 is center. Just showing our interest in Mack is telling that we don't plan on getting a stop-gap 35+ vet center on a 1 or 2 year deal. While I still don't anticipate we land him, we should land either him, De La Puente or Dietrich-Smith. If we don't get one of those 3 guys ... then I'm going to be making posts similar to the one you gave ... but I'm still holding out that we make that move.

I also believe that we're going to bring in a FA guy to at least compete at RT. Then we'll focus pretty hard on OL in the draft ... and not the 4th 5th round variety like we have in Gino and Wagner, but the 2nd, 3rd round (such as where we landed KO) ... or if the fit is right, perhaps even the 1st round.

Brought in Kubiak.

Got Monroe for even less than what I wanted us to pay him.

Brought Jacoby back for peanuts.

Locked Pitta up long term.

Brought Daryl Smith back.

Still have at least $12 - $13M in cap room and the draft to go to fill the rest of our needs.

Could this off-season possibly have gone better so far???

Considering WR Steve Smith is at the castle right now talking stuff over with our team...it could get evvven better later today.

Gonna be a lot of great Smith's on the Ravens this season haha

the only way i see this getting any better is if we get Mack or that center from Green Bay if we do that I will  do Ray Lewis's dance in my underwear and run around my neighborhood yelling "IN OZ WE TRUST!!!!!"

Awesome signing!!!! I was hoping that we would resign Monroe, Smith, and Graham. As the song goes, "Two out of three ain't bad."

This FA is soooooooooooo much better than last year!

I had hoped we'd get Smith re-signed but had come to terms with the fact he might be leaving.

Very excited for the upcoming season!

Pieces are falling into place.

Am I the only one who doesn't want Mack? I just think he would cost way too much money. I'd rather get one of the mid level free agent centers and use the cap savings elsewhere.

After the way the OL sabotaged our season last year, we dont need to bring in any more "reasonably priced" players....we need impact players at C and RT (our two biggest weaknesses last year) to turn things around. Let's give Mack his money, and draft a stud RT and get back to the SB.

Yes you are the only one. This is an all pro player at the weakest position on the team. And the second most important.

Aa for price. Ozzie will structure a smart contract that won't kill us.

Fun fact... The only injury outside of quarterback that will move a line in Vegas....not wide receiver or left tackle or any defender... Center.
