I Met Joe Flacco Today

20 posts in this topic

Yeah, I cant imagine his life.
A year ago he was just chillin' in Delaware. Now over 200 people stood in line to get his autograph. NFL Starting QB. Potential rookie of the year, looking at strong playoff possibilities. Some very fast huge changes for the guy. I would imagine it is all quite overwealming.

He seemed to be a bit uncomfortable with it all. Not quite sure what to make of it all I guess.
He signed an 8X10 for my seven year old daughter. He looked her in the eye and told her "Thank you" I thought that was pretty neat of him.

I told him Baltimore was proud to have him and then I wished him luck and shook his hand.
He has some monster meat hooks on him and quite the grip. My knuckles were a bit sore after that.

Is there a place that lists the Ravens players appearances? I always check on the main page of the site but not all appearances are always listed and I find out about things after they have already happened. Any info would be appreciated :)

I hope we keep Flacco for a long time and his name can be put right up there with Brooks, Johnny U, Jim Palmer, Boog, Ray Berry, Juan Dixon, Len Bias, Artie D., Cal Ripken, Mike Mussina, etc. as a Maryland Sports legend. The figure of Mussina in pinstripes has been carefully deleted from my memory banks and comprehension, so he's in there, yeah.

Hey now, nothing wrong with that! I'm a college kid and I've never had a car. Bikes can get you around just fine and seem to save quite a bit of money too. Funny how that works.

I liked that list until I got to Mussina. Additionally, you forgot Murray, Weaver, and Michael Phelps just off the top of my head. Phelps might not count.

Very cool. I too liked the fact that he thanked your daughter. I had a conversation with another fan while at work the other day and he sorta' mocked Joe's tendency to stay out of the spotlight when possible - even staying out from under the traffic lights while driving... I asked him this question: "Would you want your new 1st round, multi-million dollar QB to be a film-hound who gets in early, trains hard, stays late and stays out of trouble - who values his family's opinion over that of the nearest fashion critic... OR would you want your QB dating models and movie stars, grinning like an idiot when he makes mistakes, and running around town?"

Joe's got his head screwed-on straight. There's no doubt about that. I'm glad you and the kid(s) got to meet him.

Joe from what a buddy of mine who used to live in pitt told me , he was a known as more of a Geek then a Jock which is ok with me , he didnt party much and spent most of his time working out or doing homework. this shows 2 things , he knows hardwork pays off , it also means the Ravens got a diamond in the rough and that joe' is some one to let you kids look up too

yeah...sometimes party boys aren't going to help your team, especially if its a quarterback. he knows where his position is, and that's respectable of him.

How can Mussina not be maryland sports legend???? He was amazing for us. I agree with the guys you listed though.

I would love to meet Joe, he seems like a down to earth guy! As for the Mus comments, he can stay out of the conversation he is a Yankee in my mind.

Eh, to be a legend isn't just to perform well, it means having a connection with the city. Notice I didn't include Frank Robinson...
Yeah that is a good life lol but deleware always have QB's it seems like thats where Rich Gannon came from..
Delaware's always had a history of good QBs. But only Gannon and Flacco have been NFL-worthy.

There've been other QBs to get drafted in later rounds or signed out of Delaware to NFL teams, but they just never panned out. The only other QB from Delaware to have gained a measure of fame and success at the professional level is Matt Nagy in the AFL.
