[News] Ravens Re-Sign Tackle Eugene Monroe

Time to focus on Smith and maybe Nicks. from what I've heard Nicks hasn't had hardly any attention yet, he could end up being very cheap.

Stop making it sound like the Ravens stole from Monroe. They didn't. The fact is Ozzie refused to be backed in to a corner and over pay. Welcome aboard Eugene. Your a rich man and we are all very happy. Sounds like a good contract for all involved.

Ozzie would be terrific POKER player.

Yes I agree, but then again the 49ers traded a 6th round pick for Blaine Gabbert so maybe Ozzie could have gotten a little more than a 6th for Anquan Boldin :)

It also didn't hurt that the three other teams on the market who were even interested in a LT had already come to "wink wink" contract agreements with the other three players available.

He was the last to sign his deal, so he essentially had to take whatever we offered him, or risk going to a dry market and getting far less.

It was a gamble that Ozzie made, and the gamble paid off.

Any idea where this puts us with our cap situation and how much do we figure we need to set aside for draft? Basically... How much money do we have to spend?

Next thing to do is re-sign Jacoby Jones. We haven't had such a great return man since Jermaine Lewis.

I'd rank that about 5th or 6th on the priority list... and that might be a bit high on my part.

I don't see where Gabbert's and Boldin's could even compare,... but don't bother responding! Unimportant today!

We lost Art Jones (as expected) but this ain't a bad day in Charm City!

My sphincter is relaxed! :229031_rofl:

Too early to tell. We don't know the exact contract details for Monroe. I'd set aside $3-5m for draft picks, so we are probably somewhere in the $15-20m range to spend after the Monroe deal.

Everyone talked about the Ravens making a splash in free agency but it seems they are splashing about in their own pool. Locking up Monroe and working on signing Daryl Smith is critical (funny how they are "far apart", I remember hearing that about Monroe). Anyway, for the hopefuls who expected to hear that Byrd or Edelman or Steve Smith would be the center of Ozzie's focus are as disappointed as I am. Darn media for building up my hopes :)

It's amazing how well the FO plays their cards. We are unbelievably lucky to have one which approaches FA level-headed and prevents overspending. Drafting well and paying players what they deserve all while maintaining a good mix of team-leading veterans and developing young players...this is a stabile franchise at it's finest. Take notes Oakland.

Darn, the enemy (Steelers) just signed Michael Mitchell Safety from the Panthers, one of the top safeties in free agency. We will see him at least 2 times a year. Doggone it I wanted to watch him at least 16 times a year.

I don't see us making a big splash in free agency, if we do go after a receiver i'm hoping for either Golden Tate or Andre Roberts. My guess is the FO is looking at the draft and Daryl Smith right now, not much else.

My bad mendi looks like Monroe was ranker #2 just behind Byrd. Still a Pretty big splash though wouldn't you agree?

I am so happy we have some nice cap room now for some more signings. I am pretty excited to see who is next!

Great news about Monroe. JJ is an important deal to make now. We need to pay someone to do what JJ does, why not pay him, he's a RAVEN, for sure? The last big mistake, I remember (maybe selectively) is him fumbling the game away in the playoffs, playing for Houston, giving Baltimore the victory, in essence.
