WR Deonte Thompson arrested

114 posts in this topic

This is bad news for him. There could potentially be an opening at KR/PR this year if Jacoby leaves, so if this causes the team to move on it would be unfortunate for him. I don't know that he will ever ba a quality WR, but his speed made him interesting for a returner position.

I thought Thompson was supposed to be diamond in the rough. If you can,t make an impact with our current receiver group i don,t know how you can be considered a potential playmaker.

I mean, it's only weed, but the law is the law. Idk if he'll get cut, but I doubt it. It's a lot of weed, but only weed.

It's not a lot of weed.. It's less than an ounce of weed... seriously!!! people... 20 grams..

not 20 ounces or 20 lbs.. I know it's the law...

You're missing the point.  No matter how much weed he or his friends had, he was still stupid enough to get arrested not long after a serious issue in Rice.  Combine that with the fact that he was no guarantee to make the roster in 2014 anyway, and this is a very dumb move on his part.

Doss is a better KR/PR option.

I really don't know what to make of this. All the opportunities open this year and the man may have just blew any chance he had. It's just a shame for him personally, but the decisions we all make fall on us. Just sad.

We will draft a wr and most likely bring one udfa in to replace him seeing that wr is the deepest position

I certainly hope so. They need to draft replacements for this guys anyway. Rice and Thompson. Rice may still be an elite back in spurts but he's not focused imho. Thompson has only shown a few flashes and would be on my roster bubble.

i just don't get it.  you have the opportunity finally that you've worked hard on your whole life...to play and earn the bucks in the NFL.... and you can't stop doing negative things?   I mean grow up.   Let real men play the game.    I have no problem with weed; I'm of the opinion of making it legal and taxing the HELL out of it.   But I have no sympathy for players who shoot themselves in the foot with this foolishness.

I think this one deserves the Duke Triple Facepalm

And the crazy eyed look from the female in the background as well.  lol!

LOL! that's what makes the shot!

I don't break it out unless there's something worthy of a facepalm AND that crazy look...two arrests in 7 days qualifies, I think

Not like he was going to contribute much anyway. I'd trust Doss over him in the return man department

Right, he can catch a charge but can't catch playing time on the field.  So disappointing.  He owes the fans a stellar year for this.

Seriously disappointing. These arrests are giving my team a black eye and I do not like it at all.

Agreed. I know we "cheer for the laundry", but I prefer my laundry clean and sweet-smelling.

Doss won't be a Raven next year, and it looks like DT may headed the same way.

time to legalize marijuana

Don't think pot however socially acceptable is anywhere good for an athlete.

He sure wasn't showing much on the field. (Making the throat slash gesture)

As for Ray Rice's problem, it appears that he at least delivered a good shot. If you're gonna get arrested and suspended at least get a good lick in.

While I don't want to believe that the team is losing focus and has leadership issues, but I would be lying if I told you this newest arrest doesn't concern me. It does and a whole lot too.

I personally think we just cut Deonte and limit our losses, and move on. I know Deonte is an exciting player who we fans had a lot of hope in. However, the fact that he was arrested with drug paraphernalia means he was caught red handed. We simply need to stem this rot soon and cut him...

I don't want to believe Ray Lewis' retirement has diluted the leadership so much that we have lost focus, but it makes me wonder after the recent spate of arrests...

Whoa! If a scale was found, that is really bad news. To make more money he just needed to focus more on the field because the opportunity was right in front of him.

How many ways can one spell "bad luck" and "stupid?"

We've had plenty of arrests over the years, all under "Ray's Watch". It is not a leadership issue, it's a stupidity issue. You can't lead stupid.

Unfortunately true. Those most in need of leadership lack the capabilities to accept it.

Rather than looking for a reason why these things happen, we should simply hold adults accountable for their actions.

Thompson will be suspended and Ravens will let his suspension ride out then make a decision same as they did with other suspended players ( regardless of type of suspension ). C.Thompson and A.Jackson were hung on too for long periods of time and decisions regarding status with team weren't made until after the suspensions since they didn't count against the roster numbers.

I don't think this is comparable to Ray Rice until more details about Rice and his Fiancée comes out, because if she doesn't give a statement then Rice situation almost goes away no matter how disturbing it maybe.

But Thompson's case is clear cut, getting caught with marijuana should instantly lead to drug test and suspension in accordance with rules.

Yes, there is a leadership void cupled to an individual assessment void chained to a failure to mitigate negative outcomes.
