Free Agents To Consider: Defense

Read the 7th paragraph down. Many people believe since he was an unrestricted free agent he will affect our comp picks.

I could care less what any source says, honestly. It says we may be affected, which would be true if Ihedigbo counts towards compensatory picks. What I believe is he won't. I don't think he got enough money. I think he was too cheap of a deal. Even if he wasn't, and let's say the 7th round cap is 1.5, Stewart would still be excluded and Ihedigbo would count but barely, netting us a 7th round comp pick. I just don't think Stewart or Ihedigbo count against our compensatory picks, for or against.

I'd say a 4th and two fifths would be right.

Yeah, I agree. The most likely of scenarios.

Probably lower going purely by contract value, but that could change depending on playing time.  The link below shows what guys signed for this year.  Obviously you have to throw out the ones that were cut, but either way, there are still a lot of guys that got a lot more than Michael Oher got.  I agree that Art Jones qualifies for a 4th, but I think Oher may fall just behind.

Yeah, I don't see us getting more than a 4th and two 5ths. Jones could if he has a stellar year where he starts every game, goes to the playoffs, and possibly gets a Pro Bowl nod. He could escalate to a 3rd in that scenario. He'd have to have a really stellar year for that to happen. I love Jones but that's a bit unlikely. But he did go to the Colts, and they very well could make the playoffs in that division so there's a chance. I don't see Oher getting us much more than the 5th. He should start every game unless they bench him, but I can't see him making the Pro Bowl but who knows. I don't think the Titans make the playoffs without a capable QB.

Okay I got a spreadsheet done ranking the top 36 players(or everyone who had a contract greater than 4.0 mil per year) and ranked them all according to Spotrac. Arthur Jones got 12th with 6.6 mil per year, Oher got tied for 25th with 5.0 mil per year, and Corey Graham got 36th with 4.075 mil per year. I could start a new topic and post the spreadsheet over there where it can be discussed and fact checked.

Eliminate players who teams also signed. You need to do that to have an accurate gauge on the pick. I have a spreadsheet as well. It's not with me right now. It's on my main computer. I would recommend you put everyone who signed with a new team on a spreadsheet and remove players who were cut by their former squad. That will give you a better gauge on what we may or may not lose regarding the Stewart signing. I honestly think he's too cheap to affect us. The league only issues 32 compensatory picks. That's it. 32. So that means that Stewart or Ihedigbo need to be in the top-32 contracts of this year's free agency market. If you then cross-reference the data and look and see what teams signed more unreleased, unrestricted free agents than other teams, you will then figure out what players will likely count as compensatory picks for their respective clubs.

Yeah...

Yeah...

Yeah guys who were cut or re-signed have already been factored out. Now I am narrowing it down so that players who were replaced with similar value are being cut out.

It's very time consuming. I'm curious to see who's in the top-32 when you're done. The easy way is to go team by team in my experience. Then, whoever is left, you leave in the equation and only count the top-32 players. I think you're likely to see that Ihedigbo wouldn't have ever been a compensatory pick for us. I just don't think he got enough money.

Yeah looking at the contracts, it does not seem likely at all that he is in it

The long and short of this while debate is, we will end up with 3 comp picks if no other significant signings occur before June. Digs and Stewart have similar value contracts, so they will either be ignored or cancel each other out. It doesn't matter unless Digs goes to the Pro Bowl or Stewart gets cut before the season or something like that.
