A11 Football League Spring

5 posts in this topic

There is a new spring football league that will have two preview games in 2014 in Tampa Bay and Dallas.  If all goes well they will have a full season in 2015. They have a TV deal with ESPN for the preview and the 2015 season if all goes well.  They got the rights to use the old USFL city nicknames such as the Tampa Bay Bandits and New Jersey Generals for example.  This is better than the proposed new USFL which was going to be a D League for the NFL in cites where there is no baseball or NFL.  Problem with that league was the original founder embezzled money and they have moving the kickoff date for 5 years.  I give the A11 league which is in major cities more of a chance for survival.  If they have football people running it, I will watch it unlike the XFL which was a football league run by Pro Wrestling Experts.

Here is the league website:

The A11 offense makes football a completely different game. I've read a bit about it, but I've never seen it. This is exciting.

In the "Lets keep people to keep talking about us department" the A11 league is going make an offer to Tim Tebow to play either in Denver with the revived Gold or Tampa Bay Bandits.  I doubt he will take it, because he turned down the CFL, and an offer to play in Russia for $1 million a game.

About the two premier games, I thought it should be an A11 Select team against the Bandits at Raymond James Stadium and the Dallas Wranglers  in the Cotton Bowl.  Fans can identify with a local team and it would sell more tickets, than just two Ops teams going against each other.  Besides "Banditball" was one of the best marketing ideas of the old USFL.

One more thing about the TV deal with ESPN, the  A11 league bought the time, not ESPN paid them.  There was once a league called AAFL that would have played in College Stadiums and had a deal with the NFL network, it never got off the ground.  I once saw a women's pro basketball league on ESPN called the Liberty basketball Association had a inaugural game and was going to have a full season next year and that was last I heard of it, but they had too many stupid gimmicks like 9 foot high baskets, shorter sized court and ugh spandex uniforms.  The first preview game for the new football league is May 17th on ESPN2 at 9pm from Raymond James stadium.
