Really psyched that we got JJ back!  And impressed that he turned down more money to come back to Baltimore....can't wait for some more endzone dancing this season!!

Aaron Wilson @RavensInsider 11m

Jacoby Jones on taking less to remain with Ravens: 'I don't know, man. I'm not that good at math.'

Hilarious.  Hopefully Jacoby can continue working on his receiving skills (he did appear to improve last season).  There were quite a few catches where he didn't do his usual "punt catch" to grab the ball.  One that sticks out in my mind was 4th down towards the end of the Minnesota game (I think it was the final drive?) and he went up and snagged a bullet from Joe to get the first down.  Hopefully he can work with Torrey and Marlon to continue all of their growth as receivers.

The man has a Raven tattooed on his back, enough said!

Agreed. He and Art were my favorites last year. They both always give 100%.

Art was just hard worker and a good player with a great attitude. Totally agree with you and he earned his payday.

Art got 10 mill guaranteed. We wouldn't match that even though the entire contract wasn't that unreasonable. Plus we have other understudy players at that position that aren't terrible.

That being said, we are gradually going through cap money and haven't made much of a splash in free agency. Hoping that changes later in the week when Ozzie decides the suckers (Cleveland and Miami) burned through all their mad money. While I like our players we resigned, they were still only an 8-8 team even with Art and Graham. As of this moment we aren't a better team than we were in December. We are setting ourself up to get a few compensatory picks in a year.

Ravens didn't even make an offer to Jones and 10 million guaranteed is not all that much. We could have given a similar deal.

I guess there some belief  they can get the same production out of the defensive linemen  already present  or a player from free agency or draft.

I think the decision was made early that the bulk of free cap room would go to the O, though I sure hope they have room reserved for D. Smith.

Let me get this straight...this man just took less money to stay in Baltimore.  Is the most dangerous return man/deep threat potentially in the league.  Made some of the most clutch plays in a playoff run in history (see Denver, SB 47) and probably was deserving of SB MVP (no disrespect to #5).  While managing to net about 40 catches after missing a quarter of the season in 2013.  We pay Jacoby 3.5M per year, and some people have an issue with this or think it doesnt make our team better?  That is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard.

Having a player on your roster that can house a kickoff at any given moment is an unbelievable weapon to have at your disposal, especially on a team with a stingy defense.  I think most of us here realize that Jacoby does indeed make the Baltimore Ravens a better football club at the end of the day.  I am so stoked he is back in Baltimore, my favorite Raven!

Lets go Ravens!!

Well, it wasn't difficult to figure out who your favorite Raven is!

Dragonfly is indeed the most exciting player present each and every time he steps on the field.  I think most knock him for poor receiving technique, but he made great strides last year. As Harbs said, it looks like his best football is in front of him. We're fortunate to get him back.

I was driving in the car while listening to ESPN radio.  When they announced that JJ had been resigned, I shouted to the top of my lungs and did a Joe Flacco fist pump!  I was really disappointed when I came to the forums later on that day to see mixed reactions by this signing.  What has JJ done or not done, to warrant such negativity?  In that Denver game, he looked really, really good! Even after coming back from his injury, his return game didn't diminish.

JJ isn't a bruiser or a go-to guy. BUT, JJ is that dynamic guy!  He's the X factor that will create a miracle for you, when a miracle is all you have left to win/stay in the game.  Honestly, he's been Baltimore's secret weapon!

I think many people were worried it'd be an unfair contract and he'd be overvalued, but he got a great deal

Just a forum being a forum - whenever a guy signs with another team, there are some posters who talk about things like "oh my god what an important player, we can't replace him, the FO is clueless and let him sign for peanuts and now we'll be 4-12 because of stinginess" etc., and then whenever we sign somebody some posters (not necessarily the same ones) will talk about "oh my god look at how much money they wasted on this pathetic player, his other team cut him/didn't resign  him, they were smart and we're dumb, this season is doomed".

Some people just have a specific, sometimes extreme, view about a player or the dealings of the FO in general, and often these are the people who get on to a forum and post - actually I'd say most of us on this forum are more dedicated to following the daily events of the Ravens than the casual fan, which is why we post in the first place.  Most of us think Jacoby is a very good role player for what he does and got a fair deal that will keep him in Baltimore for the next few years, so I wouldn't take the few opinions of the more unsure fans too seriously.  I suspect the fan base as a whole is happy Jacoby is back.

not the point..We need to make the most of this cap. Jacoby jones isnt going to make us better. We havent addressed FS or Center.

We need a difference maker.

Jones was and has been one for us. If he hadn't been injured by a teammate last year he might have put up some nice status

Jacoby Jones is a playmaking returner who can fill in at receiver in a pinch, but he doesn't have the skill set to be a starting wide receiver.

I also don't understand why anyone thinks our corps of Dennis Pitta, Torrey Smith, Marlon Brown and Steve Smith is a group that needs to be urgently upgraded before our offensive line. Not even Usain Bolt is getting open if Flacco has two seconds to throw and can't step up in the pocket.

Not sure what specific posts you're referring to, but my take on the situation is that while we need more impact players on the line, our receiving corps is only going to get better if we add a dynamic playmaker - we have a bunch of average to above average starters, but not an elite, top shelf weapon.  Adding a "good" receiver or TE won't help as much as adding one of the best from this class, basically.

Right now the most important position on the line, LT, is filled by Monroe, and we have an elite RG in Yanda.  There are not elite guards like that Stanford guard DeCastro who came out with Luck - so there are not any players worthy of taking in the first round.  And we haven't met with any first round type picks - we've met with Gabe Jackson, Morgan Moses, Chris Burnette - guys who would probably be day 2 draft picks.  We need a RT, a LG if KO isn't healthy, and a veteran center to come in with Gino (none of the draft's centers are IMO any better than Gino).  All three of those positions will probably be filled either with FAs or mid-round draft picks.  So back to our first round pick, 17 overall, I'd look at maybe one of those FS, maybe a d-lineman that slides, or one of those 3 tight ends, because you can get an elite prospect at a position, whereas o-line you really aren't (I don't really think the Stanford LT counts, because he'd have to change positions and I don't qualify that as being a "sure thing 10+ year starter" type of situation).  So while I expect at least 2-3 linemen to be drafted, I don't see it as being a first-round consideration.

If catching the ball and making plays isn't the skill set to be a starting wide receiver, then I don't know what is. He even made improvements on a lot of aspects of his game. Short/mid catches, catching style, route running.

Agreed. The point that Jacoby lacks WR skills and technique is getting old. He made some great catches last year(not just home run balls) and played well in what was a dysfunctional offense caused by horrible O line play. He is greatly undervalued by some.
