Free Agents To Consider: Offense

Let's go get Laggarrette Blount. He can play FB and RB. Imagine Power I formation with Blount FB and Rice/Pierce behind?? Or just give blount the ball. Beef up our O line in the draft, then ground and pound....I'm wishing out loud...lol

Blount would be a really good signing. We've struggled in short yardage situations for years now..Blount is a guy who can convert those 3rd/4th and shorts or punch the ball in on the GL

Blount could take over full-time if Rice continues his ...downtrend.

You remember what he did to us last year? Blount killed us in that game... Let's get the beast on our side. He would open up our play action a bit!

imo, we can get better value ($$$ & age) with one of our comp picks in the draft.

He was part of a rotation but during the end of the season and the playoffs he carried the load. And he did a really good job. Just my opinion though.

We could do that for every position instead of FA, where would that get us? Blount is only 27 and I think in his prime right now. Why don't we just draft a whole team and save $. Fact is we need to fill some holes in FA and the O linemen on FA don't seem that eye catching. If we could get a big goal line back at a good deal, then why not? Then we could attempt to fix other problems in the draft. For all I know we could get Blount and draft a RB and both our points would be made. Have them battle it out for the starter position. Blount has matured and is more experienced then a rookie...

We have too much time and money invested in Rice/Pierce .. (Both of whom will bounce back this year). I like Blount quite a bit, but we can find a suitable 3rd string RB in the draft at a much cheaper price, imo.

I have a question maybe some of you on here can answer. It's about Alex Mack.

To franchise tag Mack would cost about $11.6M with the transition tag costing about $10.6M. That's a difference of $1M for a team that had over $40M in cap space. Why in the world did they place just the transition tag when it provides nothing as compensation and costs nearly the same. I have no answer, but I'm curious as to why they didn't just put the franchise tag.

Because its cheaper...and even to a cap friendly team like the Browns cheaper is cheaper. With the transition tag the Browns have the right to first refusal and can match any offers other teams make within 5 days. It gives them the opportunity to gauge the market and see what Mack is truly worth. And it looks like a job well done by them as Mack hasn't garnered much interest. He will likely just sign his $10M deal and look to negotiate a long term deal with the Browns...who will have all the leverage.

I'ma say it.

I'd take Sanchez as a backup

Honestly thats the only place I can see him playing in 2014...as someone's backup.

I wouldn't want him on this team because....well he is Mark Sanchez.

IDK - I think even as a backup he's too mentally fragile - I wince every time I see the ball in his hands, he has almost no clue what he's doing out there.

Blount is the type of RB that fits in here perfectly, especially in the AFC North. It would suck for Pierce because he deserves a shot but Blount is a proven back who can get the job done. He'd be a good addition I think and we'd have a great 1 2 punch with him and Rice. We'll see if this gets done, but I'd be up for it. As for Sanchez, unless he's accepting the veteran minimum or something close to that I have no interest in him. Joe is about as reliable a QB as there is in football. No need to spend 5 mil. on a backup QB that won't see the field.

I rather get a rookie rb, a big back in the later rounds. And to mark sanchez hell naa! He is bad luck i rather get tebow for postive energy to our time lol

Blount is a monster that is barely stoppable with a full head of steam. He really emerged for new england late in the year and , tbh,  carried them because Brady wasn't playing that great. His passing blocking is iffy and doesn't switch the ball away from defenders but 100% a worth while signing.

You must not have heard Steve Smith say when referring to Mark Sanchez, and I quote, " He sucks. I wouldn't let him throw me a paper bag sandwich." Now besides the fact I dont think any of our guys would want passes from Sanchez, then the fact that.... he sucks. I don't see him and Smith being on the same team. I'd also rather just keep Tyrod as the backup if Sanchez is the only other option.

Also, I had to come out of mobile just to see if you were in the + or -.

Sounds like we'll be letting the market come to us if it happens.  Much like the Emmanuel Sanders situation from earlier this offseason.  We'll sit back, determine if it's the right fit, and either choose to make a move or not.  I'm sure we've made it known that we have interest, at least.

I have an uneasy feeling that he suits up for the Steelers. I know they're very tight on cap space but I still feel they'll find a way to pick him up.

We should bring him in. Rice status is unknown pending his case. Reports are benard had shoulder surgery and might not be ready for training camp.

Both Raven RBs are question marks heading into the season. Good idea to kick the tires. He would be good change of pace runner, and short yardage. It will come down to $ always does.

I've been hoping for L.Blount since he got on FA, also hoping steelers can't afford him! I'd hate to face him and L.bell twice a season!?!? I'm checking every minute online for news on " Patriots ex-RB Laggarrette Blount agrees to a deal with Baltimore Ravens!" We honestly don't know what the future holds with Rice and his arrest, and Pierce injuries. So fingers crossed Blount suits up in Purple&Black!!! GO RAVENS!

Looks like we're gonna wait and see if the Steelers make Blount an offer, and if so use that to decide our level of interest. While I think hes a good fit, I see him as more of a luxury than a need. Plus, I don't like signing vet, FA backs especially when its the only one getting interest from multiple teams. He may not get paid a lot, but I think we'd have to overpay to land him not matter what for the role we need filled.

I think it's better to try and fill the void with a late round draft pick or bring in a scrap heap guy with some tread left on the tires. I'd like it to be someone we can get some ST play out of too - I don't think Blount contributes there and since we know Rice and Pierce wont, I just think it's wasting a roster spot to have 3 rb's and not have a single one that can play ST.

Let's not turn Blount into Peterson, please. I would have liked for us to add him but he's not AP, the Steelers can't even run block. Without an elite O-Line he's not gonna look any better than in Tampa in his last few years were he was barely averaging 4 yards per carry. I don't even think he's an upgrade over Bell who's more shifty and just as tough running inside. Bell averaged an awful 3.5 yards per carry last season and he couldn't get anything going, so again calm down. I wouldn't worry about either of them, I'm more worried about shutting Big Ben down. The Steelers can't run the ball, no matter who they have back there. He'll have a subpar season because everybody expects him to put up the same numbers he put up in NE later in the season and that's not gonna happen in Pittsburgh. Good back, but useless if you can't runblock.

I have full faith in Ray & Pierce.

Blount is a great situational runner. He isn't an every down starter. Given that fact, the 2 mill a year they are paying him is simply too rich, and Ozzie probably wouldn't have ever considered that. Not surprisingly nor did the Pats. Plus, given Rice could face a suspension, we might actually need an every down back for a number of games, so Blount isn't really the right fit for us. He will cause us headaches to stop for sure, but he eats up most of the remaining cap Pitt had, so thats probably good for us in the long run -- it's not like they don't have big holes to fill. Plus I'm not really sure how much of an upgrade (for Pitt) this is over Dwyer who at times showed Blount like potential, but at a much lower price tag. I think we probably dodged a Bullet on this one, price-wise. We will address RB with a cheaper, less situational guy.

For almost the same money you could bring back both L'Ron McLain and Leach and really run over some guys on 3rd and short type plays. (not saying that's what we should do, but it would be fun to).
