[News] Ravens Reach Four-Year Agreement With Jacoby Jones

Great news. I'm glad he's back. The best returner in the NFL. (my opinion) Sorry to lose Graham. OK Ozzie, lets sign D. Smith and Owen Daniels.

I love that we resigned Jacoby but 3.5/year is a lil too much for a return specialist. Hopefully his cap hit won't be too much. Where are the center and RT??

Where are the center and RT???  Gee whiz!  It is only the FIRST day of free agency so give our FO the chance to make the moves I truly believe they will make before or after the draft.

As for JJ, he is more than a return specialist...he is a speedy WR and can be counted on for 3 to 4 catches per game...check the history.  However, as a return specialist, he has been one of the best in the NFL...not just TDs, but the 30 - 40 yard "field flipper" that he has done so many times.

Who said 3.5 Million is too much?

Forget them both. Go get Steve Smith. Agent saying Smith is not going to play for Carolina next year. He'd love playing at the Bank 8 plus games a year.....

Harbaugh gets rid of players that he doesn't get along with. Smith is not a "Harbaugh" type of guy. Not gonna happen.

Ian Rapoport is reporting that Jacoby actually turned down more money to stay a Raven...and they said hometown discounts were dead ;)

We've got way better crab cakes.

really shouldn't be such a panick for a FA WR, Brown had a heck of a rook year, and will only be better next year in the slot, JJ, Mellete, will make for a nice WR corp, so picking up a vet role playing WR shouldn't be hard to find...We need to solidify the O-Line, and D-line, and Secondary...

I get all that.  but the man has been a difference maker on many levels... as a return man, and a deep ball receiver.  Maybe not every week, but when it counted on a number of occasions....

Don't get me wrong - I love having JJ back. Just think back to a couple years ago when our return game was junk.

My point was that his signing doesn't preclude us going after a guy like Steve Smith. Jones is a best in class return guy and excellent stretch the field guy as a WR, but Smith would be that guy we missed last year when we let go of Boldin.

I really think we need to draft that next hard nosed, across the middle bruising receiver with good hands (if such a player is available), but Smith provides a good bridge to that draft pick. Our organization likes to ease guys in if possible, and Smith would allow us to do that.

Of course, that's all contingent on being able to get him at the right price, but I'm very hopeful that we find a way to get him. He's a guy who we won't have to teach how to play like a Raven ... he has his whole career.

We still need to add a difference maker at WR. Bringing Jacoby back is huge on special teams and he's good for a big play here and there on offense, but he should see less snaps at WR this year than he did last year. His value is on special teams.

I like that we are retaining a lot of our players. If we bring back D.Smith that will be awesome. I want to see us start improving though. We need a center. If we sign a center and bring back D. Smith, that will be a great offseason already.

Between T.Smith, and Brown, with JJ playing in 3 wide sets, i think we have a pretty sexy trio which will cause nightmares for DB's, the bigger issue is protecting Flacco to give him time for the big play routes to develop....48 sacks is the issue in the passing game, not the WR's we have on the roster....

@Postapocalypse Raven, don't buy your line that Coach Harbaugh wants Darryl Smith gone. The FO has earmarked the DS deal as needing to get done. And Coach and the FO are hand in glove.

D.Smith is looking for one last pay day, the problem for us, is we won't over pay, and Oz will let him test the waters, like he did with Monroe...O-Line is still the a bigger issue, and the D-Line is now going to be a unknown with Arthur gone, he was our best D-Lineman last year, so we will have to see who can step up....

If Oz finds a way to scoop up Mack to play center, then that would make the FA period a success IMO...

Way to much money! I like Jacoby, and wanted him back, but the Ravens have bigger needs. MLB, FS, C, WR, RT, TE, then Jacoby. He's a luxury player. I think getting D. Smith and signing a FS, Clemons, should be our number 1 priority. So far we have the same team as last year minus Jones, Grahm, and Ihegdibo. I don't think Kubiak alone can fix our problems. He's an upgrade, but we need players.

what was the eye sore last year? 1. Horrible pass protection 2. Horrible screen blocking 3. Horrible run game...The 3 things we have been pretty good at, prior to last year...O-Line is the priority....

Agreed. To me, all this signing means is he have an expensive kick returner who needs to earn his money, otherwise, he's essentially one a one year deal.

This signing changes absolutely nothing about our need for at least one more quality pass catcher on this team. In an ideal world, we would see a whole lot less of Jacoby on offense in 2014.

Extending Suggs, Resigning Pitta & Monroe already makes this offseason a success.

All these comments. Not one mention of how JJ and Kubiak have worked together. To state the obvious, it's what's ahead that determines value. (Take, for instance, Charlie Casserly's enthusiasm for Monroe inside Kubiak's usual scheme.)

JJ is more valuable than people give him credit for. One of a kind speed, and instant field position. Hopefully Aaron Mellette is having a strong offseason, he had a nice preseason last year before he got injured. I like his potential

We have a lot of good depth there.  DeAngelo Tyson, Brandon Williams, Haloti Ngata, and Chris Canty all have starting experience and look good.  Plus we have Lewis Kapron-Moore who was a very high prospect before his ACL injury at the end of the college season.  We also have Cody Larson, but I don't think he was active for any games.  I think we are stacked at LBs too, so we really don't need to resign Daryl Smith, even though it would be nice.

@EAP, i agree we have a good mix of vets in Ngata, and Canty, but the others showed signs of being solid players, but i would like to see a another proven vet who can hold up, when one of the guys like Ngata, and Canty miss a few games due to injury..One thing i would like to see is McPhee put some weight back on, and play with his hand in the dirt, and dominate O-Linemen who couldn't handle his quickness in his rook season...

Yup, that's my point as well...  :)

Sure, but its not like JJ had very much success in a Kubiak led system. JJ is coming back to this team as a ST player and a very rare WR. If we bring in even just one WR, via the draft or FA, Jacoby becomes like the 5th option in the passing game, which is a position that figures to see very, very little playing time on the offense.
