Ravens re-sign WR Jacoby Jones - 4 years

271 posts in this topic

Agree 100%. This contract wasn't that bad, but it should've been less since you can't rely on Coby to be anything more than a kick returner/situational deep threat.

The contract isn't bad at all.  The guaranteed money is very low.  Most of the money is in base salary.  If something happens and we want to move on, we can do so with a minimal impact on our cap.

He may not have been our most pressing priority this offseason, but how can you say that a player of his talent will not improve the team? Do you seriously think we would have gone to the Super Bowl without him, or won last year's Vikings game without him?

past tense. Use the eye test and judgment. if flacco messes up for the next 2-3 years are you going to keep on brining up the 11-0 ? I hope not

ravens need to know when to move on. With boldin they shouldnt have. With a guy like jacoby ...another story

my point is he isnt that good. Hes an average receiver but a great returner. guess what..they have sell by dates and its usualy 30

Stop being in denial. We have all complained about our recieving core being average and jones is the epitome of that

Im not in denial. And you and your posts are one of the main reasons so many of the regulars dont frequent this place often anymore. Is FA over? Is JJ our last signing? Was he signed for $10M+ guaranteed? Is he ONLY costing somewhere around $2M in cap this year? Will he likely be a difference maker in a few games? Is he dynamic and a game changer?

Sheesh!

I thought the Ravens fanbase was in agreement that JJ is a good piece on our roster, guess I was wrong. Didn't know he had so many 'doubters'.

I just realized we did have someone better on our roster. Marlon Brown. As awful as Brown is, he was still better than Jacoby and was the #2 over him. Ozzie dropped the ball on this one. That's all there is to say here.

First year UDFA WR awful and Ozzie dropped the ball. Cute and brilliant!

Dude 14 mil. for 4 years is nothing. You act like we're paying him 10 mil. per year to mow the lawn. He has made so many bigplays for us, he's one of the key reasons we won the SB, he is a game changer who can score a TD week in week out and make bigplays happen. And you're complaining about paying him 14 mil. for 4 years? Punters make more than that! This is a bargain.

The "doubters" are merely spouting what came out of Houston fans' mouths after we acquired him. He got hurt the first game of the season so he never had a shot as a #2 WR here. By the time he was back, Marlon had made a mark & they weren't going to take field time away from him.

The man makes things happen. He's a big play guy and the cap hit is reasonable. People are silly.

so can we make improvements to our roster now . as we stand our team is WORSE than last year. Mack please? we are running out of options. Its clear FS is now a hopeless situation . Clemons is average and no ball hawk.

yeah but hes 30 and you know it can just go in an instant.

Well, I guess that means we will be enjoying his services until that day comes

First year UDFA beats out 7+ years Vet for #2 job. Ozzie chooses to retain 7 year vet and give him more than vet minimum.

24 hours into FA. Calm down.

When organizing contracts, teams use a combination of what a player has already done with what they can do in the future. There does come a point where that gets old, because I don't think anyone here will say that we should bring back Lewis was he was the DPLOY in 2000 and 2003. Yet JJ's production over the last two years is recent enough that it can be used as an argument. If a team did not use the past as a reference when working contracts, how would it know who do sign and to what?

Beats out? JJ got hurt. You did know that, right?

Some of y'all need to stop.

Id still rather have Holiday for the vet min and draft some 7th round speed freak to do the same thing on deep threats. Would literally be no different.

JJ was drafted by Houston in 2007: 3rd round.

Sorry, one of the main reasons we won the SB and could have easily won the MVP.

How can a SB winning QB not win the MVP after he played lights out? I stand by it. Your comment was silly. Jacoby is a great kick returner though and I'm glad he's back.

Let me ask you. Would you pay anyone who solely returns kicks, no named Devin Hester, this kind of money? I don't think so. So why would we give to Jacoby. You can't use past performance as a reason because your paying him for future services. You basically have to negate all his performances as a returner since Trindon Holiday ( a returner of equal caliber is on the market and would likely take the minimum). So given his accomplishments as a receiver would you pay him this money?

Jacoby has made tremendous improvements as a receiver. I saw him get the ball in a way even Torrey.didn't at times.

Everyone should stop looking at the total amount and look at the guaranteed amount.  That's really all that matters.  It's very cheap and team friendly.  As I've said before, if he loses his speed after 2 years, we can cut him at very little cost.  I'm willing to bet the deal is very backloaded in anticipation of such event.  He'll be cheap for the next 2 years.

If this signing was for Wide Receiving purposes then I dont like it..I dont wanna see any receiver out there from last year besides torrey.

But ive watched for 2 years how Jacoby has changed games as a returner...and for that alone hes worth a contract.

You would think fans who lived through Billy Cundiff would know better than to devalue the importance of STs.

We are paying him inline with what other #3 recievers make. Except, those #3 are not in the same universe as a return man as JJ.

Yep. If you understand how contracts work you'd know that he is actually coming very cheap.
