Ravens Re-sign LT Eugene Monroe - 5 Years

215 posts in this topic

Pretty crazy that a franchise LT got only $1M more per year than Pitta.

I'd reverse it and say it's crazy that Pitta got $1 M less than a franchise left tackle. I think they over-payed, but with the rising cap, I can't complain too much

ozzie of you pull this off I will never question you again.

Still he should put an offer so even if the browns match they wouldn't have enough for Revis.

More like this is the first time Ozzie has had cap space to work with to sign big name players. Ozzie is even more dangerous when he has cap room to work with!

30 year old Branden Albert: 5 yrs/46 million: 9.2 per year.

26 year old Eugene Monroe: 5 yrs/37.5 million: 7.5 per year

Ozzie, you're the man.

I didn't realize Albert was already 30 - that deal is basically for the end of his career.

Just a joke. Sure we can't afford him now

Ozzie just signed Monroe for 7.5 per year and made a cap hit of 3.2. You really doubting what he can do?

Well, $19mil guaranteed, Pitta got $12m I believe

Pitta got $16M.  Not too much of a difference overall.

Holy Crap. I know I was ok with letting him go because I thought he was going to be pushing over 10 mil per season. I suck again. That said at least I never bashed Ozzie, I as many have known the dude is the best there is.

I get goose bumps thinking that if his cap number is about 5 mil (should be close to that) than that means we are still playing with about 15 mil in space. So what that basically says is Mack is a realistic possibility. I am perfectly fine with a  line that looks like

Monroe-KO-Mack-Yanda- Anyone...(Antonio Richardson maybe ? ) Next year everyone should feel pretty cozy with what talent wise is the best O line in the game or at least very close. If we can get a contributor at receiver and a semblance of a running game we could do some real damage.

If Monroe's cap hit is only $3.2 this year, I'd still be wary of signing Mack to a long term deal - which we would need to do to steal him from the Browns.  Still have to watch future years w/ Joe's contract exploding after 2015...

Wow, did we luck out! Alex Mack, Steve Smith, Owen Daniels, Eric Winston to come!

Draft Clinton-Dix or Mike Evans, and we're pretty much set. Just need to get a better run defense going - it'll be difficult without Art Jones.. no matter how good Sizzle will be next year.

yeah but damn ozzie is the man also

#Ravens aren't done fixing their offensive line. Could put together an offer for C Alex Mack that the #Browns can't match.

I have to see the structure of that deal.  Not sure how browns could match it without "Wins" being in it.

The cap is expected to go up at least $10 million per season through 2016

Front load that one, especially if the Browns get Revis or Byrd.

Only 3.2 million! Wow they have a ton of money to play with and sure aren't finished upgrading the O Line, have plenty of money for pretty much everything else including big name receivers, tight ends, man they have lots of options and lots of cap money :)

"The Browns designated their two-time Pro Bowler as their transition player, meaning he's guaranteed to make $10.039 million in 2014. Teams can begin making offers for Mack Tuesday at 4 p.m. when the free agent period opens and the league year begins. The Browns will then have five days to match."

This is confusing to me - so he will make 10 mil in 2014 but does it matter how its paid out, can subsequent years be lower, no way you're paying a center that much... what kind of numbers would we be looking at? Like, what is a comparable contract you certainly can't give him more than your franchise LT...
