We can probably expect to have Steve Smith and Owen Daniels playing for us this year. Why? Because both are RELEASED players. Ozzie & Co's favorite kind because it won't factor into draft pick compensation because released players don't figure into equation. Go Ravens!!! :-)

@Dwayne Watts from what i heard from Schefter, they might keep Steve Smith if they can't get a WR from the market. Not a lock to be released if he isn't traded. He is due $5 mil guaranteed regardless.

Not all WR's over 30 you can label "old". if they are crafty players that don't rely on speed to be productive, their ability lasts so much longer. Boldin and Smith fall into this category. Smith football wise is not old. he has good ball left in him.

If hes released, he's owed nothing from any other team outside of what they negotiate with him. His guaranteed money is paid by Carolina if he's released.

@rmcjacket23 thats what i meant which is the reason why there is a chance they might hold on to him. the panthers have to pay him the money so they have to weigh how much benefit they will get by releasing him.

Look for Owen Daniels to come to Baltimore it just makes to much since for him not to come here this could be good. Coming off injury he could come at a good price 2.

Daniels has officially been released, but at the moment, the Panthers are shopping for a trade partner for Smith. Now, if they don't find one, they may end up releasing him, but that's not official yet.

I think Daniels is a very likely target - given his history with Kubiak and since (I believe) he's considered a better run-blocking option than Pitta.

Smith would be an intriguing possibility ... depends on the money he'd command. I think the FO wants us to get young at that position, but we've got a lot of either open or dead slots on the WR corps and I think a guy like Smith could fit in and we could still be looking at a high draft pick for the position to work in over time.

can we get both Mack, and Monroe?

I would think if we went that route, there'd be little left for other moves that need to be made. The article termed it a "backup plan", although I'm not sure I understand how getting a center is a back up plan to losing your LT.

let Monroe go and hopefully get a 3rd rounder. Trade webby and a 3rd rounder for a 4th or 5th and unload webb's 10 million cap hit. Get Revis, Mack, and Steve Smith. Draft a tackle in the first, and wr in the 2nd. Get D Smith back if there's any money left. THIS WOULD BE EPIC. It would not only = another Lombardi, but straight dominance also. Revis and J Smith manning the corners...um.. yes please

Pettigrew is intriguing, a TE that can block AND catch. Lets' hope his asking price is low after a down year. I would love to see the FO pull some strings and land Monroe and Mack. A lot of people on here don't seem to appreciate a strong interior of the O line. Someone that can make the right call and help block up a double A-gap blitz on 3rd and long is critical.

If a columnist wants to say we are interested in Pettigrew that's cool but the 2009 draft should not even be apart of the discussion as for why he is valued as a player... He should be liked based on, how he has played thus far in his NFL career, injury history, cost relative to his position as a FA....

Monroe is definitely coming back. He has few alternatives because contrary to his or his agent's belief he wasn;t close to being in the top wants of teams other than the Ravens. I am disappointed that we have to go after Pettigrew which can only mean we aren't drafting a TE.

I think that our interest is more on the side of Owen Daniels than Pettigrew now. Just my opinion, but but apparently he has a great relationship with Kubiak. Everyone still beleives he has alot of good years left.

Perhaps, but it also appears to be in line with what the FO is thinking (or at least what they have said publicly).

I mean if you think about it logically... if the FO felt great about Brown and Mellette, why would we need another WR? Why tell the public you need one, when fans think we don't?

It would appear that Ozzie sees something fans don't, which should be surprising to almost nobody.

Not really... Everyone plays a certain role. Brown is a young player, why would you NOT want another proven comodity in ADDITION to Marlon. Take a look at the roster and tell me we dont need another WR.

The Texans released Owen Daniels.... with Pitta signed and Dickson on the way out the door... This may be a good fit. Daniels has always been productive, can help in the run game, gives us veteran depth and has a history with Kubiack!

I cant be the only one who wishes we could some how void Ray Rices contract and use that and some extra money to sign Revis... I know its not going to happen its just crazy to think about what we could do blitz package wise with Revis and Jimmy on the outsides with Webb in the slot. I think we would have the new legion of boom.

I am with you until signing revis, unless he is released we have to give up something to get him. Id much rather take the extra money to get Byrd as a FS then spend anything on Revis, cause theres no say in if he is the revis of old, or the broken revis. yea you can justify the buc's didnt use him like they should have. but come on he isnt worth 16mil a year

not in any specific order

Smith, Marlon,Mallette, McCluster, Rice if he can stay healthy and Draft Evans

Pitta/Daniels or Pedagrew

Yes, I was able to do this in Madden also.

Where it belongs.

Only chance id see smith working is if he kept his mouth shut, and took the league minimum to come over. Otherwise i see this as bad news

any Revis talk we can just end it wont ever happen, we would be more likely to see Byrd here today then Revis, especially considering we could get Byrd at almost half the price. Compared to revis's 16mil a year

Yes, but any receiver we get is coming in as a slot type WR to make tough. Think of it this way... they want to find a younger Boldin.

So if Boldin was on the team in 2013, what percentage of the time do you think Marlon Brown would have been on the field? Its entirely conceivable that he would have been a gameday inactive for the majority of the season.

I agree that everybody plays a role, which is why I identified Brown as a "role player". His role will be situational, and in particular, probably as a depth player with upside in the red zone.

That's not the kind of description you give to a #2 WR. That's the kind of description you give to a #3 or 4 WR.
