[News] 2014 Ravens Free Agency Rumor Mill

790 posts in this topic

Of course Smith is signing. Where else is he gonna go? There is less than a one in ten chance of Ozzie picking a defensive player in rd 1. Rumors of Aaron Donald and Cyrus are a smoke screen. No way. I think as soon as the pick is made everyone will go... yeah that's a good one. It will just make sense. And round two will fall into place and so will 3-5. I have no doubt this will be the best draft class in years for the Ravens.

You need to spend more time on this board; there will be 50% of the people on here saying " I would have picked so and so" or "that was a stupid pick, we need a so and so"

Smith has 4 or 5 other teams interested in him so I dont see him signing today and I think he will visit couple other teams just to see what he is worth to them. I dont think Ozzie is going to pay him tons so chances are he walks to another team. (If he wants money) If he wants a chance to play against his team and retire a raven with a chance of possibly getting to the superbowl then he might sign today for less money.

It must be frustrating for Oher. He seems to have a much higher opinion of his performance and value than the FO, pundits, and fans have of it.

Gets far more credit for the name on his jersey and the movie made about him than his on-field production deserves.

He will find a very soft market in FA.

Agreed. Maybe this experience will motivate him to be a better football player. He is young enough with the physical tools to succeed. Perhaps he just needs a wakeup call.

I would be happy if they signed Steve Smith & Alex Mack.....then I believe we could be strong going into the draft at that point....

Smith will still be owed $5 million from panthers....so I don't think it will be the question of money for this year..

I hope you dudes don't think that Darryl smith will be playing like that the whole 4 years

We won't expect him to ... Like the vast majority of NFL players, he will likely not see that last year of his contract ... unless he goes London Fletcher for us.

Smith is keeping his options open ... we're doing the same by maintaining interest in Edelman.

I agree, (IMO) he's already hall of fame caliber and has made his money....like T-Sizzle said....'' its all about them blood diamonds''

Ozzie said after we signed Monroe, that they were going to continue to fix the O-line in free agency. Haven't herd us connected with any O-lineman names with the exception of Mack, who I don't think we will be able to afford. We should be focusing on the O-line before WR. The draft is full of great WR's.

Monroe, K.O, Mack, Yanda, Oher

That could happen......if we had the amount of money the Raiders have in salary cap, which we don't. I don't see us going after Mack. He will be extremely expensive and the browns could probably match our offer. I do see us bringing in a Center, I just don't know who. RT will either come from the draft or someone already on the team, not Oher.

I agree on all of that. Mack might be the #1 Center but you are right that he will be too expensive. There are still a few good FA's out there.Has Green Bay's Center Evan Dietrich Smith signed anywhere yet?

Steve Smith only makes sense if he is brought in to mentor whatever wide receiver they intend on taking in the 1st round.

Otherwise, that's a pretty bizarre move. 35 year old wide receiver for 1 season?? Because you know these NFL contracts are never what they actually say they are.

Edelman has to be one of the most annoying players to watch. Whines and complains to the refs every play trying to get penalties. I really don't want to watch that all year. And Tom Brady was his quarterback so I really don't think he is all that great of a player for the price.

A few things to consider in the rebuilding of the line. Osemele can slide to RT and may be willing to do so. Him lined up next to Munroe and Yanda is pretty much a lockdown on that respective side. Also, we just don't know whether there is hidden potential in Ricky Wagner and Ryan Jensen from last year because both were hurt. Not only will guys be healthier, we'll actually have quality depth unlike last year when the line was decimated by injuries.

All that said, we stil definitely definitely definitely need help at the center position. Not adressing that will be absolutely inexcusable.

I think you are absolutely right. Now go look at the top wide receivers in the draft and see which one resembles Steve Smith the most. That could be the WR that the Ravens will be targeting in the draft. I have a hunch.

Well...I think his attitude and his play can be coached to a 6'5" player as well. Obviously he can't give that guy the chip that he has on his shoulder, but I think he can get in a guy's head regardless.

Just like Ray Lewis could ignite most players on defense. Steve Smith has been around since 2000 or 2001 or whatever. He should get respect from every kid at his position....

Whats stopping us from getting both?

Because I think if we get Steve Smith that would prevent us from getting a very similar player. That's why I don't wan double s.

And we would have a lot of wideouts

are the ravens even showing any interest in Hakeem Nicks? cause really if we dont lock up steve i'd rather wait for the draft then sign edlebum. dam i probably dont mean that but i just dont think edlebum would work for us, but i could be wrong.
