[News] 2014 Ravens Free Agency Rumor Mill

790 posts in this topic

@IconicTester34 one thing you have to remember is never doubt Ozzie. I don't think Ravens have missed that much of course if Ravens had signed Jairus Byrd, DeMarcus Ware, Golden Tate, Eric Decker and so on would be awesome, but the Ravens ain't Yankees and Ravens have resigned some of their own players which is very good especially the Eugene Monroe signing was a great move that needs a elite GM to get that kind of deal done. Ravens don't have the biggest salary cap so it's better for Ravens to rely on the draft and sign bigger names on their terms.

So Colts are out of the center hunt with Phil Costa. So it's us against the Browns for Mack, but highly unlikely that we grab mack

"JamesA119 Graham is not worth the contract he is getting anyway. he was a 3rd corner, not irreplaceable. You can't pay everybody. We also have a GM named Newsome. Hes got this." {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} Well that's the problem. I like Ozzie, but there appears to be this blind faith in his decisions. What happened with Spears, and Huff in free agency last year? Cody, Kindle, Dickson etc., in the draft? How about always losing players in their prime? - Ellerbe, Redding, Jarret Johnson etc., I think all these years we got away with it because we had the "equalizer" Ray Lewis. The Ravens are not alone in this regard. The Patriots seem to get away with it too because of their equalizer - Tom Brady.

Am I the only one that finds it amusing that he references Ellerbe, Redding and Johnson as three play we let go in their "prime", yet in the few seasons since they've been gone, they haven't performed nearly at the level they did when they were with us?

I mean did you actually look and see what guys like Ellerbe, Kruger and JJ have done since they left this team?

I mean lets look at the "facts" shall we...

JJ: apparently let go in his "prime", where he had at least 50 tackles for us from 07 through 2011, yet in two years for SD, he's had 40 or less and recently agreed to take a paycut. Sounds like we let him go at his peak to me, not prime.

Ellerbe: after a grand total of one quality season in Baltimore, he had virtually the same amount of tackles with less sacks in Miami, while making nearly $7m a season. And the Dolphins feel so great about his skills that they are moving him from MLB to weakside LB, which is essentially a nice way of saying "you're not good enough to lead the LB core". Sounds more like peak than prime to me.

Kruger: After 14 sacks in two seasons as a viable player on this team, he took $8m to go get 4.5 sacks as the top pass rusher on a bad team. Sounds more like peak than prime to me.

I'm not even sure why Cory Redding's name is on this list, because he wasn't very good for us and he hasn't been very good ever since. The guy is two years from retirement. If he's your argument, you've got to try harder.

There's people that talk about facts and there's people that provide them...

Does anyone else feel like the ravens missed out on a lot of key players. they should of went for decker, now that he is gone they should try for Sanders. if they miss out on him we are gonna be in the same stage as last year. they also should go for alex mack and cromartie (because we lost graham). also they should look for players like branden spikes. not only is he young but if we dont get smith back we are gonna need an inside linebacker.

Judging from your being identified as "practice squad", perhaps you haven't been here long! Hoping you've been a Ravens fan longer - Welcome aboard! :banana1:

As per your comment about, "Ravens miss[ing] out on a lot of key players", remember, last year was an anomaly - we were dumping players and filling slots early! Not typical to say the least!

Ozzie usually gets many of his FA signings in August as other teams begin to, reluctantly, trim good veteran players who can be had for less than the early "FA Derby"! :sherlock:

I wouldn't sweat the pace that our FO is working at FA,... I'd say we're "Right on time and doin' fine"!  :oldwiseman:

And how would you do all that and still stay under the cap limit?

"NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported there obviously is mutual interest between Smith and the Ravens, but a source says nothing is imminent for Thursday." (nfl.com)

Smith himself said he plans on getting a few free dinners (i.e., visiting multiple teams). Hope it doesn't become a bidding war.

The Ravens need to get Quinton Demps or Kendrick Lewis from KC Chiefs for free safety and backup kick/punt returner to get back to the playoffs

Corey being gone just means the Ravens secondary just got more inexperience then ever. You think they look confused last year just watch the busted coverages this year. Just saying

So Webb and Jimmy are inexperienced? Graham was a solid player, but we still have our 2 best corners on the roster. We need a FS and our secondary will be fine.

I think if it becomes a bidding war for Steve Smith we wont lose we will simply back out.. Also, someone below mentioned Cromartie to replace Grahm.. Could be a classic Ozzie move late in FA.. I agree

Do you guys really think Cleveland will let us out bid them for Mack with the cap money they have and as bad as they hate us no way that's going to happen.

still put the offer to screw up their cap space

Anybody think we pick up Henry Melton for cheap? Beef up our D Line? Wilfork would be nice too, but a longshot.

Love to see us sign him. Never a dull moment when he's on the field. He'll bring w/him some emotion, which is badly needed. 'nuff said.

Why do you not like it? For me it depends on price of his service.

You're way off base with the Corey Redding assessment, Dude was an absolute stud for us and still is. Did I say stud, I meant DUD ! Just playing, you're right,  carry on. :bye:

@purplejay91, At the right price though. We can't give him exactly what he wants because it would be a boatload of money and that is why he was cut by the pats. Not to mention we can't overpay a guy who really injury prone and missed 12 games lat year.

Sweeten the deal with a lifetime supply of crab cakes :D. But seriously, like you said, he has been injured lately and is over 30 so shouldn't (hopefully not) cost that much. But thats logic, and the nfl is crazy so who knows!lol

It would be awesome if we picked up Wilfork (for the right price of course). One of my favorite non ravens (along with Steve Smith) in the league. One of the few Patriots that I like.

I concur, but.....how old is he? Does he still play 3 downs and does he give it his all? He was once the best NT in the league, but, so was albert Haynesworth.
