Report: LT Eugene Monroe one of Ravens' priorities

1,151 posts in this topic

Eugene Monroe not taking a hometown discount with the Ravens...looking to get paid $9M-$10M per year.

UH-OH!!!!

He was only with us for 1 year (not even), so I don't blame him.  However he's not getting that kind of money from anyone else except for maybe the Redskins or Cowboys.

The fact of the matter is that if he hits the Free agent market...he will be gone in a heartbeat. And if that were the case Ozzie better hop on Branden Albert.

Where'd you see that?

Free agent LT Eugene Monroe said he's not open to giving the Ravens any sort of hometown discount.

"You have to get the absolute best because you put forth your best effort all the time, every single day in this league," Monroe said. "So there are definitely no discounts, and you have to have you and your family's best interests at heart in terms of negotiating these deals." Monroe, 27 in April, is in the prime of his career and will be shooting for a big payday coming off his rookie deal. Monroe has proven durable and should find at or above $10 million annually.

That may be true, but if the Ravens are shelling out $7 million a a year and someone else offers $7.5 million a year, he might stay with us.

I'd hardly count Rotoworld as an informative source on what players are worth, but that doesn't seem unrealistic.

I think 7-8M is a more accurate estimate for what he will get. He is not on the level of Ryan Clady or Joe Thomas that got 10M+ year.

There's only 5 tackles in the NFL that make 10 a year.

I just think "At or above" is a lot.

I'd say 8-10 is a good high range for Monroe.  Depending on what happens with Albert and VelDheer

I agree with you and hope that $7.5-8  is enough to keep him here...but thats not to say a desperate team wouldnt give him 9-10.

The only thing that worries me is that miami who has a ton of cap space just throws more money upfront than we can and he leaves.  Florida also has no state tax.  If Joe Staley and Russell Okung got a shade over 8 that should be fine.

I feel like its all about the market though...desperate teams will do what they do best and spend. I dont see him getting more than a 6 year $54M contract though. I think he might stay in Baltimore for $48M though

Miami is definitely a concern since they're for sure going to miss out on the top three draftable tackles.  A lot of the other teams though, like St. Louis, I'm not as worried about, because they'll have a shot at one of those 3.

Green bay actually has a lot of cap right now too.  I really hope we can keep him, dude's a pro.

They do, but according to Rappaport they seem to be focused on rebuilding that defense - I'm just really of the mindset that the front office already had a plan in mind when they traded for him how much he was going to cost, and I think Monroe's deal gets done quickly.  I really think he stays, but the longer he takes the more likely it is other players will get signed away.

The combine starts tomorrow and a lot of wheeling and dealing can get done there. Hope he works out for us, LT. is a must  the money figures in this thread sound good (8mil.or so) but the wild cards are the other teams with more cap space. I don't think he owes us a "hometown" discount, he hasn't been here long enough, but Eugene, give us a fair shot.

If the FO had a number in mind when they brought him in, I'm not sure how that will have changed based on his play. He has proven to be solid, but didn't perform at a superstar level. Now granted the general dysfunction on the O line likely had something to do with his level of play, but still I just don't know how his performance has priced him into the top tier of LTs.

Rumor has it that they aren't going to tag him - and if that's the case, that usually means that the cap cost is much higher than we're willing to pay in a set contract. So with the tag cost on an O lineman being $11M I can't magine our FO giving him $10M per year on a long term contract.

Monroe is worth every penny. He's GOOD, and for once in our lives we have a potential franchise LT on our hands.....

JO says hello, but I get your point.

Just saw on nfl.com that the Dolphins are very interested in Monroe. That does not bode well for the Ravens sadly, as I can't see us getting into a bidding war with them.

The only option right now may be to hammer down hard on a Pitta deal and tag Monroe.  Monroe's price is admittedly higher than I thought it would be.
