Rolando McClain comeback?

390 posts in this topic

Bring the guy in.

If he has cleaned up his act, then we could have a nice rotation.

A good team is defined by depth and starters....

A good rotation is important

I read the full article in Carroll County Times and I just had this premonition. I am generally a very trusting type, but after reading the article I just felt that this Rolando McClain will make our team the feared Ravens defense of old!

I also believe that Kapron Lewis will add great depth to our D-line and will be a stud for us. With Ngata, an improved and young Williams, Tyson and Lewis Moore, Suggs and Doom pass rushing and with Rolando and Daryl Smith rounding off the front 7, how can anybody run against us?? All we need in the draft is a great free safety in the first round and we are set on defense. It is likely we will get a very good RT in the second round to anchor our offensive line too. How can any team really beat us?? The only way we lose is if we beat ourselves like last year! I am excited for Rolando as the comeback player of the year!

I was ready, and very intrigued to see what he did with his shot last year...now that he took some time off to hopefully better himself, maybe we can have a strong ILB corps. Hope he chooses to stay with us and we give him another opportunity.

Great news. If he's motivated and ready to resume his career, I'm all for it. We need a big MLB to help against the running game. Especially with the squeelers adding Blount. He is a really talented guy, can't wait for TC reports!!!!

Why not? He has a positive upside, and no risk to us. We need depth at his position and if the young man figured out his life he should get a shot. Key word, he wants to be a "Raven". Give him the chance. if not what? We do we lose? Ray Rice? Let's be Ravens here! IMO!!

He can come and challenge A.brown for the 2nd mlb job and sub in for run plays. He is a more impact tackler than both d.smith and a.brown

He lost 6 pounds from his last reported weight. Seems like Harbaugh should be OK with having Rolando back - he said "I want him only if he worked hard". So, there you go. I'd sign him tomorrow.

Give him a shot, if he doesn't make it get rid of him, plain and simple. It's a no risk signing as he basically makes no money (salary cap wise). I don't expect him to crack our roster though. He can't play special teams and he's been out for too long, not just playing but training and all that as well. He's not gonna be able to beat out a 4-5th round rookie LB or some of the undrafted free agents, they're all excellent special teamers and that's the one thing you need to bring with you if you're gonna be a backup linebacker. But who knows, if the lights do come on he could potentially be a starter again at some point, so let's see what he does.

We do need a big hitter in the middle. If he has what it takes, he'd be a perfect guy to rotate with Arthur and Daryl

according to CC times:
http://www.carrollcountytimes.com/blogs/sports/ravens/rolando-mcclain-i-m-preparing-as-if-i-m-going/article_65a3e15c-bb9f-11e3-b915-0019bb2963f4.html#.Uz4YofRVWso.twitter

But at one point recently, he was working out in front of his Alabama home when one of his two sons was dropped off after day care.

Shortly after getting dropped off, McClain’s son was watching his father get ready to go through a ladder drill when he said, “Dad, I miss watching you play football.”

McClain went through the ladder drill and then asked his son what he had said. His son’s response: “I want to watch you play football.”

McClain didn’t really respond. He finished his workout and went inside to shower. But after showering, he went down to his basement within which he has several pieces of memorabilia hanging up on the walls.

Once he was down there, the same son that was outside with him walked up to a framed picture of McClain during his time with the Oakland Raiders and repeated what he had said outside, “Dad, I want to watch you play football.”

“That was my sign,” McClain said during a phone interview with the Times Thursday. “From then, I just took it serious, worked out a little bit harder, and I’ve been training and preparing as if I’m going to go back.”

Edit: Didn't see the other topic.  Clearly merge.

That's cool. Hopefully he's in the right frame of mind and committed

If so, then our LB rotation could be amazing

always good to have options, I'll be happy to see us give Mcclain another shot, he just better be willing to put in the work and act like a human being if he wants any shot at coming back.

I was a huge fan of his signing last year. Hopefully Ozzie and Harbaugh will give him another chance, because I'm a guy that loves the comeback stories. I actually wanted us to sign Jamarcus Russell too last year, but that never happened haha.

It would be nice for him to return even more motivated. I'd definitely support his return to football. He'd give us some great LB depth at the very least and could turn into a compensatory pick next year if he has a good year.

The talent is thier, the Ravens have the structure. Just about everyone gets worse or doesnt grow up as a player in Oakland. A change of scenery may do him wonders, he is worth the risk at his cost. He has lots to prove. No lose situation for Ravens or Rolando, good spot to be in with veterans around him.

He would be the perfect compliment to brown, mcclain the run busting beast and brown the speedy coverage and blitzer.

So long as he is still in football shape, there is no downside. His contract if very beneficial to the Ravens.

It is hard to tell from that article. It didn't mention a lot about what he was doing to better himself (except for a blurb about being classes with 19 year olds). Most of the article was about him missing football, his football friends, and his work outs.  Only time can tell.

No thanks!

He was offered his what 3rd, 4th opportunity last year when the Ravens offered a contract. He promptly blew it.

good riddance
