[News] 2014 Ravens Free Agency Rumor Mill

790 posts in this topic

The teams to beat that're going to be in our way ultimately are Denver and New England and both are beefing up their secondaries. Smith was an absolute must have after signing Pitta as a second matchup nightmare for the third CB while Pitta outwits the OLBs and safeties.

On the flip side, we absolutely need a veteran but still fresh nickle CB to fill the void the Corey Graham left. Peyton and Tom Terrific absolutely carve up defenses just by outnatching their slot guys against the opponents mediocre third CBs. And if not a CB, then at least an agile third safety that can cover man but also provide run support when those guys check to runs with their stout backs.

To Play Denver and New England Ravens would have to make the playoffs. Seriously its going to hard unless ther is some serious training done on the Offensive Line and now the secondary. Drew Brees, Luck, Rivers, and Ben are going to carve them up.

No! Not Guion! Melton! Lol He's going to be so much better! I don't know that, I'm not the GM of the Baltimore Ravens. I just like Melton. But where's all the news about Alex Mack? That's who I'm most worried about right now. If we sign him then I don't really care who gets signed after that cause what's left for now is depth, not much starter material.

This was an 8-8 team that was a few plays away from a sixth straight berth inspite of having a decimated o-line. I honestly think the FO wholeheartedly believes that if Kelechi stayed healthy and they didn't lose Jensen and Wagner (all guys under contract for a while to come) they go to the playoffs. Sure they'll never pass up an affordable decent lineman, but ultimately we build to beat the Steelers for the North crown, and get depth to stave off NE and DEN in January.

As long as Juan Castillo's fineses, zone ballet dream is alive it doesn't matter who plays defense because "they" will be on the field too much. Joe is on his back too much and we can't run the ball to keep Peyton,Ben and Tommy Terrific,Drew Brees,Ryan off the field. CB? No! O-line coach that will use the talents of the 9 o-linemen Ozzie has signed on the present roster.

Just to summarize for you...

With Castillo = zone blocking

Without Castillo = zone blocking

Understand?

There is no news about Mack because he's not going to be a Raven. We don't have the money to sign him, and he was never a realistic option anyway.

The only reason he was ever even brought up as a pipedream was IF we didn't re-sign Monroe, which we did.

Why the need for another DT? We have holes at the moment with no names to fill them. We just drafted Brandon Willams, let the man have a shot.

Sucks the rumors quieted down real fast after the smith signing. We were linked to about 1000 players it seemed like, now i don't hear a peep from anybody in the last 2 days. I'm surprised we haven't shown any interest in a C or FS yet.

could it be because we lost arthur jones and the return of terrence cody is possibly unlikely plus brandon williams is untested over a 16 game season.  hope we get this guy and im sure we draft one as well

i am in agreement that we need to bring in competition for gino either through free agency or the draft but like birk said "gino is the right guy for the job". i am hopeful that he is right. birk did not start till his 3rd year i believe and all players have their learning curve. we shall see!!

Yeah, we get him and will have no FS,TE, C, RT, and CB! The only DT I would draft is Aaron Donald. We have bigger holes to fill then DT/DE. Guess you forgot about Canty, and the 16 million dollar man Ngata. Who is our 2nd TE, the 3rd CB, the #1 FS, the #1 RT, and the #1 C? A lot of holes, and you can't fill them all with the draft! We need to spend are money wisely! And for Williams being unproven, we spent a 3rd rd pick on him! He deserves a shot! He did very well in the games he did play last year!

I would say the FO is content with Williams, Canty and Ngata as its starting D-line, with guys like Tyson and McPhee being used as depth.

If we add a DT, it would be mid-to-late round draft pick for depth, or a cheap veteran for depth.

I would like to see the Ravens draft a starting free safety because there are great leaders in the secondary on this team to help a rookie safety mature and get better as the season goes by. I keep hearing that Ravens might not want to have two young safeties starting, but there are preseason games and the NFL season is 17 weeks. So there would be plenty of time for a rookie safety to get comfortable with the defensive scheme. But anyway, I am a die-hard Ravens fan and I support whatever decision Ozzie Newsome and company makes.

We have a little over $9 Mil left after the draft picks apparently, we have enough to sign him and it would be worth it. We had talks with him after we re-signed Monroe and he's going on visits to teams soon. I guess he's just taking his time.

With our lack of attention (atleast from what I see, no one knows what the Wizard is up to) to FS in free agency Im starting to think thats gonna be our target in round 1 of the draft. Either Clinton Dix or Pryor WILL be there at 17, you're splittin hairs with those two so really wouldnt mind either of them

There is no way we draft a safety in the first round again. It just won't happen. They're either going for a skill position(WR, TE) or a RT possibly LB but there is simply no way we draft the same position as last year. We will have a veteran FS by the draft.

we should get shaun phillis for cheap. broncos released him and he was a sold DE for them. he could help fill the void that art jones created.

Its now way we are drafting a saftey in the first round. To pair Elam with a rookie FS would get us lit up. We will get a vet FS and we may draft a saftey but not until third round at least only becuase there are no game changin FS's in the draft really. The 1st round prospects are more SS suited or not as rangy as we need.

Ryan Clark would be a good pick up for a year to bring a vet presence to the Safety position, sans Ingehibo!

Pick up a FS BPA in a later round and groom him targeting 2015! What's the rush!

ill restate this We drafted a STRONG SAFETY, i wont be surprised and neither should anyone else if we Draft a FREE SAFETY in the first round only FS expected to go in round one is HA HA

We would be dumb to draft a late round safety, thats where our current safeties came from and obviously we dont have enough faith in them for any of them to start.

so again first round - FREE SAFETY

@Reed20Fence Pryor from Louville is a Strong Safety, drew lots of comparisons to Bob Sanders and how he played. When we draft our FS in the first round, look to Ha'Sean Clinton Dix to be called.

I have no problem with Ryan Clark for a couple year band aid FS, for the right price. I still prefer a O Line move so we only need 1 pick in the draft used for early on for O line 2nd or 3rd round. Centers Kyle Cook and De La Puenta are still out there.
