Top 65 Quarterbacks

Though I think he's way better then the 27th place they put him at, I do agree with them on one assessment: accuracy. Joe hardly ever hits guys in stride; they always seem to have to wait that split second for the ball. Joes strength seems to be the intermediate sideline pass.On screen passes where he has to lead his receiver he is below average.

I wonder, how much of that is on him or the circumstances he plays under. I guess we figure that out next season under Kubiak.

Listen people Flacco was terrible last year.  That said, the article may sound ridiculous to some but Flacco is not a top 10 QB in the NFL.  He might not be in the top Fifteen.  The truth is what the truth is.  There are a lot of sophmores that posted better numbers in 2 years, than Flacco has ever posted for a single season.

Although he might not be in the top 15, its hard to say that 27 guys are better than him.

That's just overboard.

I do not disagree with what they said about Flacco though.

"Joe Flacco (6'6", 245 lbs, six seasons) doesn't throw with anticipation, and his ball placement is inconsistent. Without Anquan Boldin and Dennis Pitta to rely on in 2013, his poor accuracy was exposed on a more regular basis."

They also acknowledged and praised his arm Strength which I think is his best attribute besides staying healthy.

LMAO!   Looking at 2013 performance they should rate O line play and running game efficiency as well.

I see this thread heading down a familiar road..............   :melt:

And this is what's wrong with fans. Everything has to be fantasy stats. He still is the only ever quarterback to win a playoff game for five straight years to open his career (or make it to the playoffs) and had the most wins through the first five seasons. I don't know about you, but that sounds about good to me.

So, you take Matt Ryan or Peyton Manning with their great regular season numbers, but losing playoff records (Matt Ryan also has AWFUL playoff numbers), and I'll take Flacco who excels in the playoffs as of late.

@ BMoreBird22  So then by your criteria Russel Wilson deserves to be the number 2 or 3 qb on this list. He's one of the youngest SB winning QBs and has never missed the playoffs.  He's guided his team to 2 double digit win seasons and the best team in the NFC in a conference thats better than ours.  Also, Flacco didn't start putting up decent playoff numbers until his 6th playoff game.

I'm not a big Russell Wilson fan at all, and I would never say he's the second or third best quarterback in the NFL. I'm simply saying that fans want these huge stats and they need to understand that Flacco will not put them up in his current system. The offense doesn't have enough help. I'm more happy with the fact that he wins.

Now, if Flacco had the Falcon's wide receivers, the Broncos, or the Packers, I'd be really pissed if Flacco couldn't produce. Fact is, though, that he doesn't have that and people need to understand that.

By the way, if you're looking at my rankings for this season, given who he has where, I'd no doubt put Flacco in the top 15.

How could you put in him in the top 15 after the way he played last season?  He played like the 3rd worst qb in our division and might've been the 4th had Hoyer not been hurt.  He was awful.  I'm not saying as a career, but for that season, I don't think he deserves a top 15 spot.

Are people going to say Rice deserves to be ranked a top 10 RB?

Also because Russell Wilson's backup led the league in both preseason and regular season passer rating.

Some QBs have it easier.

My qualm with Wilson is he has better receivers, a MUCH better running game, and the league's best defense. He wasn't asked to win games. Look at the Super Bowl- the Seahawks dominated, but he has 18 pass attempts, if I remember correctly? I remember his rookie year they beat the Cardinals by like 50 and he has something like 15, 16 pass attempts. He had games this season where he would complete less than 10 passes and the Seahawks won by two scores. He has it very easy.

Who here was saying how good the run game and defense was when Joe was racking up wins?  It was Joe did his job, but now with Wilson it's different, now stats and attempts are taken into consideration?  LMAO.  What about when Joe went 4-10 for 34 yards and a pick in a playoff blowout vs the Patriots?  I don't see people taking credit away from him for that victory?

How? Because look at what he had to work with. The offensive line had a backup left guard, the worst center in the league, and a right tackle who was playing like the worst in the NFL.  He had a dysfunctional running game (I won't argue Ray Rice here, but you can message me if you want me to differentiate). He had an undrafted rookie free agent starting along with Torrey Smith. He also had a tight end that led the league in drops for a while and a 35 year old Dallas Clark.

He also had to deal with receivers making missed reads at times that read to interceptions, his receivers dropping passes or deflecting them into interceptions, and just overall bad play from the tight ends.

The fact that he overcame so much to lead the team to an 8-8 record is amazing to me, especially when you consider how the defense decided to check out in the 4th quarter.

I will ask again, is Flacco the only one who deals with injuries or bad weapons?  Is this taken into account when other qbs have down seasons?  There's getting it done and there's not getting it done.  I'm not putting the whole blame on him, but he was a still   a pretty big part of the problem.  I'll also say the defense and ST had more to do with the 8-8 record than he or the offense as a whole did.  If it wasn't for them the team could easily be picking in the top top.

Notice how I said his playoff stats started improving recently (2011) and he really started to take over then. I don't credit Flacco with being a great quarterback in his rookie season because he was much like Wilson, but I don't think anyone argued for Flacco being the third best quarterback after he won playoff games behind a great team in his sophomore season.

I think he started playing better in 10.  Good game against the Chiefs and everything that could go wrong against the Steelers seemed to happen, so I don't blame him for that loss.  Rice fumbled, bad snap then a dumb pick.  Boldin dropped a td and Housh dropped a perfect 4th down pass.  Anyway, did Joe win a SB his second season?  Lead his team to the #1 seed?  How about one of the highest passer ratings?  Isn't Wilson doing this all while playing in arguable the best defensive division in the league?

These aren't career rankings, they are what you did that season.  What Wilson did that season was good and a lot better than Joe.  Wilson rarely played with his whole o line, but no one is mentioning that.  He rarely played with his full arsenal of weapons and that's rarely brought up.  He still made it work and kept his turnovers down.

Don't marginalize a good argument with an over-generalization like that. Joe has won more games in his first 6 years than any other QB. That's a legitimate argument in his favor. Just like Wilson's win/loss record is a legitimate argument in his favor. No one said it was the be-all, end-all of our case for him.

Actually, I made a big post last year about wins being the best measurement of a QB, but that's CAREER wins. In a career, you'd expect the abilities of the surrounding cast to average out. Wilson's surrounding cast has been exceptional in his 2 years as a starter and Joe's has been IMO only above average.

This article is ripe with overreactions to the 2013 season alone and that's not fair to QBs whose supporting cast was unusually bad this particular year.

If you're talking this past season yeah, Wilson was better. But don't discount the effects that a last place running game and a porous O-line can have on QB performance.

Wilson also had the advantage of having a better statistical defense than Joe has ever had in his entire career, a defense that will go down as one of the best in NFL history.  Even Ben Roethlisberger's best Steeler defense gave up more points than the Seahawks defense this year.  Wilson was extremely efficient and poised for a second year quarterback, but he was asked to do very little in terms of passing the ball.

It's a YEARLY article.  You may not agree with the ranking/point system, but it's not about career, it's about what they did LAST YEAR.  Joe sucked last year.

Who here says, Suggs had a bad game cause the d-line didn't control there gaps or were responsible for their guy?  Who says a corner let their man get open cause the pass rush didn't get pressure?  Do people question long snaps and take into account a bad snap was the reason Koch misplaced a ball?  Or maybe when a a team pooch kicks and it's returned, maybe the kicker did their job, but the coverage was bad?

I understand the o-line problems and bad running game and still saw through that to see he still played bad.  Here's a question, how many good games did he have?

I feel like you're making my point by listing all of those things....

Is it possible to succeed when those around you don't? Sure, but it's hard. And to answer your question, I don't think Joe played well in any of his games this year. He had moments, but not entire games.

I might've made you're point, but you just made mine as well.  That is all.  Why is it hard for people to get that.

Joe is a veteran qb and more should be expected when comparing a guy in 6th year to a guy in his 2nd.  I would also say, Joe had a better offense in his SB year than Wilson did.

I think the misconception is that what a QB did last year is not what his passing stats were. It's what he did with the team and opportunities he had. When you say "he sucked last year", I say "he was put in position to suck". So I agree that he played poorly from an objective stance, but from an intrinsic stance he's the same QB as he was last year, which is a great QB.

If Usain Bolt breaks his leg, I wouldn't go "this guy's slow" just because he can't run fast at the moment, because I know as soon as his leg heals he'd be back to being fast again. Anyone with a broken leg would run slow, and anyone with this offense would play poorly. The point should be to account for variables like that. This is more of a "passing offense" ranking than a quarterback ranking.

I personally don't think he was the same qb from last year.  Maybe the protection, or lack of trust, but he was hesitant to throw the ball and off target in a lot of games.  There is such a thing as a down year.  Maybe lack of concentration, the SB getting their ego, whatever.

And yes, if he breaks his leg, returns to competition and there is a noticeable difference, he's slower.  That will be a down year for Bolt and if he doesn't race like a top competitor, he shouldn't be ranked there.  That is one of my problems with how the Pro Bowl is done and MVP.  Pro bowl goes off name and MVP usually goes off stats, not actual value to said team.

Anyway, the o line was poor, Rice sucked last year too, though I'd have to say worse than Flaccos level.  Some guys have down years.  Rivers to me, should've been in MVP talks with how he played this year and his cast.  Honestly, it is too hard for one person to watch and then remember the tape of every player, so of course there will be some they gloss over and miss little details.
