Free Agents To Consider: Defense

Still hoping we can bring Daryl back.  The Broncos seem to be the only team that has been reported to be interested, and we know how much they spent.  Hopefully Smith's asking price comes down and we can re-sign him.

What CBs are available? Sam Shields, Alterraun Verner & Captain Munnerlyn all signed deals.

Cook, DRC, Thurmond, Tillman, Browner, Brown, Cromartie

I like Thurmond outta the best

Browner (talking to few teams), Tillman, Rodgers-Cromartie...

Honestly, between Smith, Webb, and Jackson/Brown, we can have 3 decent CBs on the field.  We should look to the draft to fill our remaining CB needs.

Graham provided valuable depth at corner and wasn't expected to be "the guy" and IMO played much better than Webb in general in 2013. Not saying in the long run Webb will not return to form, but he flat out sucked last year and hopefully improves in 2014. Regardless, we need to bolster depth at corner.

I think you're exaggerating when you say he flat out sucked. Perhaps he did compared to his previous play. I just can't see him being terrible.

Or they rather just get the high comp pick. Drafting Jones was a total success. 5th round pick, contributed to a title, will likely get a 3rd or 4th comp pick from him and he got a well deserved nice pay day. I'm truly happy for him but I'm glad we didn't invest that into him.

I'm not so sure. With the contracts that have been handed out this year, he might get us a 4th round pick at best, possibly even as low as a 5th.

5th for a 5th. All day.

I still think we eventually sign a FS. Whether it's now or the next round of cuts, but we usually don't go into the draft with a giant need like that. Especially when we have cap space. We at least have a cheap vet that could start if we didn't draft one high. I really hope that's the case though.

I'm still sticking by Kendrick Lewis. Had a couple of bad years due to injury, but fit that playmaker mold previously. He should be cheap enough to where it's not much of a risk.

Lewis wouldn't be a bad signing it's just his injuries make him unreliable but that's the caveat. That's why he'd come cheap.

Yeah it'd be cheap so that's why I'm open to it. If you can find a way to get him back to his rookie year level, you have a steal. If not, oh well. He can't be the only option at FS though.

Even if he plays great which I'm expecting him to do?

I think then if he did play great and doesn't miss a game and makes the Pro Bowl we should get a 4th but I'm not sure if it'll ho higher than that. Extremely unlikely.

Wow. That tough to get a 3rd?

Thoughts on Vince Wilfork release?  I still think he is one of if not the best Nose Tackle in the game.

Money would be better spent on Alex Mack or a FS. Nothing against Wilfork but he's not a fit here.

Maybe a little, but he was pretty bad. At one point I remember hearing talk of a move to FS.

Julius Peppers, Mario Williams, Corteland Finnegan - those caliber players and level of contracts are the type that get you third round picks.  If Kruger had somehow made the probowl in Cleveland, we probably would have gotten a third for him.  It takes into consideration both contract and performance on the new team the following year.  So if Jones has a ridiculous season in Indy, we might have an outside shot at a 3rd, but it's also relative to how the other free agents this year are compensated and how they perform.
