Ravens Re-Sign Dennis Pitta

Obviously the FO values him more than a lot of fans did. I trust them (the FO) over the fan base, personally. Ozzie knows what he is doing.

They should not have come out and said that they wanted Monroe. I mean jeez are we going to let him hit the market now with them being able to scoop him up or will we put the tag on him and let that negotiate a deal both sides can be happy with? Difficult decision lol

lol yeah smh like yesterday i was on youtube watching some dennis pitta highlights and you have falcon fans and patriot fans saying "welcome to our team" i'm like what? he not going to be a FA and FA hasn't even started. like just funny how people assume things when the team he's with is in contract talks you idiots.lol

Very generous for Pitta.

If Pitta can stay healthy, he could be in for a carreer year in Kubiak system. It's very TE friendly and Pitta is obviously a very good pass catcher.

I really hope he stays healthy.

Yeah I am just happy we got him signed and can tag Monroe. Now we can just point and laugh thanks to our FO getting the deals done :point:

Could you imagine if they did? We would be starting Tyrod at qb and Jimmy Smith would have been cut just to name a couple lol ;)

definitely stoked, he was a major missing piece last season, he would make the boldin loss not affect us anywhere near as much.

although ive thought from day 1 that monroe is a bigger priority. fingers crossed

I feel as though I remember one person, and only one person, who predicted a deal like this would happen even after his injury first occurred last offseason.  Good deal.

I'll eat crow, but at the same time, I'll point out that at the time, they were saying that there was no way he was going to get back on the field so I was making my claim based on that scenario.

You were right on. I definitely thought he would take a short deal at the time because we didnt know that he would come back last season. Pitta playing in those final 4 games probably earned him millions.

Now I don't have to change my avatar!

Hah I had to take a closer look a while back, at first glance it looked like he was on an exercise bike lol.

But seriously, this is great news...no on to Monroe!

This is a plus but if we lose Monroe to a bidding war with the dolphins or someone else we may still be in trouble. I honestly see us keeping oher (will be cheaper, durable and serviceable) now with the rumors of Monroe circling and then drafting a lineman early. Smith may come back but I also think so will McClain at a lower cap friendly contract.

Yessssssss. Big move by the Front Office. Now we can put this behind us and move on, we've got the White Tight End locked up!

I don't see how we don't franchise Monroe at this point, unless we sign him to a long term deal of course.  He's probably asking for $10M or so.  The tag is roughly $11.5M.  Let's just suck it up, take on the cost, and hammer down hard on getting a deal done.  I don't see any other way we can keep him off of the open market considering they keep saying that contract talks are progressing, but aren't anywhere near complete.  The Pitta deal certainly helps that scenario become more plausible.

I am wondering what our cap looks like now. Do we have room to franchise him and sign others (tenders free agents etc) We still have over holes to fill. Not just Monroe. I thought Monroe should have been priority. Pitta will look great in the new system but so would a lot of tes including rookies or average guys.

Not too big of a hit to the cap hopefully. He shouldn't be getting 6M this year anyways.

This is a good thing. Hopefully Monroe is next followed by Smith and we will be in business. It's a good thing to limit needs before the draft so we're not pressed into taking somebody because of a need.

Great work Oz!!!!!

It's kind of hard to say right now since we don't know what Pitta's actual cap hit is going to be.  Even then though, remember that the tag isn't permanent.  It's more of a precautionary move to buy us a little bit of extra time if we think we can work out a deal with him.  We aren't particularly active on the first day of FA anyways so we probably have a little bit more time than most teams.  If he hits the open market, I think it's been made obvious that some team is going to pony up and pay him big.  We can't compete if it gets to that point.  That's why I think this Pitta deal was so important to get done.  It opens up the options for Monroe.

No really? They don't listen to the fans? We need to call ESPN with this story!

My point is that a lot of fans were saying Pitta was not worth keeping at so high a price. He was over valuing himself. He needed to be allowed to test the market, etc. Since he was signed at a price higher than many of the "armchair GMs" quoted, I have to assume that the team values him more than many fans did.

Yeah I agree and I honestly think the contract he received is well deserved. If he put  up the numbers he did in Cam Cameron offense then Imagine what he can do with Gary Kubiak as offensive coordinator .
