Browns release MLB D'Qwell Jackson

47 posts in this topic

I'd take Jackson over Smith in all honesty. Jackson would complement Brown very well. Hell, if we could I would take both and switch to the 4-3 defense and plug Jackson in at MLB with Smith at SLB and Brown at WLB. That would be an elite LB corps in my opinion.

But this question is like asking me what do I like better: Reese's or Butterfingers. I like them both! So tough. I think I would lean Jackson depending on price, of course.

The correct answer is Reese's. Definitely Reese's.

Not even close. In 2013 Jackson had 141 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and an INT. That's not a down season.

That's not how PFF works, but their grading isn't the end-all either. Racking up tackles isn't necessarily a mark of good play though.

We get a comp pick if Smith goes elsewhere right? Couldn't it be a pretty decent one if he keeps playing at the level he is? If both fit the defense well, I'm gonna have to lean towards Jackson because of that.

Was about to say the same thing. I wouldn't be surprised if he were to come here and delivered some solid play, though.

Not sure how much he's looking for bit he is a decent 3-4 ILB. Better against the run than Daryl I'd say. At least he used to be. Wouldn't mind bringing him in, he knows the division very well and he's productive.

Jackson would be a great alternative if Smith does not stay. However, we still need to consider why Jackson was cut in the first place. It could be because the Browns are stupid, or there could be a more serious reason as to why they cut him. I would want to know why first.

They were trying to restructure the contract they just gave him a year or 2 ago that he definitely earned. He didn't like the numbers they were throwing at him, and said he wanted to go somewhere with some stability. That's been the consensus line of what happened. But yes, it doesn't answer the question of why he was cut regarding his play.

Doom was cut by the broncos for basically the same reason...money issues, it is a business.

The fact that he is already garnishing interest from several teams, I expect a multiyear deal worth a decent chunk of change. At least he may soften Daryl Smith's market and asking price though.

According to Rotoworld, Washington is interested in bringing him in. They need a ILB so it would certainly make sense. Hope he doesn't get too big of a deal though and drive up Daryl's asking price.

Don't think he'll sign with Washington. I read an article on PFT where he said he wants more stability and a better situation for him. Sounds like he wants to play with a contender and Washington is as unstable as Cleveland was. How many coaches have they had in so many years. Danny Boy may try to throw cash his way but it sounds he wants to play with a contender. Considering things, I'd say Denver is the team to watch and potentially could end signing him.

Eight teams have immediately reached out so far about D'Qwell Jackson, according to a source. Ravens weren't among the teams that did so

Not surprised, seems we are looking at bringing back Smith.

D'Qwell has visits lined up with Denver and Tennessee. Tennessee is interesting because that's where Ray Horton is now the DC. Though as I said, Denver should be a key player if he wants more stability and to play for a Super Bowl contender.
