Rolando McClain comeback?

390 posts in this topic

We shouldn't have any hard feelings toward him.

1.) We invested literally NOTHING into him

2.) Not like we were expected to heavily rely on him

3.) It's not like he did it in the middle of TC or something. He did it before workouts even started.

4.) I certainly wouldn't want someone on the team if their heart isn't into it.

I really do wish nothing but the best for Rolando and hope he finds something else that ignites the passion inside of him.

I agree

Well better to get this bit of drama out of the way now before it becomes (more of) a distraction later.  I hope he figures out what productive thing he would like to do with his life.

I'm crushed by this :(

I thought for sure he would show up clear minded and ready to work.

Sounds like me at 24. It's just the childish irresponsible part coming out of him. When he turns 28-30ish he will hate himself

I would hope for him that his indecisiveness only applies off the field, lol. Anyway, if it doesn't work it doesn't work. Good luck McClain

Well he's not playing anymore is he? So why does it matter?

I would be willing to stand with you on this one.  I have kids...  Some take longer to decide what they want to do with their lives...  My husband says it all the time...  "Who knew it would take you 10 years longer to grow up"...  But you did, beautifully.....Who knew!

Everyone "matters"...  just differently in different people's minds.

What happened between the time he was a 'cant-miss', top 10 football prospect, top program athlete to him becoming the guy who gets arrested and makes scatterbrained decisions?

The money? He got a big deal with $23M guaranteed before the rookie cap was set. The Oakland environment? I know it's supposed to be bad but a lot of guys deal with it.

What I meant was that he would no longer be suiting up on the field, therefore the question is irrelevant.

Ok, I get that...  I just hate when people give up on people because they don't fit "their" need at that moment.  Just a "you don't matter" statement breaks my heart.  People are good for different things; at different times; and for different reasons...  I have a challenged child..  who just recently got her proverbial stuff together...

He's a child and doesn't know passion, hard work and devotion.

I don't know about that.  He played and excelled at Alabama.  You can't just show up with Saban and be the starting MLB every week.

He just lost his desire.  When you lose that you can't get it back and you can't know that until you've tried.

I don't hate him for trying to come back to see if he still loved football.  Its not like theres a minor league we could have sent him to to see first hand if he was willing to muck it out in the minors.  Playing in places like Hannibal or Jamestown or Haggerstown to see just how much he wanted to be back.  Football is a different animal that way.

I also don't agree with saying that the person doesn't matter. Everybody screws up at some point.

Well shame on him for not wanting to play Football and choosing other life options. He should be ashamed for making an adult choice.

I know, right. How pathetic. Football is more important than his kids, eductation or continuing to get his life together.

^^ LOL at my mispelling of "education"....fail...

Also like how you got negged for stating what SHOULD be obvious to anyone over the age of 11. If the guy thinks other things are more important to him than football, I say more power to him. I wish I were able to retire at 24 and enjoy life.

It is a question (that I really dont care enough to get an answer to) that has been in the back of my mind...reading some of these ridiculous judgmental comments makes me wonder if some of these people have ever overcome any real adversity in their lives. There is no question that up until a year ago, Rolando was a failure off and on the field. However, all indications since his first retirement indicate that his life has finally started going down the right path. Tells me he is starting to grow up as a person.

Anyway, glad to hear about your child; every parent worries about making sure they raise their children the right way. The hard part is accepting the fact that no matter what you teach them, they ultimately make their own decisions. All we can do is stand by them; continue to be a parent to them, especially when they are screwing up

Haha I got negged? Oh well, I guess people care more about there football team rather than life. I love the Ravens but I know the difference between a game and life.

He was a complete and utter bust, let's not act like he had a choice of either becoming an all time great or do something else with his life. He gave it a shot in Oakland and he was awful. He knows it that's why he's moving on, that's why he's not gonna look back 5 years from now and then say "shoulda woulda coulda". If he felt like he had what it takes to be something special he'd still be playing. He's not gonna regret moving on because he tried his best and he just couldn't do it. He failed in Oakland after all those years, he gave it another shot with us and then he failed his conditioning test and that probably was enough for him to now move on and do something else.

Like I said last week. I give him props for changing his lifestyle. NFL wasn't meant to be for Rolando. GL to him IRL and please no more Rolando thread from here on out.

Its not a matter of choosing to walk away from football (again), its THE way he's going about it. "Im gonna retire...no, I wanna play and Im in the best shape of my life...I performed pathetically so I just wanna retire again". Ha, okay dude. Buh bye!

"Good place", "good place", "good place" all we've heard him trying to 'achieve' since he got here.

Sometimes I hear that and it just sounds like an excuse / place-holder for someone who has no purpose (or wants to pretend they do). Maybe I'm being harsh but what has he been other than useless noise?

You are killin' this cat B!  If the man says that he is in a "good place" (whatever that means to him) then so be it!  The worst thing that the Ravens need is a player that is "physically" on the team but not "mentally" there.  He is a grown man!  Let him walk if that is his choice.  The Ravens have bigger fish to fry!

Maybe he wanted to come back and see if he had the desire and realized he didn't.

Yup, agree 100% Fly!

I honestly feel this is the best thing for the Ravens because I didn't think he was ready to return.  As for Rolando, I hope he gets his life back on track, because I still stand by what I said earlier in that I think he still has a long way to go to towards facing his demons and getting his head on straight.  His indecisiveness and lack of commitment is indicative of issues that still remain. It may mean nothing at all, but considering what most people mean when referring to "the other side"  the comment he put out today on his twitter is slightly disturbing:

Rolando McClain @RMcClain205 Follow

Hopefully I see most of y'all on the other side one day. Until then...

I hope he seeks professional help again, and sticks with it this time.

This is a good post. If McClain honestly does not feel ready to come back, that's fine, but he shouldn't waste other people's time with his crap.

Did he even come to Baltimore??

I believe that he came to Ravens HQs for a workout. He was late and did not do a very good job.
