Free Agents To Consider: Offense

If Holmes accepts the veteran minimum we should give him a shot. WHEN healthy, WHEN motivated, WHEN focused, he can be a difference maker. Well, he used to be. He looked like garbage in NY. Didn't produce, was always hurt, kept complaining. Huge headcase. Rather have Steve Smith over him.

I don't understand why no one seems to be mentioning James Jones when talking about FA WR's, could be a nice signing for a lot of teams

There are probably a bunch of reasons why. He's the best FA receiver out there. He's short but not a burner, he's a possession receiver but he has stone hands. So what do you offer a guy like that? Not much. Somebody will because he's the best receiver available (although I'd argue it's Nicks). Jones is not worth what somebody is going to offer him. There are less expensive options like Nicks and Tate who I think are better anyway. Tate could be a stud here, he reminds me of Boldin/Ward.

I'd prefer to bring back Austin Howard at RT over Oher or Winston. The guy looks a lot different after getting in shape and his play has improved every season.

Hmmm I think its interesting that The Ravens are in the market for a receiver to work the middle of the field or should I say a slot receiver. I thought Marlon Brown would be their ideal guy whom they like to have in the slot along with Pitta.

Well all Ozzie really said at the presser was he wanted a receiver or tight end that could make a 3rd and 7 catch and that had some YAC ability.  He really wasn't referencing anything about outside the numbers vs. inside the numbers, so I could see them drafting another speedy guy and move Marlon into the slot.  The other thing too is that if Jacoby is resigned, we pretty much could just take the best player available regardless of what his strengths are since we'd have Torrey and Jacoby outside and Pitta and Brown inside.

I think the Ravens want Edelman as well, but this is a big risk because Brady made Edelman better and Joe does not have that ability up to this point. I think that if the Saints release Lance Moore he can play a similar role for us at a much lower cost and would allow us to still bring in a bigger receiver like Decker, James Jones, Hakeem Nicks, Avant, etc.

Gotta protect Joe, need another proven TE in addition to drafting one, and then stock up on receivers!

Overall I think my offense wish list would be:

LT Eugene Monroe

C Alex Mack, Goodwin, or Smith

TE Brandon Pettigrew

WR Lance Moore

WR Some combo of Decker/Jones/Nicks

WR early round draft pick (1st or 2nd - LOVE, LOVE, LOVE sure handed Allen Robinson from Penn State on this team)

WR position would be STACKED

Defense is easier:

LB Daryl Smith

CB Corey Graham (if another team doesn't overpay)

LB Rolando McClain (wants to come back and we need ILB)

FS mid round draft pick and a mid cost vet

This off season is gonna be good! So much money to spend!

What I think might happen is after Eugene resigns(heard a deal is imminent.,. And thank god), we go after as BloodRaven mentioned earlier, Austin Howard.

Then give a hurt vet a two year prove it deal like JD Walton

Zach Strief > Austin Howard. Also Walton is a bum and has injury concerns he wouldn't get more than a 1 year deal.

Hoping we go after a WR this year in free agency. A lot of good options who you don't have to break the bank for.

According to Ian Rapoport, the Ravens back up plan if they can't land Monroe is to make a play at Alex Mack. Thoughts?

I can get down with that. Means we'd probably target a tackle in Round 1 then. If we lock Monroe up we'll probably draft a WR instead. So would you rather have:

-Monroe + 1st round WR/Safety

or

-Alex Mack + 1st round Tackle

IThe idea of Stevie Smith assuming he is cut, is growing on me. Smith can still run (I remember him winning his matchup with Talib pretty convincingly this year on MNF) and would give the offense that swagger that left with Anquan. We could still draft a receiver but with less pressure to be a day 1 starter, which would be a good thing for a young receiver.

I'm down with the idea of signing Steve Smith.

Owen Daniels was released. He could make sense as well.

Rapoport just said that we might go after Alex Mack (C, Browns) if we don't get a deal done with Monroe. Not sure how this makes sense in any way. Especially since we're about to re-sign Monroe.

Loving the Smitty love. He's just such a gritty guy and has that 'Ravens' attitude... ive started tweeting him with the hashtag #getstevesmithtobaltimore

Just read an article about the Ravens being a potential spot for Steve Smith. We don't need to keep wasting money on 35 year old receivers. We have plenty of talent in the cubbard at receiver in Torrey, Marlon, Streeter, Jacoby, will also have a healthy Pitta..plus whoever they draft.

Spend money on Oline...only after we have that taken care of should we bring in vet receivers. Flacco's knee injury last year was luckily not as bad as it could have been. .and no matter how over paid you think the guy is, we can't win without him. That's a fact.

Streeter is not on the roster anymore and I think another team scooped him up. It also doesn't look like Jacoby will be back since he is getting a lot of interest.

I think Alex Mack is overrated.

How come Trent Richardson had a dismal year behind such a promising O-line.

Trent's rookie year showed much promise, but this year everything fell apart.

Steve Smith and Owen Daniels would be great vet pickups that would not only produce but act as good mentors for our rookie class and younger players.

Let's make it happen Ozzie.

Daniels should come cheap and makes perfect sense with the Kubiak connection.  I can see our red zone offence being deadly with Pitta & Daniels 2 TE sets.

Smith was meant to a Raven with his swagger and attitude.  Gives us what we lost with Boldin and Mason the last few seasons.

Baltimore sun reporting Ravens showing interest in WR Steve Smith

It would be nice to give Flacco a great young WR for a change and not always those old guys.

We have always had success with veteran Wrs. They are reliable security blankets and can help develop and mentor some of the younger guys on our team. Well worth it.

I think most QBs would choose a wily old vet.

Trent is a bad running back that's all. He was injured a bunch his rookie year, what promise?
