Ravens re-sign WR Jacoby Jones - 4 years

So glad we brought him back. Yes he's primarily a returner, but he is a TRUE gamechanger. I can count at least 5 games we lose without him since he's gotten here.

Great to hear. JJ has done so much for this team, and I hope he can retire a Raven. People like him are why I follow this team.

You're crazy. He's arguably the best kick and punt returner / deep threat in the league.

Lol. Scratch punt returnere and deep threat and I can agree with you. He's a great kick returner. But that's it. Can't rely on him on more than that.

going to be honest here..he wasn't a big requirement.

He only won a couple games for us but i guess that means nothing.

Waste of money. Trindon Holiday would have taken a lot less to fill the same role. Smh

Tindon Holiday has never had the ball in his hands outside of returning kicks and punts. Jacoby is better than him at kick returns , probably not punts. Jacoby is very dangerous deep threat despite body catches. Same role pssh.

Yeah just a 109 Return and a 56 yard TD in the superbowl, many game-winning or game changing TD returns and dynamic deep bombs.

You aren't seriously saying you want Jacoby on the field as a receiver?

Trindon Holliday can return kicks and punt but he isn't a wide receiver. Holliday had a one reception in 2013

Good news! From what I'm reading his 2014 cap hit will be around $1.875 (based off best guestimates of the breakdown of the guaranteed money).

Would have hated to see Jacoby go.

Now, if we could manage to keep D. Smith - not too shabby.

Neither is Jacoby. If we had anyone on our roster who was decent other than Torrey, Jacoby would be bumped to third possibly 4th on the list easily. When we had Boldin he wasn't starting and given opportunity, he has shown nothing to prove he is capable of starting. He is a deep threat/return man and thats it. A purely situational player.

The past is the past.

Ha, okay. I will no longer judge anyone on what they've done and what I feel they can continue to do.

not the point..We need to make the most of this cap. Jacoby jones isnt going to make us better. We havent addressed FS or Center.

We need a difference maker.

As a 3 or 4 heck yeah! He has already made numerous clutch plays as WR besides NFL teams know who this guy and what he does. Nobody is gonna let him get behind the defense which opens up the middle and if they do let him get behind them, and it only takes once BAM 40+yrds.

I didn't know an all-pro KR wasn't a difference maker.

Truth .. And I'm very happy Ozzie paid him as such. I think that's a very fair contract. He's still got the speed to return kicks, and if you keep him fresh on the sideline he can come in on offense and blow the top off when the situation calls for it.

I do have slight reservations to our signings so far.  Don't get me wrong, locking up Monroe and Jacoby is a great step in the right direction (specifically Monroe), but as it stands, we are fielding pretty much the exact same team as last year.  I would love to see us make a move for Mack to solidify our offensive line, then focus on a receiving threat and replacements to Art/increase defensive depth in the draft.

16.00: RE-SIGNING! They often say the best business you can do is bringing back one of your own. The Ravens are adhering to that model and bringing back Jacoby Jones on a four-year deal according to the team website. The dynamic kick returner was given a chance to be the teams number two after they traded away Anquan Boldin but just wasn’t up to the job and ended up in a job share that saw undrafted free agent Marlon Brown feature on 248 more snaps  (though he did miss four games). If the team upgrade their receiver position he might even see a decrease on those snaps numbers, instead focusing more on returning where he was our seventh ranked one on the year.

per PFF

That should highlight how much Jacoby was overpaid

Id still rather have Holiday for the vet min and draft some 7th round speed freak to do the same thing on deep threats. Would literally be no different.

Agree 100%. This contract wasn't that bad, but it should've been less since you can't rely on Coby to be anything more than a kick returner/situational deep threat.

my point is he isnt that good. Hes an average receiver but a great returner. guess what..they have sell by dates and its usualy 30

Stop being in denial. We have all complained about our recieving core being average and jones is the epitome of that

That's just silly.

Sorry, one of the main reasons we won the SB and could have easily won the MVP.

Jacoby looked good at WR prior to his injury. You could see the improvement. Once he came back from injury, he even began to catch with his hands instead of making baskets.

The man is a playmaker. Whether it's a return or a catch, he makes things happen. Don't know why you'd be down on that. Especially since his cap hit will be minimal.

He may not have been our most pressing priority this offseason, but how can you say that a player of his talent will not improve the team? Do you seriously think we would have gone to the Super Bowl without him, or won last year's Vikings game without him?

I just realized we did have someone better on our roster. Marlon Brown. As awful as Brown is, he was still better than Jacoby and was the #2 over him. Ozzie dropped the ball on this one. That's all there is to say here.
