San Francisco 49ers trades?

5 posts in this topic

How do the San Francisco 49ers make these late round trades for decent players. They give a conditional seventh round pick for Jonathon Martin in 2015, but only if he make the team. That seems like a great deal. They only give a sixth round pick for Boldin, the deal of the century. They give a sixth round pick for an OK backup quarterback in Blaine Gabbert. I think Jim may be able to get Blaine to play better away from Jax. It seems like they are making some good value trades lately and really helping to add pieces to their team.

Because all of the baggage that comes with Johnathan Martin. Im sure Patrick Willis and company are thrilled  to have a player who will tell Jim on them if they call him names or poke fun at him.

And Blaine Gabbert will be their backup or 3rd string QB....and that is nearly overdoing it, I sure as hell wouldn't trust Gabbert to come in and win games if Kaepernick gets injured. I don't know if he has ever won a game in his ;life.

It makes a ton of sense.  The 49ers are stacked with draft picks.  They can afford to lose some.  There's a good chance that the guys they would have drafted with those picks would have been cut anyway.  Obviously Martin has the whole bullying fiasco, but he's probably a good 6th or 7th lineman that they wouldn't get out of the pick that they may or may not give up.  Gabbert is a little more questionable, but Harbaugh does know how to work with QB's, and as a backup, I don't see a problem with the move.

As you said, it's all in the value.  Other teams wouldn't give anything up because they don't have the luxury to take on that risk. The 49ers are so deep almost everywhere that they can afford to make these types of moves.

Questionable trades but Harbaughs familiarity with Martin might be Martins only hope. I agree with rmw's assessment of Gabbert but he's usually the butt of all my QB jokes. Him and Sanchez.
