Report: LT Eugene Monroe one of Ravens' priorities

1,151 posts in this topic

I saw another report that if the Ravens do sign Monroe, they'd like to get it done in the next 24 hours or so in case they can't agree and they have to move on to other FA options.

What other options would they have for tackles in free agency

It sounds like they'd make a last minute push for one of the other top 4 LT's.

If Veldheer really would sign for as cheap as has been rumored, I'd push for him. Arizona couldn't outbid the Ravens

Yeah I'd guess that if it came to that, we'd make a serious play for Veldheer or Collins.  Judging by how things are going, I'd expect Monroe back now, but it sounds like they have a plan B.  I don't know if they'll get to plan B though because Schefter made it sound like it's close.

yeah he did which we have 3 oline positions done with of course with a healthy KO at either Guard or Tackle its a alot easier now if we are close to signing monroe. then it would leave center and or Guard/RT left to fill.

I'm not able to find any reference where Schefter indicated anything about how close we are to closing a deal with Monroe. Nothing I could see on his twitter feed.

He was on NFL Insiders a bit ago.  I wouldn't say close.  Maybe that was the wrong choice.  He basically said that Monroe would be back to the Ravens at $8.5-9M per year with how the market is playing out.

It all sort of feels like all of the other NFL insiders are just regurgitating Wilson's article in the Sun from yesterday.

This is quite a game of musical chairs both sides seem to be engaged in. I would hope that both sides would make a final compromise and land a deal before the 4PM deadline tomorrow.

I guess its a down market this year.

Hey would you look at that. 2 Idiot GMs(Ireland/Lombardi) get fired and the rest of the league wakes up back to reality!

This Monroe ordeal has been such a roller coaster. Relieved to hear we're probably going to retain him. In the past few days I've gone from almost losing hope in the 2014 season to now being very optimistic.

I hear ya there. It's amazing how even the off-season keeps us on edge. We're still not out of the forest.

Do you really think we're gonna let our first decent LT in 5 years walk away after all those hits Joe took last year? No way. Not without a great contingency plan. Monroe will almost definitely be a Raven, and if by chance he isn't, the FO will put a premium on a quality replacement. Don't worry about this position.

Unless Ozzie gets a safety in FA, we might get stuck with Clinton-Dix. Nothing like a Bama Bust, eh?

I lol'd. Would be extremely Disappointed if we took him.

I still wonder if Ozzie is going to inquire about Byrd. We got beat for big plays quite a bit last year. Would be awesome if Elam can do more of what he did in college while having Byrd in the center field.

Byrd seems unrealistic, still.

I'll be happy with 8.5M. It seems like GM's are getting a little smarter these days.

I wouldn't be so sure.

Probably. I like to dream though so let me. =/

i like Mitchell out of Carolina.  Seems splashy but not unrealistic.  still tough to see it happen.

"$20M over the cap?  Let's give our kicker a nice sized, long term contract!"

"Signing the kicker was a bad idea? No problem.  We'll just make Tony Romo count $27.7M against the cap next year!"

Jerry Jones can do whatever he wants with is team because as long as he is in charge, it's one less team to worry about.

Thanks God we're not Cowboys' Fans.

I don't know how the Cowboys still the number one team in the USA on value and fan-base.

You guys know at this rate, Jerry Jones won't have enough cap space to lock up his next wave of talent (Dez Bryant, Tyron Smith, Demarco Murray).

Hope no one compare Mike Wallace contract to what Torrey Smith gets next year.

Anything Jeff Ireland/Mike Lombardi/Jerruh gives out aren't exactly the right measuring stick of how players should get paid.
