Report: LT Eugene Monroe one of Ravens' priorities

GMs/agents treating tackle market like it's down to Saffold, with Collins (TB), Veldheer (AZ) Monroe (BAL) deals viewed as basically done..

Saffold will probably go right to Oakland too or atleast get pickedup quick by someone. Leaving Michael Oher as the top OT available...haaaa

That's a scary thought.

Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet 3 hrs

Interesting subplot: While #Ravens wait for LT Eugene Monroe to take their deal, they plot a backup plan. It’s making a play for Alex Mack. WOW!!

How? isn't his price at least 10 mil? i'm confused.

Would assume that's two fold... But mainly showing Monroe's agent that they would go elsewhere with money if need be

This is from NFL.com

The transition tag allows any team to negotiate with the top center on the market (once free agency opens Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET), but it also allows the Cleveland Browns an opportunity to match the offer.

It has been widely speculated that the Browns will go out of their way to hang onto their Pro Bowl center, who hasn't missed a snap in five years.

Mack's agent, Marvin Demoff, told TheMMQB.com's Peter King that he believes he could craft a contract that would be tough for the Browns to match.

"I'm confident we can come up with a structure that would have a reasonable likelihood to not be matched by the Browns -- and would be in full compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement," Demoff said Monday night.

------

So I think it doesn't necessarily have to be the price of the tag. We could make any offer and the Browns would have to match it,

Makes more sense now. Thanks

Pick you poison raven fans would you rather have a Elite center or the 8 or 9 best LT? screw i want Alex Mack! make it happen ozzie.

You don't need a elite center to get your offensive line going and it's not  hard to find a solid center(look at The Broncos last year) but it's definitely hard to find a solid left tackle.

Does anyone think there is a legitimate chance of getting both of them? The cap looks like it's going up even more and some of the bigger contracts like Ngata will not be there in later years. I think it's worth it, because being a winning team starts with the O-Line. Tough choices would have to be made, but if we only signed Pitta, Monroe and Mack and let the other bigger names walk, I can't say I'd be mad.

It could also be a ploy where we negotiate a massive contract that Cleveland matches to make sure a lot of their cap space is occupied.

That's dangerous... don't want to be holding the bag when that clock goes off.

You gotta risk it to get the biscuit.

Lol

I think it's a ploy as well but Mack would be an excellent fallback option. It'd ensure that we'd never have to see Gino for awhile. Yikes.

I would be excited to get Mack and would be more excited to have the best Center in the league over Monroe. Now obviously that leaves LT open but maybe Ozzie has a draft plan and we find our new LT for the next 10 years or so.
