Free Agents To Consider: Defense

607 posts in this topic

This "thread per player" is out of control and we've been receiving a lot of complaints. As Free Agency heats up, let's try to keep it here.

Thanks.

Chris D. Clemons isn't a flashy playmaker, but he is extremely solid in coverage and a very underrated free safety. Given how much cap space Miami has, I'm not sure Baltimore could get him, but I'd hope they could at least make a run. More realistic than Jairus Byrd.

I also would love to target Walter Thurmond III. I feel he flies under the radar a lot because he plays for a great secondary in Seattle, but he's an underrated cornerback for sure.

They're probably thinking Byrd, then, which would obviously put him out of Baltimore's range.

Clemons could probably be had for fairly cheap, too. He just does not get nearly the recognition he deserves.

Hey Miami somehow decided to upgrade Dansby with Ellerbe so Miami logic for you.

And I know he doesn't get recognition because fans keep clamoring for Jairus Byrd and no mention of the more reasonable Clemons.

Plus, hasn't Byrd struggled with that foot injury for some time?

Malcolm Jenkins still has all the talent in the world and is young. If we want a cheap guy who might have what it takes we could look at Louis Delmas, I like this route.

I hear Delmas is getting some interest so he might go for a little more than we want. Clemmons would be a good pickup however as would Griffin. And yeah I don't know why Miami decides to do some of the things they do lol

I am now kinda hoping that they do pay tons of money on Monroe and Byrd. Then they can be like the Cowboys in a couple years.

Don't forget the brilliant move they made on grabbing Mike Wallace.

How much do you think Champ Bailey gets? it probably won't be more than 2 years.

Agreed and I think he will get $6-8 million a year maybe more depending on how much Verner and Finnegan go for. Everyone has seen he has been torched a fair share of times especially in playoff games *cough* torrey smith twice *cough* and then doug baldwin burned him once or twice too. He is on the decline, but he can still play.

Thomas Decoud, Antoine Bethea, and Chris Clemons are FS's that we should definitely go after. I think by adding one to our back end and drafting a developmental FS would be great for us. Louis Delmas will probably get a lot of money and he's injury prone. Byrd will get insane money, but rightfully deserved. Hoping we can get one of the guys I said above for a cheap three or four year deal.

I have a feeling our FO already has all the potential FA covered.   Measured by measure on all players by how much we are willing to spend.

We just have to see what happens next week.

champ says he doesent mind playing safety.

could be a good veteran stop gap at FS for 1 or 2 years.

unlesss he wants a big pay day.

wonder how much he has left.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us target a vet DE to spell the assumed young group of Tyson, KLM, and Williams.  I don't know who that guy is just yet, but I see something similar to our Marcus Spears signing of last year happen again this year,

With reports that Michael Bennett wants to test free agency, apparently the Seahawks offer wasn't good enough, maybe we make a run at him if Monroe walks. We have more cap then they do.

Uhhh, why?  Bennett is a 4-3 DE.  He doesn't fit here.

he's flexible enough to play in different schemes. 49ers are apparently considering him too for their 3-4.

He'd be a stand up pass rusher here.  We just invested into Suggs, and we invested into Dumervil last year.  Bennett doesn't fit here.

I hear you but, that's conventional thinking, but he's more versatile than you think. He can be used in different ways and his forte is actually rushing from DT on passing downs.

You don't pay a guy as much as you'd pay him for him not to be a full time player.

Stevie Brown could be helpful at safety. Did a good job on the Giants last year and has decent ball skill. Dont think he would command a large contract either. Think he could do just as good a job as Clemons at a lower price.

Clemons is going to be at a low price too he's not up there with byrd or ward he' a very good Coverage FS thats not going to get top dollar. because alot of people don't know who he is. so underrated.
