[News] Late For Work 3/13: Ravens Monitor As WR Market Heats Up

149 posts in this topic

Why isn't Bernard Pollard still there who was more productive than both Idhedigbo and Elam. Hell Ed Reed even made more plays then they did when he went to the Jets. Between Smith & Boldin, who had the more productive season? 2 million brought in to bums last year Spears and Huff.

The 49ers had a better O-line than the Ravens and I actually think Torrey got more receiving yards I could be wrong they were close. Reed is made of glass thats why the Texans dropped him. Pollard committed too many penalties and many players last offseason said that he was annoying in the locker room.

No issue Webb playing FS, has the range, and is one of the most under-rated tackling CB's in the league....

Why put a great cornerback at safety. There's a saying that says don't mess with something that isn't broken. Plus after the Graham signing that just would weaken our cornerback core...

how many games did Edelman, rice, miles, nicks miss over the last few years?? We need players who can last a season, and be depended on....the majority of the list of WR's were released or not resigned, because they couldn't show they could stay healthy...we need players, not players that would require a M.A.S.H unit to be on call 24/7

Moving Webb to CB is not breaking anything, it is insuring our back end is solid, as we all so the rook get burned on a lot of deep balls last year, his support of the cb's in front of him, will allow him to be a ball hawker...

I would much rather Asa Jackson get a shot at CB then Chykie Brown. Brown is Putrid on defense. He is good on ST, but poor putrid as a DB! Now we need a FS, and A CB. I personally thought Grahm was better then Webb on the outside. Webb should be our Nickel. EVER SINSE WEBB GOT HIS BIG CONTRACT HE HAS NOT LOOKED THE SAME!.In fact the only solid year he had at CB was the year before he received his extension. I believe he isn't putting in the time and effort in the offseason it takes to be a #1 CB.

1. I don't know... why isn't Pollard in KC anymore? Or Houston (where he had over 100 tackles in back to back seasons without playing every game)? Fool me once... shame on us. Fool me four times... POLLARD IS THE PROBLEM.

2. Ed Reed made so many plays for the Jets that he got benched. That happens to all good players right?

3. Boldin was gone because the FO didn't value him at $6m and he's in the twilight of his career. I know its cute and all for fans to pretend like Boldin would have put up 1,100 yards for the Ravens last year, but its naive.

Bitterness isn't good for the fan card bro. The "Harbaugh doesn't like anybody who challenges him" guy is the same guy who thinks 9/11 was a government coverup. They have nothing better to do, so why not start wielding conspiracy theories that have no bearing whatsoever.

Its a fan created myth, nothing more.

I think Steve Smith would be the better slot option. Maybe he plays two more years and help develop our young WR's (Brown, Mellete and our 2014 draft pick). Edelman wants a long term deal and we should not give him one. We need to resign Torrey, Jacoby got a 4yr deal and Brown and Mellete have 3 years left. Also the new draft pick will have a 4yr deal, so signing Steve Smith for 2yrs would be ideal.

So far we go into the draft needing a FS, MLB, RT, Nickle Corner, slot reciever and TE. I am good with that! We can easily draft for those positions. I still think we get a vet FS and MLB, but I like the position we are in.

funny how they say we need steve smith to be a slot receiver when we still don't have a number 1 WR. this is a joke

Who was the so-called no.1 on the Seahawks last year, or the Ravens the year before? Both won the SuperBowl with a solid receiving core. That's what matters, not the labels.

Funny how the definition of #1 receiver is completely subjective to each franchise and moreso to fans...

Nicks will be a Panther.. James Jones will likely go to the Jets and give them the 1-2 punch to help Gino Smith or whoever they line up at QB.. Steve Smith will be a NE Patriot.. Thats the best fit for him.. He's at the end of his career and he knows that.. This stage of his career its Super Bowl is the only thing on his mind.. So ask yourself.. Bellicheck and Brady or Harbaugh and Flacco?.. Case closed.. Edelman then likely falls to Baltimore.. The Ravens guy all along they just sit and wait to sign him so that they dont have to spend the most.. Classic Ozzie move

Why is there no news on Michael Oher? I would like to see him come back. He is the quintessential Raven. Never complains and always a hard worker. He might not be the best tackle but he is a solid starter at RT.

i think the ravens should quit thinking steve smith and go hakeem nicks a more versitile option with a longer life span left to go has good hands top speed and a good play maker across the middle and deep. i think steve's at the end of his rope with 2-3 yrs left in him and granted he's a good option across the middle but we need to think long term here

yea ur argument just fell apart on it's self simply because everyone knows Q was the number1 on the ravens when we won the superbowl, however the trade value did not show that he was ( com'on ozzie 6round draft choice, pls easily a 3-4) but every good fan knew it and so do u

WR's mean jack if we can't protect Flacco, 48 sacks, zero run blocking, zero screen blocking...we have the horses to play WR, but it all starts with the O-Line...So..Oz find a way to sign Mack...

Nobody believes Steve Smith is a long term solution, just long enough to contribute until the young receivers overtake him. If we get Steve Smith, we'll probably take a WR in round 2.

I don't really like any of the wide receivers or safetys left in FA. It would be awesome if they addressed the center position with Alex Mack and re-signed Daryl Smith. If that happens I'd grade the front office with an A for free agency. Use the draft to fill the rest.

I really want D Smith back but the prospect of retaining him doesn't sound too good right now. Of course, there was a time the same thing could be said of Monroe, so we shall see. Sounds like the FO is keen on Steve Smith, and I would be ok with that, but he still remains my Second choice. I still think Edelman should be our guy. From the day he joined the FA list, he's been my biggest "dream" signing. Perfect slot receiver/skill set that we need.

Just out of curiousity... what is your basis for thinking Boldin is worth a 3rd or 4th rounder? Are you aware of what we traded to get him 4 years ago? Why would his value of have gone up since then?

Also, since you are certain that he could have fetched that price, can you please provide me the name of the team that offered that price? I'd be very interested to know this, since nobody else seems to know. If nobody offered that price... wouldn't that tell you something? I mean I know its cool for fans to pretend like they have a clue what a players value is, but rarely are they ever even in the ballpark.

I'll give you a hint... the Vikings were the first one to come calling. The best receiver on their roster at the time was Jerome Simpson. They offered a 7th rounder.

Sometimes facts just get in the way of a good fantasy...

ummm ok…. whatever that means...

It means every single person has a different OPINION of what a #1 WR is. Some think its the guy that puts up the most stats, and some thing its the guy that teams target when they need a conversion.

In general, I'd like to think that if a team's fans have to argue about who their #1 WR is, then they probably don't have one. I think the Ravens would fall into that mode, and have for years.

Agree agree and agree on this post.... People have major differences in beliefs for who the #1 receiver is, it really is on opinion. In my opinion, I do not see Torrey Smith as a #1 receiver just because he isn't consistent and doesn't get as many catches as another receiver can. But if we base it off stats Torrey Smith had one hell of a year last year even with the poor offensive play. It's all a matter of opinion. I just want a player who can consistently get open in the draft I do not care what type of receiver they are.

Am I the only one who DOESN'T want Steve Smith? Sure, he's had a great career and all, but he is past his prime. We need to use the money on picking up a FS or another TE. I think we should get Clemons at FS and Owen Daniels at TE and draft a WR in the first round. I'd rather have a 1st round rookie who is fresh than a 35 year old receiver who is past his prime.
