Free Agents To Consider: Defense

Anyways......

We still need a better D-Line, I just re-watched the buffalo game and we got gashed. I'd rather use a 1st, 2nd or 3rd round pick on a DL as opposed to Free Agency. What does everyone think?

I agree. Losing Art Jones does not help this fact.

haloti ngata has been a massive dissapointment. His production based on his salary last year is actualy an insult to many d-linesman not even getting 1/4 of that and putting up double the production.

i have lost a lot of respect for ngata. If he had taken a slight paycut this year it would have changed my opinion of him.

I heard they tried on numerous sites. I don't know if it was ever formally reported here (and why would they?), but I heard it around the web. Fact of the matter is he just has too much leverage.

Well you can officially cross FS off the list of defensive needs... Brynden Trawick resigned!!

Did I really get negged for this? Man, someone needs to lighten up and get their sarcasm detector checked out.

How was his production based on salary when he made a total of $14 mil. during his first 5 years of all pro play? Did anyone complain then?

Even though he was oft injured in 2012, he hung in and contributed when he could, playing hurt.  Remember what happened when he went out in the SB? And he had a solid year playing out of position at NT last year. I think you discount his importance and performance.

Exactly, no complaints when he was playing at an all pro level. The man is still productive and I believe this extra rest, since the team missed playoffs, will help our older guys heal up.

I say we trust our own guys and use the draft to build up whatever's left til camp starts and guys are cut. Not a FA, but if Rolando comes back, I think he can be a huge addition if he can get back mentally and in shape. Would ask McPhee to get back on the d line as well.

I got hit for -19 when I said we should have thrown the Super Bowl so we could land Markus Wheaton in the 4th. This place is serious business.

As far as I know all they asked him to do was sign an extension so they could lower his cap hit - that I think was according to Aaron Wilson.  Now I think what's going on is simply that Ngata has been thinking retirement for a while and didn't want to extend his deal any further.  As far as I know, this isn't like the Boldin thing last year (which I still don't get) where they outright told him to take a paycut or he'd be gone.

Signing Haloti to an extension would be a horrendous decision in the first place.  If our FO suggested that, then shame on them.  Why on earth would you take a player that isn't living up to his contract, who has had injury issues, and who has talked about retirement and give him an extension?  Pave the way to Pittsburgh, because if we're going to do that, we're on the road to cap hell.

Around the same time the New Suggs extension occurred. It was reported on here, Baltimore sun and other sites that Ozzie offered Ngata several such options to lower his cap figure for this season but that Ngata's negations were much different more difficult than Suggs since Ngata's deal has 2 years left and Suggs was in the final year.

Haha, still too soon man.

Although you have to love how he just throws his body out there for the team.

He's got a lot to learn, but I love that he's always going full speed, even when he's unsure where he's going.

Boldin! You mentioned him I didn't, lol. It turned out to be the right move for Boldin as he kept his money, returned to the playoffs (almost SB), gained the most yards since leaving Arizona, and earned an extension without taking a decrease in pay.

On the other hand, keeping him may have gotten the Ravens into the playoffs but no farther with the team we fielded.

They lacked the leverage to threaten him unlike Suggs.

To all my ravens fan. Do not hate me for this comment, but I think the Ravens should trade for SS Taylor from the bengals. 6'3 230lbs, blazing speed and physical. He plays our style of defense but never got a chance with the bengals. He can play strong or free safety. Our coaching staff could really get creative with him and elam. Just saying.

I would NEVER trust him at FS, but wouldn't mind him at SS. If the pick was very late wouldn't see the harm depth wise, but isn't Taylor kinda like Trawick as far as a liability laying out his own teammates?

If we wanted Taylor Mays, we would have just signed him.  He was a FA a little over a week ago.

I dont know why we haven't given a offer to safety clemons or decloud or a veteran center. I think ozzie knows something we dont but time will tell.
