TE Jimmy Graham

9 posts in this topic

The discussions around if Jimmy Graham is a TE or WR are interesting. I think that he as played a similar role for the Saints that Boldin  did for us. Personally I am hoping there is another "fax mistake" that will make him a free agent. He would be an excellent addition for us. He is young but a proven performer. I do not think that the Saints are going to want to take all of this to arbitration. Because if they loose, they will be stuck paying him like a top WR. The way the CBA is written up that is what would probably happen. So, I am interested to see how this plays out. What do you think? Is he a TE or a TE hybrid or a WR? Do you think the Saints will try to franchise him? Could he end up hitting the open market? Could we get him if he did?

No chance at all that we get him. Wayyyy too expensive. We will have a tough time already of signing Pitta, who would only cost a fraction of what Graham will cost. I see this playing out pretty similar to how the Brees fiasco went down with New Orleans.

He's getting at least $12 million per year on the open market.  It's not even a debate, he's far and away the best TE in the game.  There's not a chance we could sign him.

Peter King is actually reporting that it's unlikely he can be franchised as a WR.

I disagree that he's far and away the best TE in the game. A healthy Gronk is the superior TE IMO. He's a far greater blocker and similar caliber receiver.

That's a pretty big qualifier. A healthy Bo Jackson's arguably the GOAT, but because his career got shortened all we can do is speculate on what might have been. I think the player's injury history/probability is a huge part of how good they are (and it's one of Joe's most underrated attributes). I'd rather take Graham for a full 16-game season.

It's kind of a moot point though. Whether he's the best or second-best, I can guarantee we're not getting him. Even if he somehow doesn't re-sign with the Saints, someone will be prepared to pay more for him than we are - GUARANTEE it.

He's a great receiver and total mismatch against defenders, but if he hit the market I wouldn't even want him. He'll cost way too much and I have a feeling he'll start declining soon. He's soft as baby poop and wouldn't be worth a long term investment of 12+ a year. I know I'm in the minority but that's my opinion.

Also agree with Hurricane, a heathy Gronk is superior.

Durability is the great equalizer. I'd take Graham over Gronk any day of the week.

I wonder if the Seahawks could afford him? Lol
