Free Agents To Consider: Offense

Move Owen Daniels to the top. Two time Pro Bowler, familiar with the new offense, and perfect for our Kubiaks two TE sets. Get him in ASAP.

He also has big injury concerns and has been surpassed there.

Aaron Wilson also said he was cut because he failed his physical - they cut him even after he said he'd be willing to restructure his contract.  There's more to it than just the fact they were happy with Graham.

Im pretty sure Brandon Marshall was a 4th rounder too.

Yes he was, as was Eric Decker. What are we trying to prove lol

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/source--baltimore-ravens-are-favorites-to-land-steve-smith-if-and-when-he-s-cut-011345671.html

"League sources have told the Shutdown Corner that GM Ozzie Newsome has set his sights on Smith. Although the Ravens don't appear to be interested in making a trade with the Panthers to guarantee getting him (and taking on that salary), they certainly would try to move quickly to add him to the roster and give the Ravens another weapon in a passing attack that hit bottom a few times last season."

Nah Deck was a 3rd.

Ah my bad lol although it was late third so close enough. Brian Hartline and Cecil Shorts were 4th rounders however lol

I don't like the idea of signing Steve Smith at all. Smith is about to be 35 years old and the 1 year of production we would squeeze out of him would not be worth the loss of a compensatory pick. If you give me the option between a 4th or 5th rounder or a 35 year old Smith, I would take the draft pick any day of the week. I hope the ravens pick up a wideout either through the draft or through another team cutting a player so we don't lose our compensatory pick.

The way I believe the wide receiver position should be addressed is through the draft. Mike Evans from Texas A&M would fit Gary Kubiak's offense quite well and has similar size to Andre Johnson. If he is available at 17, taking him would be a no-brainer. If he is off the board, the Ravens should look to trade back or take the BPA, but there is no way that the Ravens would make it out of round 3 without taking a receiver. Once the draft is over we could likely snatch up a cut free agent wide receiver like Jason Avant as a 3. There will probably be a lot of receivers still on the market after the draft is over due to the deep class this year, so rushing to sign Steve Smith would not fix anything.

I feel the same way. Unless one of the OT fall to us, the only guy worth taking at 17 is Evans. If he is not available, I would want us to trade back, and get another 2nd

Saw an article that said we could potentially be interested in Brandon Pettigrew from Detroit.... Thoughts? Also how much do you guys think we could get James Jones for? He seems like a great fit

Sorry arnie, haven't been on here much lately.....do you disagree because you don't like Evans, or because you like other guys in addition to Evans at #17?

Is Pettigrew available?? If so, we need to make him a big priority. Absolutely perfect fit for us and what we need.

James Jones or Sanders would be far better signings than Steve Smith, Probably cheaper too.

H's out there.  Don't think he's met with anybody.

I'm pretty sure he's not high on Evans at 17. He's just got a lot of kinks to work out and most assume we wouldn't have time for that. If we got Steve Smith, it would be more likely and a good opportunity.

There will be others, like OBJ or Lee

I highly doubt they'd be cheaper. Sanders is way younger, so no way he's cheaper. James Jones would probably be slightly more expensive, and you have to consider he's never had 1000 yards and his best season was the result of a rare double digit touchdown season. Steve Smith at 35 won't command much at all and is still productive, putting up similar numbers to Jones, but still bringing the speed needed to stretch a defense and the scrappy, tough guy attitude the offense needs

Do we need a blocking TE or a vert threat?

James Jones has stone hands and Sanders value bottomed out when he failed to thrive as a starter, the Steelers wish they could go back and get that 3rd from the Pats.

@RavensInsider: Sources say Steve Smith would be highly interested in the Ravens should he be cut by the Panthers

Although scarred, as we all should be, by veteran receivers on the wrong side of 30, I would absolutely love to see Steve Smith as a Raven.

if steve smith is released, signing him would create a nice scenario. can't count on a rookie receiver to come in and have an impact right off the bat, and smith would allow a draft pick time to develop and eventually fill-in once he retires. he would be a nice stop gap for two years, and would provide flexibility if they wanted to focus on a mosley at lb or pryor or clinton-dix at safety in round 1. signing smith would make him and t. smith the first two receivers on the field, allowing us to go receiver in rounds 2-3 given the solid depth at the position. ravens would be looking at smith as a proven commodity that fits their style, while not blocking the way for a potential high round draft pick in the future.

Didn't we just do Steven Smith with Brandon Stokley and Dallas Clark last season?  Not that my enthusiasm matters but Julian Edelman would excite me much more as a Raven than SS.

Oh, I don't think you can compare Steve Smith to Brandon Stokley and Dallas Clark. IMO, he'd be more like Mason was for us in his last 2 years with the team.

It would have to be a short deal, right price. I still think we want a future #2 out of the draft round 1. Hopefully that person is available when we pick at #17.

The people who are comparing, Smith to Stokley/Clark....wow. Smith was still Carolina's best WR, last year. Smith is a baller, and will give this offense much needed attitude.

Smith in FA

Camapanaro in the draft

From our TE, we definitely need a guy who can throw some blocks....Pettigrew also gives us a reliable pass catcher so that we can run 2 TE sets when desired. Would love to get him
