Steve Smith is being traded by the Panthers. If he fails to be traded and gets cut he could be another option for the Ravens. Last year even in one of his worst years as a wideout he put up 60+catches and averaged 12 yards per. Going on 35 but still has a lot left in the tank for another 2-3 years of decent production. Maybe a 1 year deal option...but he could have a good sized market.

I'd do it if they cut him, but not a trade - 7 million is a lot for a 35-year old receiver, even if it is Steve Smith.

Michael Bush cut by the Bears. Might be an interesting guy to add to our backfield as a bigger, stronger back. Of course, depends on price.

by rotoworld on Julian Eldeman contract talks with the pats if he hits the open marke!t  @BenVolin NFL/Pats writer Could see #Ravens, #Texans and #Browns as legit suitors for Edelman if #Patriots let him get to the market.

Interesting.  I wanted him last year and I got slammed for that.  Thought he was perfect at the minimum before he re-signed with the Pats at the minimum.  I don't know what his price is this year, but I'd still be open to it if it's manageable.

That's not what I heard.  I saw the EDS could be one of the first ones signed after FA officially opens tomorrow.

Remember when we said 6 and half million was too much for 33 year old Anquan Boldin? Im with you in concurrence that the best course of action would be to wait...but if Im a team like New England or a desperate team like the Jets $7M and a late rounder isn't that bad.

We shall see. De La Puente could work as well, but I think it will be tough to find a center would will start a decent amount of time.

But is he any good ? Shipley can play multiple positions but sucks, ravens need a quality center not just another ok multifaceted lineman

I doubt he would pull the trigger right away, if the Giants are smart they would not overpay someone who has garnered 0 interest so far through the tampering period. If EDS gives it some time he should get a few other calls besides the Giants (maybe us). Then he could weigh out his options make some visits and make his choice. I agree the Giants are the heavy favorite with the Pack close second but nothing is imminent.

He did well last year.  He didn't let up any sacks, but only played about half of the season if I remember correctly.

He was a fill in guyfor a few games because Peter Konz sucked...(remember all the mock drafts on these boards that wanted us to draft Konz a few years ago in the first round?) lol  hawley is more of a reserve lineman and we already have plenty of those.

He'd take Jah Reid's spot that's for sure.

I would love to have one of my favorite Fantasy players, Steve Smith, play for my fav team. No way i would consider him in a trade.. but if he was cut, i think Ozzie would be silly not to consider him. He is still formidable at his age, still good speed and hands and has the intangibles that he could pass on to younger receivers.

Also, i am biased and would love to him in a Ravens uni.

God that was so annoying. I remember arguing with people that he wasn't worth it and getting hate from some on the matter. The guy just isn't good and I'm glad we didn't take him. I've never been impressed by him. Overrated if you ask me.

Gosh that was so annoying. I remember that as well. It was beyond irritating. So happy we didn't take him.

Anyway, I'd like Goodwin (stopgap), Ohrnberger, Costa & Velasco are my picks.

Joe Hawley is a below average center (as of now) mainly because he hasn't had much experience at the position. But he's young (25) with a ton of upside and has shown a lot of traits that suggest he could eventually become really good down the road. He's probably a borderline top 10 run blocker but definitely has to get stronger and develop more technique in order to be more efficient in the passing game. Put it to you this way, If you'd be gracious enough to give Gino Gradkowski a 4 out of 10 in pass blocking - Hawley would probably be 6.5 out of 10. The top guys are around 9.5 out of 10. If you would be even kinder to grace Gino with a 5 out of 10 for run blocking, Hawley would probably be a 8 out of 10. So maybe that gives you a better understanding of what kind of player he is. What he has going for him is he's aggressive, he gets good leverage and he's quick enough on his feet to hold his own 1-on-1.

My take is Atlanta finds a way re-sign him on the low and he and Konz battle it out in camp. If the interest in him from other teams is sincere then Atlanta doesn't have a shot and theyre just going have to hope Konz finally breaks out and becomes the player they drafted him to be.

Would anyone touch WR Santonio Holmes with a 10 foot pole?

How heavy is the pole? Are we talking aluminum? pvc? steel? Or is it made out of a loosely wound veteran minimum contract ;)?

from the baltimnore sun Aaron wilson in a article about 2 hours ago listed some FA the ravens are interested in at WR.

The Ravens could also be in the market for a veteran wide receiver, preferably someone who can work the middle of the field in tandem with Pitta.

Among the players expected to be on their wish list, according to sources: Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders, Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Golden Tate, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dexter McCluster and New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman.

Should the Patriots release Danny Amendola or the Carolina Panthers cut or trade Steve Smith, the pool of receivers could increase and the prices could potentially drop for pass-catchers.

If we are talking running backs my dark horse Raven is James Starks. He has shown the ability to make big runs against good Ds and could be a good backup to Bernard Pierce if Ray Rice should get suspended.

I'll give you a name to look for: Pierre Thomas. Maybe via trade ;) In the event he isn't traded he'll likely become a cap casualty and be released. The Saints are pressed against the cap as is and moving Pierre would create $2.5M in cap savings. So unless they rework his deal he's likely to be on a different team next year. Hopefully ours...

He's a big, strong, downhill runner. He would give us that power to compliment Rice and Bernard with. I know most feel that's Bernard's role, but Bernard can't stay healthy enough to bang bodies all season. He needs someone to help absorb that punishment. If we could get Pierre cheap, i'd give him a 2 or 3 year deal and let all three of em battle it out in camp for their place on the depth chart.

I don't understand why no one seems to be mentioning James Jones when talking about FA WR's, could be a nice signing for a lot of teams

Hmmm I think its interesting that The Ravens are in the market for a receiver to work the middle of the field or should I say a slot receiver. I thought Marlon Brown would be their ideal guy whom they like to have in the slot along with Pitta.

no they want a shifty shorter guy(wes welker type) for that marlon can do that but its not ideal for him to just play slot WR when he not quick or fast. i would only put him there in the red zone thats it.
