Ravens Re-Sign Dennis Pitta

Owners also pay for transportation, equipment, medical , etc for grown men playing a child's game. Owners deserve it as they take the business risk and pay for everything. It's just funny that people playing football make more than doctors, pilots, firefighters, etc. just was having fun for numbers but it's shocking that people defend that they deserve every cent of it.

Congrats to Pitta, gonna get back on track here

Water should cost more than diamonds because we need water....but scarcity determines value and pro athlete talent is rare.

Plus factor in that doctors, teachers, and firefighters don't have audiences and there are a reasonable amount of people in those jobs it would actually mean less people would need to do those jobs for them to make more. Scarcity pays!

But yes congrats to pitta!

Harbs is impressed with the guy that cleans the Castle's bathrooms. That's just who he is.

Yeah I know that. I just don't think you're getting his max value by lining him up inline. I think he's a better player out of the slot, personally. I wouldn't be mad if we took him. I'd like the pick, but I think we'd have better options and it's not something I see us doing anyways.

I agree he's best out of the slot, and I'm fairly confident we take a WR at 17 although I wouldn't rule out the possibility of going defense.

I disagree with this considering we have 0 depth behind Pitta. I think the only other TE we have on the roster is Furstenburg. Additionally, given Kubiak is our OC, I expect a lot of two TE sets. Can't forget about Pitta's injuries either.

We have zero depth behind Pitta but I'm not sure if the team will invest a high pick into a TE if a very good WR is also available. I could see us do it but I think this move slightly reduces the likelihood in all honesty.

I think we just need to get one of Lynch, Fiedorowicz, Niklas and that would just about solve TE for me. All three of them are BIG blockers who have potential as a receiver as well.

Certainly if compared to reality (which football is NOT) no player is worth millions of dollars. Neither do the owners deserve to make hundreds of millions. After all, all they are doing is providing entertainment. Anyone who has not cured cancer is not worth that kind of money. Are musicians or actors worth the kind of money they get paid. Hell no.Totally agree.

Football is not comparable to the common persons everyday reality. No entertainment media can be.

If things were actually balanced, teachers and daycare providers would get paid the most and politicians and entertainment people would be paid the least. But life isn't fair.

Back in the unfair world, Pitta is worth his new contract to the team. At least the guys signing the checks think so.

By the way, owners don't pay for anything, the fans do. And there is no risk. No one who owns a football team in todays NFL has any risk of losing money. The only risk is that they will not make as much as they would like. Which team actually loses money?

With the cap predicted to go upto 135MM this year, I think we'll be okay with Pitta's 21MM over 3 yrs contract. Did they pay him more than his production. Yes, but he does have potential upside, between his supposed chemistry with Flacco and the new schemes the awesome Kubiak will bring to Baltimore. TEs' thrive under Kubiak, so I expect Pitta to put up the best numbers of his career this year.

As of right now he [Pitta] is the best receiver we have in my eyes.

I'm not trying to say that Pitta sucks, but I think Torrey is better, as shown by the fact that he had the higher yardage and touchdown totals in all three of the seasons in which the two played together. Both were healthy in 2011 and 2012.

It's set at $133 million.

We knew Oz would sign him.

Burned like the Great Chicago Fire over the Boldin "misdecision", Oz was bound to fear repeating the same mistake. That's how Oz rolls.

The issue is whether Pitta's contribution to the team in the Post Boldin Era, was accurately assessed.

This fan believes Oz overcompensated again.

Oh Well! Let's hope he was somewhere close this time.

sglad to see this. now wedont have to take a tight end so early. round 1 im thinking we go tackle if one of the better tackles slips to us or an athletic free safety like HA HA. We can certainly pick up a quality #2 WR in the 2nd rd.

He's already 28 though, will be 29 at the start of next year.  He may get cleaner with his route running and a little more savvy, but his athleticism has already peaked.  He's at the tail end of his athletic prime.

I don't think his age will be as big a factor as it would have been for most players, because he came into the league older, at 25.  I think a lot of the breakdown in the early 30s has as much to do with the amount of contact these guys take as much as age related changes, and comparatively Pitta probably will have half the wear and tear on his body as an average player his age.

Its not all about stats....Torrey Smith is not as reliable as Pitta, we had Torrey healthy all season and he wasnt the chain moving threat that Pitta always is for us. Torrey still has some things to work on...if he gets bigger and stronger this offseason and continues to develop his route running he could make a big leap in 2014.

Im not sure its fair to compare a TE to a WR considering Torrey has much more aggressive coverage to deal with than Pitta who goes up against LBs and small DBs...but Pitta can do it all- short catches, medium, deep, and is also our best redzone threat. 2012 was Pittas first breakout year as a starter for us too, Im pretty sure Ed Dickson was still a starter in 2011, and also stole a lot of snaps in 2012. Pitta will definitely put up big stats next year. Considering Garrett Graham had 500 yards and 5 TDs in only 13 games with Kubiak...Pitta will have the chance to become a pro bowler given how much Kubiak involves his TEs.

Bleh, we overpaid severely imo.  I mean I am glad he and Joe are together but for tat price letting him walk would have been better imo. The cp hell we are going to be in in about 3 years is unfathomable. Joe's Baloons in a couple years as does Pitta.....not good.

There is no way Joe will stay at 28 mil cap hit in 2015. this whole contract when it was made was designed to be re done later.

Pitta's balloons but there's not much guaranteed money tied to his contract.  It's essentially a 3 year deal, with the last 2 cheap enough that we can cut him if need be.

Great news. Having $25 million to play with in FA will be awesome. Hopefully we can make a play at Byrd after getting done with Monroe and Smith.

Just to clarify:

People know this is wrong, right? I keep hearing Suggs' voice over and people say this but this isn't American Express' tagline. This is VISA. People know this right?...right?

I don't know why this gained traction...

On Suggs home planet, AmEx is something completely different.

Seriously, yea. He kept combining the phrases. American Express I think is dont leave home without i. That's what I remember from the Tim Burton Batman movies when I was a kid.

It gained traction because it was on Sound FX.

Probably because it's kinda funny and amusing. I could be wrong though, right? Right?
