He's definitely a MIKE, not a WILL.

He played WILL with the Jags I believe and while he was a MIKE in our system, he is not a terribly great run stopper and could fit as a WILL for a 4-3 team.

Thinking about ideas for safety - I've got 2 possible ones. Sign a cheap vet and truly give Omar brown a shot...

Or similarly we could sign a corner and play Wevb at FS in the base package and slide him into the slot with Brown going to FS in nickel and sub packages.

Maybe look at a Cromartie or DRC since the Broncos signed Talib.

---

Completely unrelated, what type of deal do you think Revis, Peppers, and Ware will attract? Ware might be overkill but if explore any opportunity to add that level of talent for a decent price whether he's declining or not.

And before the negative comments come rolling in I'm not thinking we have a shot at Peppers or Revis, I'm truly just interested in what their value will be in this market. I can't see them getting huge contracts with so many teams having filled their need and I don't see either wanting to go to any of the teams with money at this point in their careers.

Again I don't think we're a potential landing spot, but I don't think they'll cost as much as some might think. Thoughts on the type of contract they might get?

Oh I thought you meant Will in the 3-4. Yeah, he was an awesome Will for the Jags

I think that the CB position could use an upgrade. We are most probably looking at the list of remaining safeties for a veteran to sure up the position along side of Elam.  I really have no idea in which direction the Ravens will go with the guys remaining on the board.  I do know that we will go with the best player at the right price.  It will be an exciting week as we fill in the gaps in our defense.

Just a guess, but DRC is probably seeking around $10M or more, so not really a fit for the Ravens

Aaron Wilson ‏@RavensInsider 3 hrs

Ravens and Daryl Smith still have disconnect on asking price, according to sources

oh no one not this again lol.

Daryl wants serious money, he deserves it honestly , he was Pro Bowl level last year but he won't get it from us.

if the market tells anything  a right deal for daryl seems to be 3 or 4 year deal around 15-20 million which idk if the ravens pay that.

yeah that deal that Browns gave to Dansby doesn't help us from a money perspective and also has the not-so-happy Cards looking at Daryl now too

Munny is looking for a starting job and a decent payday, he's not gonna settle for a backup job after the year he had. I don't like him as a starter, he's too short and more of a product of CAR's defense/system, just like Mike Mitchell. He'd be a really good slot corner though but I doubt that's gonna happen.

No way we pay that. He was great in coverage but his run defense was average, he lost that hammer dropping ability after the injury.

Yeah I pictured him in the slot. DRC is another option, the talent and value is there but I would question his commitment.

DRC is probably looking for Talib type money. And combined with his dumb comments about retiring I'd stay away from him. Hm. Tarrell Brown maybe? I don't really see us going after a starting corner to play slot.

Byrd signed with New Orleans 6 years 56M. How did they afford that?!?

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000333219/article/jairus-byrd-saints-agree-on-sixyear-56m-contract

They released Will Smith, Jabari Greer, Roman Harper and Lance Moore. Everyone believed that was in an effort to deal with Graham. Graham openly criticized these moves (which I always find amusing when players who are set to make a huge contract get upset when fellow players get released .... cause and effect?). Then they do this, so yes, it was a surprise.

Those cuts put them at barely 3M under the cap. They are likely to part ways with Sproles and will need to make an additional set of cuts just to have enough to make minor deals and sign rookies. They have zero chance of retaining any of their other FAs ... including Puente. Who I am hoping becomes a Raven

They're all looking for Talib money but a few of them are going to lose the FA sweepstakes, thats where we come in.

Broncos nail Talib, Ward and are poised to land Ware. Wow, that's a serious FA push on the defensive side of the ball.

I don't think we're looking at any high priced CB's.  It's not enough of a need.  If we lost out on Graham, we'll look for another cheap steal like how we got Graham in the first place.  DRC, Munnerlyn, etc. prices aren't going to fall enough to where it makes sense for us to sign one.  We need a 3rd CB.  We need starters in a lot of other places.

Could Peppers be a Hybrid 3-4 and 4-3 Defensive End?  I think he could and he might be a steal considering his age and that we lost Arthur Jones.

He has the power and size to do it but he has no motor, this is the guy who was making 15M a year and wanted to be a 290lb OLB, so I doubt he wants to two gap for chump change.

Not worth the money.  He plays best as a 4-3 DE and we have much more pressing needs.

Well it looks like no-one is interested in him yet, he's gonna have to settle for a lot less money at some point.

He's not going to be cheap.  He was just cut yesterday and he's got some competition on the market.  Once some of those dominos start to fall, interest in Peppers will pick up.
