Salary cap raise? Sources says YES!

Have to sign monroe with this. And id mack or Byrd hit the free agency market we have to make a serious run at them. Those are probably the worst positions in this draft class.

This doesn't help us as much as you'd think. While it is more room for us to use to lock up our guys, it's also more room for other teams to use to outbid us.

Either sign Monroe or tag him with the cap being this high. I will say however that Ozzie likes to be more conservative with his money. I would not expect huge splashes although we could get some nice deals later on. Maybe we can keep Graham now?

This is great.

I don't see the value of player contracts increasing either. I think the owners realize collectively the model won't work if they don't display some restraint in what they're willing to pay to get a player and will operate under that collective understanding.

Btw Ozzie hinted at us being players in FA now (not just bargain hunting the cap casualties). So I see us retaining Monroe, Pitta and Smith for sure. We'll make a bid for At least 2 of Jones, Jones and Graham. Then I see us trying to lure an Alex Mack, Jarius Byrd or a HaKeem Nicks as well.

I see 5-6 FA signings with 4 being our own guys and 1 or 2 other FA's.

With possibly close to $30mill in cap room when all is said and done, the rest of the league better watch out. Oz with that much wiggle room? Could be a very exciting scenario to watch unfold.

OMG can you image ware, suggs and Doom all on the same team with ngata in the middle holy hell its injuryland all QB will be hurt..lol

Would be pretty nicee...Also would be pretty nice if any of them wouldnt get injured and miss games. Out of 16 games, how many would you think they would all be healthy at the same time?  Given there previous problems

We better re-sign Monroe & Pitta with this and perhaps Arthur Jones but at least Daryl Smith. I'd like Mack but I feel that's a pipe-dream.

I believe a lot of agents are gonna be telling their clients to hit the free agent market cuz teams are gonna be overpaying with all this extra cap space. Best bet is to franchize Monroe and let the others test the FA market and see if we can match. I hope we can resign a couple  of ours prefereably Graham and Pitta and maybe a couple of our SpTeamers but I think somebodys gonna throw a 3 yr 15 mil contract to D Smith.

Get ready for inflated and backloaded contracts:

Adam Schefter@AdamSchefter 2m

Salary cap projected to rise to about $133 million this year, expected to break $140 million next year and $150 million by 2016, per source

All of a sudden, Flacco's contract is looking better and better.

In all honesty, this should allow us and other teams to keep a core group of players together longer instead of one or couple players being greedy for money and leaving a good place.

Also I think the NFL is raising it so high is to keep up with the ever increasing QB contracts.

Knowing that the cap gets that high going forward may enable us to keep more guys now pending their contract is backloaded. I'm not sure I would do it, but I think guys like Art, Jacoby, and Graham could re-enter the picture if we decide we want to keep them.

So basically when the Falcco contract gets too big, the cap will have increased enough for us to be able to handle it. Good news. Now instead of putting around 1/6 of our cap for Flacco, it is going to be around 1/7.5 which is a big difference. The math is not nearly exact but I don't feel like getting any deeper than that for now. Maybe if I get some time.

BAM!

NFL just sent the memo out to teams: 2014 cap is $133M on the dot

Don't forget the roll over money..........

With teams averaging $6.1 million of carryover cap space from last year, that gives teams an average of $139.1 million to spend in 2014.

Don't forget we have The Smiths due an extension. That'll eat into that cap.

I'd strongly consider keeping Arthur Jones because you could potentially eliminate Ngata with him in a couple years if Ngata continues to have these crazy performances. That is if the team feels like Jones will get better. We may consider him a better compensatory return than a re-sign.

That would work if the Eugene contract (assuming there is one) has a low first year cap hit. Free up a little more money for Art and Daryl. It'd be perfect.

I'd love for the cap to keep going up like that. I hate seeing great players on any team have to go elsewhere to get what they deserve. Not exactly sure what the long term effects of this steady increase would be but right now it sounds pretty good.

Now expect an even higher cap by 2016. The report is that in 2015 the cap could be as high as $145M and in 2016 it could spike to $160M.
